The AAA Sounds have won two in a row at home over Omaha and go for a third with RHP Janson Junk (0.57 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, 6.9 K/9 in 15.2 AAA IP) on the mound tonight. LF Keston Hiura (.319 AVG, 1.111 OPS in 80 PAs) remains the big offensive story, homering in his last 2 games to give him 9 already this month.

Any word on if Taylor is still with the team or is he done with rehab already? If healthy certainly could use him against the LHP heavy Angels.

I've not seen any update on Taylor. About a week ago, Counsell had said something about how the rehab work "won't be 2 days", meaning they intend to take their time with Taylor since it's basically his spring training ramp up period.

That said, I'm sure it's tempting to bring in Taylor for the 3 consecutive Angel left-handed starters. Taylor played 7 innings in right field on Tuesday, 9 innings in center field yesterday.

AA Biloxi looks for a win to take a 2-1 series lead at home over Mississippi. RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez (2.25 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 12.0 K/9 in 12 IP) makes his 4th start of 2023 tonight. 19-year old CF Jackson Chourio (.254 AVG, .740 OPS in 76 PAs) has a 5-game hitting streak.

High-A Wisconsin is in a rut, losing 5 of their last 6 games. They look to 21-year old RHP Stiven Cruz (4.15 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 8.3 K/9 in 13 IP) to turn the tide against Beloit this evening. I'd bet 2B Robert Moore snaps his current 0-for-19 skid tonight.

The Low-A Mudcats are battling Kannapolis and the weather this evening, aiming to grab a 2-1 lead in their home series. 23-year old LHP Nate Peterson makes his 2nd start of the year, going 4 scoreless innings (2 hits, 0 walks, 7 Ks) last time out. C Matt Wood (.293 AVG, .905 OPS in 52 PAs) has an 11-game on-base streak. We've not seen any word to explain 1B/C Tayden Hall's absence (last played 6 days ago).

Best of luck to all our affiliates tonight! I will be doing my annual NFL Draft cook-off man cave extravaganza. Here's hoping we get some victories and some fabulous performances.

Rodriguez has battled his command just a little bit in the early going, but he's been able to put guys away when he needs to. Looking nasty for the most part, especially the changeup. 4 K's through 2 scoreless innings.

What’s the story on Guilarte? Should I be excited? Putting up some nice numbers in the lead off spot for Carolina. Just 19 years old.

MLB has him at #16 on their Brewers list with this scouting report…

Jackson Chourio is likely going to be the headliner of the Brewers’ Jan. 15, 2021, international signing class for years to come, but Guilarte, who signed for $1 million out of Venezuela, is making a name for himself too. He moved stateside to the Arizona Complex League in 2022 with promising results – a .306/.403/.371 line and eight steals in 36 games against competition roughly two years older than him on average.

Brewers officials quickly started paying more and more attention to Guilarte the longer he performed in the domestic complex circuit. He demonstrated a strong knowledge of the strike zone by walking in 13.2 percent of his ACL plate appearances, and he tended to make contact on pitches that did land in the zone. That contact was mostly on the ground, however; his 64.1 percent ground-ball rate was highest among all Brewers Minor League qualifiers. There is some physical projection remaining in his 6-foot, 160-pound frame, but it may take more than just added strength to give him anything close to average power.

That said, Guilarte has a promising floor because of his overall athleticism. He’s a plus runner already, and his range, defensive actions and significant arm strengths should keep him at the six the higher he climbs. Those skills could also translate well at second and third base, where he got some looks in 2022. He’ll be an asset on the dirt no matter what, and any more impact out of the bat would send him flying up the Brewers' prospect ranks in his first full season.

Tyler Black brought the winning Braves run home with another throwing error from the hot corner. Lots of errors on routine plays early in this new experiment.

T-Rats lose again and rehabbing Gus Varland takes the loss giving up 3 runs in 1/3 IP at High-A Wisconsins. Yikes. 3 Hits and a walk.

Just lacks experience over there as well. He should have just held onto the ball on that play. The throw wasn't going to beat the runner.

So Clayton Andrews pitched tonight. He also pitched last night. He's the first Sounds pitcher to pitch on back to back days this season. Maybe there is nothing there, but I feel like minor leaguers rarely pitch back to back days. Could be the Brewers trying to get him comfortable with a more MLB type bullpen schedule. I probably am just reading way too much into it though.

I sure as hyeck hope so. As you and I both know, he deserves the opportunity given what he's shown on a night-in and night-out basis. For me, at this juncture, it's Andrews and Contreras who 'should' be the next arms up.
