Why aren't we allowed to talk about Cain and his comments?

Is there a list of allowed topics? Why was the thread closed?

I'm guessing it's because it was the type of ongoing "never dead" thread that Brock hates. Cain's comments are certainly a much different topic than him being DFA'd for Jonathan Davis months ago.

I was told it was because it was political.

It doesn't look like Brock closed it and in my opinion he would encourage that kind of discussion versus some long time moderators here. Create a new thread that is solely about Cain's recent comments IMHO.

I believe it started going towards a discussion of validity of taking off because of COVID.  That is a slippery slope.  That could have gotten out of hand very quickly.

Bottom line:

  • Cain took a year off (who cares why)
  • Cain wasn't performing well this year
  • Cain gets DFA'd.
  • Cain is still getting paid

opening a new thread is much preferred to bringing up months old threads.

that being said, I think (I did not close the thread) there was a lot of points being multi repeated by the same posters trying to shout others down, a fair amount of "I can't believe you people don't agree with my pov" stuff.

Let's debate and disagree, even contentious stuff, without being antagonistic towards other opinions.

that thread was also moving into Covid political talk because people can't help themselves.

I closed the thread and there were two main reasons:

1) Brock has requested that we start new threads instead of resurrect old ones.

2) I didn't see anything "new" for the last page or two and everyone was rehashing the two year old arguments about why Cain didn't play in 2020.

I did miss the post about Cains recent comments, but then again... no one was talking about it anymore.

Please feel free to open a new topic about Cains's comments.

His comments about the Brewers seem pretty directly related to being DFA...and cutting off the discussion because it kinda vaguely goes sorta near politics, which...I don't think it actually did, is more a slippery slope than anything else.

Can't talk about Cain opting out of 2020 without acknowledging COVID exists and that opinions differed around it. Unless stuff was deleted from the thread.... it wasn't a political conversation.

And cheezewiz if you want to lock a thread for being off topic maybe read it next time since his comments were directly related to being released and we were discussing them. Nice work chilling the conversation though.

I think I'll just peace out and let you run the site how you want, you just don't get my money to do it with anymore.

Holy overreaction Batman!

This place has always had a zero tolerance for anything that was slightly political - even when Brian was running it. Closing that thread had nothing to do with chilling conversation and, as was already stated, somebody is more than welcome to open a new thread about it.

Taking your ball and going home because you didn’t like the moderation (that has been essentially the same as forever) seems a little unnecessary.

@timpep I don't get any of your money either way.  I moderate as a volunteer.

I did read back 2 pages of history and it was all about Cain's family and the 2020 decision to sit out. Unfortunately, the one new tidbit was 3+pages back.  But that is exactly why we ask people to start new threads.  If you miss the one post that triggers the new discussion, it is hard to find it again.

For the record, I just read through the thread and wholly endorse the closing of it for all the reasons listed here.

We don't need to re-litigate Cain's 2020 Covid decision in 2022 after he's off the roster and no longer even a part of the team.

Again, this is why mile-long threads are awful. Cain's recent comments absolutely warrant a discussion and I'd be interested in reading that discussion. But that conversation thread was lost almost instantly in the sea of Covid-related posts.

But what I'm not interested in reading - nor are the moderators, I suspect - is yet another rehashing of old conversations that are wildly out of date about an event that, at its best times, is borderline against site policy.

Please, start a new thread. Talk about Cain's comments about his release and 2022 experience all you want... but for the love of god, let's keep 2020 in the rearview mirror. I'm certainly not the only person who is perfectly content to forget that entire year even existed.
