McMahon is projected for something like a defense heavy 11 WAR over the next four seasons with $56M owed over that time, so I’d say he has slightly positive trade value.

Problem is he’s got a career best 101 wRC+ so far this year. Coming into the year he had an 89 wRC+ in 2,151 career PAs. Teams typically want more offense than that out of 3B no matter how good the glove is.

About that glove. Coors also inflates the defensive metrics of good infielders because the Rockies target ground ball pitchers and Coors has more balls in play that any other stadium.

McMahon is at something like +15 DRS | +10 OAA per full season since 2020. If teams think he is more of a +5-10 fielder than a +10-15 fielder that shaves two to four wins of that 11 WAR four year projection too.

That seems like a lot to give up for a pitcher who has been horrible in back to back seasons.

Advanced metrics are a bit more kind to Johnson than back of the baseball card numbers, but i tend to agree it's a lot for simply a guy in the bullpen. Not like Johnson will be pitching the 8th consistently unless he improves a lot. It's also early...seems like the Rockies set a fairly high asking price and the Braves must see enough of something in Johnson to simply meet it before other teams get more aggressive. It's certainly a choice, we'll see how it plays out.

The Braves farm system is super weak so don’t read too much into those prospect rankings.

Vodnik is a 23 year old RP in AA with a 3.10 ERA and 3.56 FIP. Gordon is a 25 year old SP in AAA with a 5.86 ERA and 4.25 FIP across AA and AAA this year. I’m not sure either of these prospects would be ranked in the Brewers system. Maybe Vodnik would be in the 20’s like Cam Robinson was to start the season

Fangraphs has Vodnik as a FV 40. Jason Junk or so in terms of value but Vodnik is really a big fastball with hope to become a reliever.  Gordon isn't even scouted,

Regarding CJ Cron among others, does anyone have any insight as to what contending teams are looking for 1b/DH types? I looked simply at production at 1b and DH. Contending teams getting poor production from those positions include Astros, Phillies, Marlins, Reds, and maybe the Angels. The Astros have Jose Abreu at 1b along with 2 other RH bats that play some 1b/DH. I don't think they are contenders for Cron. The Phillies have Harper, Schwarber, Castellanos, Bohm that generally play LF/RF/1b/DH. I would think they'd be more inclined to target a corner OF to allow Schwarber/Castellanos/Harper to DH/1b most of the time. The Reds have Votto at 1b everyday and rotate a handful of guys at DH. Cron makes some sense to them, but I would assume they are more focused on pitching. Marlins have Soler and Cooper at 1b/DH most of the time, I don't think they are in the market for Cron. Angels have a pretty decent bat at DH and a Moose playing a lot of 1b, plus they might not buy...though Cron was in the org previously so they may be more inclined to target him. Primary point being, there isn't a better fit for Cron that in Milwaukee...and I don't see a ton of competition for his services. I expect the primary focus for almost every contender being pitching.

Straw Man, I can’t keep up with your Logic 101 skills! Hey! Guess what Matt Moore, Jurickson Profar, Andrew Benintendi and a Jackson Chourio have in common?…..

They were all #1 prospects

I'll bite. Profar and Benintendi were top of class pickups that automatically puts them at a top 60 ranking pretty much before playing a professional game(Jed Bradley was top 100 due to this)

Profar lost 2 full seasons when he was expected to play his 1st full season to shoulder injury.  Pretty rough start to meet the expectations.

Moore (HS 8th rd) was off and running and then needed TJ and never returned to his forthcoming #1 prospect self. Injuries plagued and runied his career. (Think Jimmy Nelson)

Chourio you hope doesn't suffer the fate of early career severe injury. He was 18th on international signing ranking so he was on the radar unlike our C Quero.  What exactly should be the expectation of a #1 prospect? 3+WAR yearly?  5+? 7+?
