Yophery Rodriguez definitely hasn't been as metronomic as he started the year, 2 K's to open the game today.

Anthony Flores with seven strikeouts through five innings of work, giving up just two hits and a HBP

RHP Tyler Woessner (3.75 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 7.6 K/9 in 98.1 IP) is on the hill for High-A Wisconsin at home against Dayton, as the Timber Rattlers seek to extend their series lead to 3-1. 1B Alex Hall comes in with a 5-game hitting streak.

Is Noah Campbell just not a switch hitter anymore? I've seen him hit LH against multiple LHP the last week or so.

Might make sense to experiment after struggling as RHH against lefties this year and last year.

LHP Robert Gasser now has 142 K in 113 1/3 IP in 2023. The Brewers have to love this season and his future outlook for the MLB club.

Second outing in a row RHP Nick Merkel has been roughed up some. Here's hoping he can recover and get some clean outings under his belt. 2 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 1 K, 4 ER. T-Rats trail in the bottom of the 8th - men on 1st and 2nd w one down - but the game has been rain delayed.

1B Ernest Martinez Jr. (slotted 7th in the batting order) hit 2-for-4 with 2 2B. The man continues to be scorching hot.

Making a case to be re-signed this year as a minor-league free agent.

He's certainly had injury problems, but when he is on the field... he's good. I always thought he was an Eric Thames with speed.

Wilken hits an absolute end of the bat squibber up the 1B line it impractically spins back in play and Ward scores from 3B. 6-6. Wood up to the dish with Boeve now at 2B. Wow.

Wood works the count full laying off an off-speed below the zone and a high heater and then stares at a fastball right over the belt. Hard to imagine how he'd let that pitch go without at least a swing. We certainly haven't seen anything remotely resembling the Carolina Mudcat version of Wood at the dish. Boeve is stranded at 2B and we are headed to Xtras. Alex Hall hit the 3-run jack upon the restart in the bottom of the 8th:

Essentially the same pitch Wood took looking for strike 3. Little bit different scenario and result. Continue to love Alex Hall's short compact but powerful swing.

That Wilken AB is just textbook he's too patient at the plate. 1-0 count and he got a hanging slider left up. Power hitter like Wilken needs to be swinging the bat there. He didn't see another pitch that hittable the rest of the AB. Can't pass up hittable pitches like that at the pro level.

I'm guessing changing an approach is going to be much simpler than changing his whole swing, especially to a more aggressive version.

Of course everyone gets fooled every now and then by a hanger but I've a feeling we'll know by this time next year if

A) he can dominate when he gets ahead

B) he can cover the outer third of the zone

If he can, holy mother of jingle bells
