it's spelled c-o-u-n-s-e-l-l

any chance a sticky topic could be placed on the major league page reminding forum members how his name is spelled?

i feel that anyone that types his name any other way affects the integrity of brewerfan.net.

(of course, posts that use the correct sequence of letters from his name to create beings such as "counsanino" or "graffsell" are appropriately funny. "councanino" and "graffcill" are just tragic.

Wouldn't the profanity filter simply replace "Councel" or other misspelling with "@!$##"? (not that this wouldn't have some utility on, say, a 4 strikeout day for Craig)

Or can it be customized to serve as an automatic spell check/corrector for designated words? Because that would be cool.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I must say, that would certainly provide some degree of amusement [and confusion].

but hardly fair to those using "council" and "counsel" as properly intended.

I know this is unpopular and no one else will agree, but what does it matter. I understand to a point if someone spells a guys name wrong all the time, such as the first name of the closer once removed, or the current Seattle first baseman, or so on and so forth... But what does it matter if the spelling on here sucks.

For example, if I were to say, (I would never suggest this)

We should trade Dave Buhs, and Yovani Galardo to the Devil Rays for Carl Crawfrd.

These are just typos, this is a message board, it is not English at UW, spelling is not that important. Again, I understand it when someone spells a players name wrong all the time, but it really "ticks" me off whenever a poster make a point, spells the name wrong, and then the first 5 comments are:

Do you mean Richie Weeks?

Or was it Sexton?

Or were you talking about...

It is getting old, annoying, and i think it is immature.

You could probably find 10-15 things written on this worthless post that are spelled wrong, or the verb tense doesn't agree, or the punctuation is wrong, or perhaps the sentence structure is lacking.

IT is a message board.

it's about maintaining the integrity of the brewerfan.net website. i thought this site prided itself on being one of the better fan sites for mlb teams.

when the majority of its members come across as insightful and intelligent, it can only boost the credibility (and viewership) of this site.

the more credible this site, the more we can all benefit (for example, revenue opportunities that may arise that allow for amazing improvements for the brewerfan.net faithful).

being serious for a moment,

I actually take great pride in spelling things correctly. Heck, many times, I go grab a dictionary before typing something out (if I need it). I'm glad that all my English, spelling, and grammar classes have "paid off" in my career.

Maybe it's just the teacher in me, but I can't allow myself to mis-spell things, if I can help it.

(for the record, I am not trying to be "elitist" or anything like that.)

(also for the record, I counted how many times I had to use the backspace key in this post to correct something that my hands didn't do correctly the first time--and I don't hunt and peck, either. I had to go back and fix a typo 24 times due to my brain thinking faster than my hands can type.)

Wake up old school. Firefox has built-in spellchecker. It works just like it would in MS word for all of your posts, your email, pretty much anything you type online.

Plus spellcheck won't catch "Sexton".

Honestly, if someone mis-spells a couple times, I don't care. Mis-spellings like Grafanino or Vilanueva don't bother me. Getting a guy's name completely wrong, such as Richie Weeks or Greg Gross is unacceptable.

There have been times where I have used an abbreviation (did I spell that word correctly?) instead of typing out the entire name just so I won't get chastized. I don't think people should be ripped on for missing a letter in a word, or putting the wrong letter in (like putting an i when you should have put an e for a sound in a word).

if he produces, I'll learn how to spell his name correctly.

i have no problem spelling Hank Aaron's name. Bonds is easy too! Celmens. Jeter. Poolholes see - no problem.

maybe Cowncel should legally change the spelling of his name like Marilyn Monroe and Anna Nicole did. .

looking back at my family tree, my last name used to be spelled baegley, then bagley, then biglo, then biglow,

then bigelow. I guess they felt they could sell more tea with that last spelling.

I'm not one to complain. if they hadn't changed my family name from baegley to bigelow, I could be known as Bag Reed instead of Big Reed. and we wouldn't want that would we? at least, I wouldn't want that.
