I think it’s becoming quite clear that the reds are good.   A lot better than us

that being said.   Heck of a game tonight by the brew crew.   Miley and therean are our only good pitchers.

Reds are 14 of 15 in runs allowed and we’re close to 80 games in. No team has won anything in  baseball with pitching that poor, not even a recent hit streak has helped them in that department.

No it wasn’t.   Come on

I wasn’t afraid of the pirates     I don’t car how many games they were up.   We hit fricking .220 as a team.   The reds don’t even have one player close to that

Oh yes it was. You may not have been but there were people here talking about the Pirates’ hot streak as legit. They cooled off and we shouldn’t be surprised to see the Reds cool off as well. They are relying a ton on rookies, unproven players, and well past their prime guys.

I’m not saying our lineup is good or anything, but I wouldn’t be using batting average to make your case in the year 2023.

Same thing was said about the Pirates a month ago.

And about the Brewers when they started 15-6.

Key will be Peralta's start tomorrow. For as inconsistent as our offense has been, Freddy's been rivaling them lately. More all-star Freddy and less bad Freddy.

You have a different definition of “inconsistent” than I do when it comes to the Brewers offense.

In my book an offense that has scored the fewest runs in MLB over the last 54 games (a quarter of a season) is bad, not inconsistent.

“Inconsistent” is a word that homer announcers often use to describe their teams.

The Reds have offense, defense, speed, athleticism capable of winning a WS. But they will need to add pitching at the deadline, which Krall has already said they will do.

Another starter like Giolito or Bieber to go with Greene-Abbott and a finally healthy September Lodolo, should give them a super strong 4-some rotation. Adding Chapman or other KC bullpen arms to go with Sims & Diaz will make their bullpen quite strong as well.

This team is dangerous.

Rookies, unproven players, and players well past their prime. Who does that remind you of?

Maybe BA isn’t a good measure of offense in 2023, but runs scored should be and the Brewers are among the worst in MLB, and the very worst over the last 54 games.

Maybe the Reds will collapse, but it isn’t going to take much to win this division, and they have a significant number of weapons.

Sure, but the Reds team that was so awful to start the season is not the same team that is taking the field now.

Not even close to the same team

In some important ways it’s not even the same team the Brewers faced a few weeks ago.

They have added Abbott (who, of course, shut down the Brewers) de la Cruz, and Votto, who may be well past his prime but can still add a veteran presence.

I’m not saying that they will, or should, run away with the division. But I won’t be surprised if, after they come down from this torrid streak, they still have enough weapons to at least stay with the Brewers. They remind me in a general way of teams like the Cubs and Royals in the 2014-15 period when they made a dramatic jump from doormat to winning team. Or like the Brewers in 2007 and 2017.
