1B Yeison Perez reached base 3 times in 4 innings for DSL-2. Unfortunately, that was via a walk and two hit-by-pitches, so he exited the game. Ugh. Rough day!

Now that we have the scoreboard integration, it sure would be a luxury to have video feeds of these DSL contests ?

The DSL Brewers Uno and the Phillies White (29-18 record) are in a 2-2 nailbiter in the seventh frame. Brewers Uno are up to bat - the Phillies just tied it and it would appear this is a 7-inning affair today. Let's hope they can pull it out. It's very nice to see OF Luis Lara with a 1-for-1 day and 2 BB.

Then let us take a moment to honor the man, the myth, and the 2022 DSL Legend!

I'm just going to say with his frame he has has clearly added some muscle mass and some power...I'm not tapering my enthusiasm. That is a beautiful easeful power stroke:

For anyone interested here's the current DSL Catching Lines:

DSL Brewers 2:

Eric Martinez -  R/R  6'0" / 175 / 18 yo - 88 AB / 0.295 BA / 0.845 OPS / 2 HR / 13 RBI / 17 R / 7 2B / 1 3B/ 8 BB / 24 K / 53 SB / 10 CS

Brayan Oropeza - R/R 6'1" / 175 / 18 yo - 69 AB / 0.217 BA / 0.745 OPS / 3 HR / 12 RBI / 12 R / 2 2B / 13 BB / 17 K / 21 SB / 8 CS

Edwin Tamoy - R/R 6'0" 170 / 17 yo - 38 AB / 0.211 BA / 0.541 OPS / 1 HR / 2 RBI / 6 R / 1 2B / 2 BB / 9 K / 20 SB / CS 14

Interesting NoteWhereas Martinez is getting the majority of PT, it is worth noting the Oropeza BB:K ratio just as it is noting Tamoy has thrown out 14 of 34 SB attempts. That is a significant number in both cases.

DSL Brewers 1:

Ludwin Tejada - L/R (B/T) 5'10" / 175 / 17 yo - 49 AB / 0.306 / 0.771 OPS / 0 HR / 6 RBI / 7 R / 1 2B / 1 3B / 7 K / 8 BB / 22 SB / 7 CS

Roman La Torre - L/R 5'10" / 160 / 17 yo - 58 AB / 0.224 / 0.628 OPS / 0 HR / 7 RBI / 7 R / 5 2B / 7 BB / 9 K / 32 SB / 7 CS

Edgardo Ordonez - L/R 5'11" / 155 / 18 yo - 82 AB / 0.293 / 0.825 OPS / 2 HR / 13 RBI / 15 R / 4 2B / 16 BB / 26 K / 29 SB / 17 CS

Interesting Note: ALL lefty bats is something we mentioned earlier in the DSL season. Ordonez is getting the majority of the first team innings here and has solid numbers across the board. But, the K:BB ratios of the younger Tejada and La Torre are quite interesting. The lone righty bat is on the 60-Day IL in one 17-year-old, Luis Garcia fwiw.

The High-A Timber Rattlers lost a close series opener at home against South Bend, but has 22-year old RHP Justin Jarvis (3.96 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 10.4 K/9 in 104 2/3 innings) on the hill tonight to even things up. 1B/3B Zavier Warren comes in with a 10-game hitting streak and 17-game on-base streak:

AA Biloxi has RHP TJ Shook (3.69 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 10.1 K/9 in 92 2/3 High-A/AA innings) starting tonight, as the team needs to avenge last night's loss to tie up their series 1-1 at home against Rocket City. 25-year old SS Andruw Monasterio remains "The Man" in this Shucker offense (1.000 OPS in 150 AA plate appearances):

They are definitely getting more production than you would expect from the position. I am usually cautious with guys repeating the DSL like a few of them are, but catchers just seem to develop later anyway. That is why I think there is a case to be made for Quero being a top 3 prospect in the system. It is rare you get a guy that young who has shown a level of competence with that bat in full season ball and who no one seems to doubt will stick behind the plate.

The case can most certainly be made. The bat is the bonus here - we'll have to see how he does in his step-up in competition. The defense and the ability to work with his pitchers is a given - it's truly elite. He has an absolute cannon for an arm and he's extremely quick laterally and off his feet. In the post-game pod with Joe Ayrault last night he was quite clear: he hadn't seen a catching propsect like Quero is quite some time and he referred to him as one of the organization's top dogs.

The AAA Sounds and Gwinnett Stripers make a 2nd attempt to start their series in Nashville, after last night's rainout. RHP Tyler Herb (3.74 season ERA in AA/AAA) gets the start and SS Brice Turang brings his 16-game hitting streak into the contest:

The Mudcats have won 3 games in a row and have RHP Stiven Cruz (4.87 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 11.2 K/9 in 68 1/3 innings) on the mound to try to extend their series lead to 2-0 in Delmarva. In some organizational musical chairs, 3B Branlyn Jaraba and C Alex Hall make their first starts this year in Low-A:

Stiven Cruz has 4 Ks, 1 walk, no runs or hits allowed through 3 innings. A Jace Avina single and Jesus Chirinos RBI double have the Mudcats up 1-0.

Feeling bad for 2B Zach Raabe (3rd straight game out of the Carolina lineup) and wishing the team would swap the levels of him and 3B Ben Metzinger.

Two JGJ errors later (dropped fly ball & booted single into triple) and its tied 2-2 bottom three.

Impressed by Jarvis so far though. Generates a lot of velo for a skinny dude.

1B/DH Jesus Chirinos has absolutely come on since his birthday home run party. He's been on a tear of late and it's fantastic to see for the big fella! 2 Doubles today and he just knocked in Robert Moore and sent Eric Brown Jr. to 3rd.

AND, welp. Sal Frelick says: "Hey, I know we were postponed yesterday but sheesh I'm pretty dang good!" He leads off the game for the Sounds with a triple. Man that young man has wheels. Here's that patented Frelick hip flip he's just fine-tuned in 2022. Man, he hits a sweet line drive:

LOL. And, welp, Brice Turang says: "Ummmm, yeah, hold the phone!" Smacks his 8th homer of the year and just like that is 2-1 Sounds. Yeah baby! This is FUN.

And, here's the highlight for y'all. Hitting streak extended to 17 games (!!). On base streak to 24 (!!). And, man, what a wonderfully easy swing on a sweeping lefty off-speed pitch:

Rain delay in Delmarva? Oh, c’mon. They just want Stiven Cruz (1 hit allowed thru 4 scoreless innings) to exit the 4-0 game going into the bottom of the 5th inning.

I wonder what the difference has been for Turang? His walk rate skyrocketed in July. Maybe he's not swinging out of the zone as much?

June he was pressing and simply had a rough month. July and into August is more like April and May where he looked so much improved at the plate. He's at his best with that smooth, calm, contact swing. The results speak for themselves.

Rattler OF Arbert Cipion was hit-by-pitch in the 3rd inning and exited the game the next inning. Hopefully he’ll bounce back quickly, especially given how many outfielders have been injured recently (Wiemer, Campbell, Bello, Mendez).

Cipion actually scored on a wild pitch and then Zavier Warren knocked in another run. 4-2 Timber Rattlers in the 4th inning.
