Where does Sal Frelick fit?

Christian Yelich isn’t productive. Would you call a business with $1mil profits and $2mil expenses…productive. No. He is basically a failed product and we hope he doesn’t drag down the rest of the team that is actually productive.

Yes, Yelich isn’t a business…but spending more than you are getting back is never good. If the values are at least close or it is the end of a contract where you got that value in prior years, meh whatever. However, Yelich is so far below his pay and right from the get go. It is a disaster, no need to sugarcoat it. Now we just hope we don’t bleed too much from it. Hope he doesn’t turn into Vernon Wells.

Yelich is kind of irrelevant in relation to these young OFers though. He can always shift to first base or DH. He would be a bit more of an annoying pest if Keaton Hiura had panned out and needed to fill the DH spot. Then it would be first or bust for Yelich. That isn’t the case though.

League average is productive, and that's roughly what he's been.    And to the business analogy, in this case the $2mil expenses is still there if you get rid of the $1mil in revenue. And generally speaking, on average the replacement you'd be getting for him would provide less than $1 mil in revenue.  And you'd be increasing the expenses because the replacement needs to also be paid at least league min.

Essentially unless he tails all the way off to like .710 or lower for like 1.5 seasons you might as well keep him.

The Brewers would be the business, like a grocery store.

Yelich is the $4 roasted and ready to eat chicken the grocery store takes a loss on, but knows they make other sales on it by getting people in the door for it.

Welcome to the board!

Yelich is a sunk cost. I’m not saying to get rid of him. Hopefully he becomes incredibly consistent and can be a decent DH for years to come.

That being said, I don’t think anyone really comes in the door for Yelich at this point. He is just a guy.

Except I thoroughly enjoy those chickens and make the trip to the store just for them.

I have not enjoyed Yelich for a couple years and he definitely isn't the reason I am watching the games.
