Low-A Carolina gets us started, as they aim to close out a 5-1 home series win over Delmarva. 6’4” RHP Will Childers (5.12 ERA with 32 Ks in 38.2 IP) gets the start and yesterday’s walk-off hero 3B Luke Adams (.859 OPS with 70 BB / 78 K ratio) bats third.

High-A Wisconsin has dropped 3 games in a row, so needs a home win over Dayton in the finale to tie the series 3-3. 21-year old RHP Edwin Jimenez (4.12 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 8.9 K/9 in 89.2 IP) is today’s starter. 2B Mike Boeve has 17 RBIs in his 13-game minor league career.

AAA Nashville aims to polish off a 5-1 series win at Indianapolis, welcoming LF Skye Bolt back from injury. RHP Caleb Boushley (4.70 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 7.2 K/9 in 105.1 IP) makes his second start of the week.

Things went sideways in a hurry for Will Childers in the top of the 5th inning: bunt single, walk, walk, grand slam. Mudcats trail 6-3. This was after a double (Jesus Chirinos) and 2 singles (Dylan O'Rae, Luis Castillo) helped produce a three-run 3rd inning to give Carolina a 3-2 lead. O'Rae also stole his first base at this level.

Tyler Black won another ball-strike challenge to draw a full-count walk in the top of the 4th inning, then Keston Hiura broke up the early no-hitter with an infield hit. Sounds and Indians are tied 0-0 through 3 1/2 innings. Rowdy Tellez is 0-for-2 with 2 Ks, as he perhaps gives the organization some food-for-thought regarding the timing of his return to the Brewers. Hopefully Caleb Boushley can keep posting zeros.

Very happy to see 1B Alex Hall moved up in the line-up. He has a very good rapport (my own observation - on-field banter) with 3B Brock Wilken. It feels pairing their bats together makes sense - given Hall is also swinging a much better bat than advertised. Hall responds with an RBI 2B. A Joe Gray Jr. ground out to 1B RBI tallies another. And a base knock from Hendry Mendez. It's 3-0 T-Rats in the first. Mendez is on 1st and Darrien Miller is in a 3-1 count.

Edwin Jimenez dealing and with efficiency, six scoreless with 2 H | 1 BB | 3 K on only 56 pitches.

Wilken singled to start the bottom of six, now 2-2 with a walk.

Welp, the Mudcats lost 8-4. AND, they now have series wins of 5-1; 5-1; and 4-2 over their past three series. We'll take it. They remain 5.5 G ahead of the Fredericksburg Nats atop the Carolina South division (Down East won the first half so, once again, they are meaningless in this 2nd Half push).

The AA Shuckers have lost 7 of 8 games, but seek a home win over Tennessee tonight. Starting RHP Christian Mejias (7.11 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 9.7 K/9 in 93.2 IP) also needs a turnaround. RF Carlos D. Rodriguez has 8 hits over his last 4 games.

Shane Smith closes out the 3-1 Wisco win with 1.2 scoreless IP and 1 H | 2 K.

Lowers his season ERA to 0.98 over 18.1 IP with the TRats and 21 K | 6 BB with both his runs surrendered coming via solo HR.

Black with just a couple of hits in his first full week in AAA.

He's been pretty terrible in AAA so far. Seems to really be battling his swing even dating back to his last week in AA. His Avg LA on his 19 batted balls in AAA is -8.8 which is absolutely horrendous.

Barely has 30 PAs. Let's cut him some slack.

Yeah, off the top of my head, I can only recall one barreled ball so far with Nashville. It was a well hit line drive fly out to RF - might have been first or second game in Indianapolis. Outside of that, he's really topping balls and just not making good contact. Hopefully, he can get back to driving balls off the barrel as the season comes to a close. He's definitely fighting himself right now.

I've seen nothing from Brock Wilkin that would suggest a poor hit tool or a need to move off 3B. He makes hard contact to all fields, and can really throw.

Freddy Zamora collected the Shuckers’ first hit with 2 down in the 1st inning. Oh, it was a Grand Slam. 4-0 Biloxi after one.

RHP Christian Mejias with another rough start: 3 1/3 IP, 7 H, 4 BB, 5 K, 4 ER, 1 WP. It's been a very rough stretch of starts for Mejias who had provided some steady work in the middle of the season.
