I wonder if towards the end of this year we'll start to see Rodriguez get a grip on his control issues. The walks are really the only thing hurting him, and some improvement could make the sky the limit

Carlos Rodriguez (the hitter) is on some kind of roll right now. Batting average is nearing.300. Black on base again but surprisingly did not steal!

Tyler Black is the type of hitter we could probably call up to the big leagues right now, and we'd get a .380 OBP out of him at minimum. Tempting if we wanted to jettison Rowdy and/or Winker.

The AA Shuckers are trying to ride yesterday's momentum to win a second game at home against Chattanooga today. 21-year old RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez (3.34 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 12.4 K/9 in 56.2 IP) is today's starting pitcher and yesterday's walk-off hero LF Tristen Lutz is back in the lineup to continue his solid month (.938 OPS in 54 June PAs).

I've seen some prospect guys speculate his control issues could be very related to the tacky baseball hurting his changeup command.

The High-A Timber Rattlers also have an early game today and seek a 2-0 series lead at home against Lansing. Today's starter is Birthday Boy (he's 22 now) RHP Cameron Wagoner (7.66 ERA in 47 IP). LF Terence Doston is on a decent run (12-of-last-33 though all singles; with only 4 Ks).

This. And, to be honest here, we 'shouldn't' be rushing to any pitching conclusions until those balls are removed. Classic MLB foolery.

When are they removing the sticky balls? Can we just leave the damn baseballs alone, across all levels? This is getting ridiculous.

Well, he did later in the game after his second walk of the game. One SB away from 40!

After the 1st half of the season. I believe that date is coming up very soon maybe even some time next week?

And play him where? A 5’ 10” first baseman?

I can't describe fully how awesome it is to see the young Shuckers win these first two games versus this Red(s) hot Chattanooga club. Two different types of victories. Equally impressive. Especially gratifying after two very tough losses to close out their series at Montgomery

Doesn’t he have the arm for right field? (long-term; I don’t actually mean this year for MLB).

If the Twins could try Sano out there (what in God’s name were they thinking?), it might be worth a try for Black, if the 3B experiment is ultimately abandoned.

I think he had the same issues last season, but possibly! It becomes worrisome if it's a big issue at the end of the season

If he cannot play an infield position, Black is a prime candidate for a trade. Our OF is stacked for years to come.

After yesterday’s rainout, AAA Nashville and Norfolk try again to get their series started, with the Sounds welcoming back DH Keston Hiura and 2B Josh VanMeter from injuries. RHP Caleb Boushley (4.57 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 7.5 K/9 in 61 IP) now gets to start on normal rest.

Probably not the most ideal DH guy, but Black could just be your full-time DH. Of course, Yelich is probably destined for that role starting next year. So let’s just hope Black can be serviceable at 3B. Otherwise, I’m not sure what you do with him. What I do know is the dude is an absolute on-base machine that can hit for some power and steal a base or two.

Well, I've been saying for quite a bit, why not slot him back to 2B? He wasn't bad there. He wasn't eye-popping by any measure - maybe a little stiff - but it's likely the best place to continue playing him long-term. Regardless, I am personally not in favor of trading the best bat and best offensive approach in the entire system. And, yes, I do believe he is the best bat in the system. He does so many things in that batters box you can not teach. This is his first year focusing on evolving his stroke to the power gaps and he's been really advancing at an accelerated rate. He will easily set the Biloxi steals record - already blew the on base record out of the water. I'll wait for the position to declare itself. And, if you think the Brewers won't try him at first base - regardless of his listed height he has size and a frame that say it could 'work' - they've primarily been playing Hiura there and LF all Triple-A season. And, also also also 😅, Tyler Black is NOT 5'10". That's an absurd antiquated measurement. Very very easily he is closer to 6'3" and is likely 6'2". There is no way in god's green Earth he is remotely as short as Keston Hiura who is listed as a real 5'11". Of this, I can guarantee you. I watch most of his games on the regular. That measurement is oldddddd.

The Low-A Mudcats need a win against Lynchburg at home tonight to forge a 1-1 series tie. 20-year old RHP Patricio Aquino (1.82 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 9.6 K/9 in 34.2 IP) aims for another solid start. SS Gregory Barrios has found his groove with a .853 OPS thus far in 72 June PAs.

Fangraphs, baseball reference, and the Biloxi website all have him listed as 5'10. I could have sworn he was listed as 6'1 last season and I know for a fact he was listed at 5'11 earlier this season because I noted it when I saw it.

So I am not taking crazy pills. Wright State and all the draft scouting reports had him listed as 6'2 and everywhere now has him listed at 5'10...what's going on?

I've seen several 6'2"s. And, when I see his frame, his mass, his strength...he plays every bit of 6'2". I refuse to accept 5'10". I remember this when he was first drafted:

Quote

With the 33rd overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, the Milwaukee Brewers selected Tyler Black, 2B/3B, Wright State

Standing at 6’2″ and 220 pounds, Tyler Black brings a great hit tool and a great swing from the left side of the plate. His power is solid, although not a plus tool, and he could end up hitting around 15-20 HRs a year.

He is a strong man. That 220 hits. Maybe I just want him to be 6'2"? Maybe, I'm just a moron.😅
