So the last time they hit 4 doubles in a row was 1974. I'll go with May, Briggs, Scott & Darrell Porter.

Loved the add-on runs, but particularly the manufactured one in the 8th. We all know how hard Taylors' been hitting the ball, but he drew a nice walk to lead off. Second of the game for someone who seldom does that. Real nice job.

Fun to crank up the running game vs these guys, since the last time you could do that was in the 1880s, before Molina.

Monasterio is going to be at 2B vs LHP, as he should be. Very nice to see him transition there smoothly after all that time at third. Great job on the Goldschmidt ball.

Uribe was kind of a microcosm in his inning. Walking a guy w/a lead after going 0-2 is a big no-no. But then he sets his jaw after the WP & is impressive. Gonna be fun to watch him grow.

Wasn't going to say this because he had a nice game, but after the leadoff double by Santana Adames pulls a ground ball to short. On the first pitch. UUUGGGHH. I saw he hit himself in the head after being thrown out. Next time, maybe hit yourself in the head BEFORE the AB. You might hit the "on" button. But like I said, other than that he had a nice night. Seems to be a real positive mentor for Uribe.

You have a lot more faith than I do for a guy, going into tonight's game, that had given up 11 ER with the crew in his 12 Innings pitched.  If we didn't trade for Chafin he would have been long gone.  He's a sunk cost.

It's 12 innings.  It means nothing.

Uribe is the equivalent of Curtis "Panic" Leskanic and K-Rod on the mound.  Its never easy, lots of terrifying moments, but the job gets done.

I really believe he'll get to the point where that's not the case. Actually, when they first promoted him I thought the command would be worse than it's been. Fortunately he has the stuff to overcome the growing pains.

Collapse of the Cardinals' defense has been responsible for their season as much as anything.

I dunno. I think it's Yadi. On the ball hit by Canha in front of the plate, I'm sure he would've turned that into a triple play, saving one of the outs for the next inning.

A lot of drama though. He's a regular William Shakespeare with a slider.

Honestly the same could be said about D.Williams. More often than not it seems like he gets into trouble, amps himself up, and then gets the job done.

That said, every time I see Chafin take the mound I cringe.

So the Stanton 2 run jack and the subsequent loss meant nothing?  If were going to carry a 2nd left handed reliever who gets shelled most every outing might as well bring Lauer back up.  At least he can give us multiple innings while getting shelled.  It's been his MO in AAA since sent down.  All innings mean something.  Matt Bush only pitched 10 1/3 innings with us, do those innings mean nothing?

I would much rather have ran Payamps on 11 pitches out for the 9th.  Megill/Uribe/Payamps would be unavailable tomorrow.  We would have been fine with Milner/Elvis/Williams being the 7th/8th/9th tomorrow,  I am glad it worked out but I still don't want to see Chafin force us to have to go to Williams again because he can't hold up.  The guy doesn't belong on a major league roster, period.

There's no way CC is sending Payamps out for a 2nd inning at this stage if he doesn't have to.

There is about 1500 innings every season so yes those 10 1/3 innings are fairly meaningless.

His ERA with the Brewers is 8.49 and this WHIP is 1.371.  So he's not doing that great for us, let's be honest.

He certainly isn't. The walk in the 9th ticked me off. But I know he isn't as bad as some try to make him out to be, because that would be impossible.

The Eric Sogard of the bullpen, I guess.

Yeah. Payamps is way above his career high in innings right now. CC is being careful with his usage.

There is 11 games left.       Pitching the worst guy on the team and maybe one of the worst guys in all of baseball is not a long season move.         The funniest thing is almost every time you do this you end up having to use the guy you don’t want to use anyways.

but I’m not against what you said     In modern baseball you have to use everybody in the pen because you need so many innings    I think the issue is more of why is he in roster than CC using him in a game he could puke up again

That was touched on awhile back. He wants 2 LHP in the pen. Look at the other candidates.

I knew Molina was old … but I had no idea that he joined the Cards that far back 😬

Sogard was actually pretty good in relief 😇

No what it means is this guy has thrown 446.2 innings in his career with a 3.45 era.  This year in AZ he thre 34.1 innings with a 4.19 era.  He has been around a while and had plenty of success.  11.2 not so great innings in Milwaukee doesn't mean he's useless and can't get anyone out.  And what do ya know?  He pitched a scoreless inning tonight to finish off a win.

Despite the vitriol he gets on this board, I'm fine with Chafin. He is an experienced reliever who has had a very solid career.

In fact, it wouldn't shock me if he was on the playoff roster due to his postseason experience, and this board would likely explode.....
