Another 211 yards allowed on the ground. Just another "much less than the sum of their parts" day at the office for a Joe Barry defense.

It is kind of mind blowing frankly...  They look dominant at times; give up a few here and there; nothing really long... and boom 211 yards... I wouldn't have guessed that. 100+ yes.  Maybe 150, but 200+? wow.

The thing is where are you playing him? The ONLY thing you had going for you was you had OTs who were holding up. Walker and Tom played...pretty well.

You'd have to move Walker to Guard(which I think should be done, but not on the fly) and Tom HAS to stay on the outside. He's too athletic and not strong enough.

Nijman is CLEARLY one of the top 5, but it's a weird situation. He's not a OG.

I’m no expert, and I’m willing to wait to see some stats and reviews here, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say I’d be shocked if Walker grades out well tonight.  Seemed to me like he was getting worked.  Everyone else was, too, but you need a lot better from LT.  Just my impression.

Walker didn't have a good game tonight.  It is still impressive as a 2nd year 7th round pick that didn't play last year.  But this was clearly his poorest night.

they ran the ball 40+ times

I think some of this was game script dependent.  They were probably at 150 or so until it was run out the clock time, then they just ran over people for a few 10-yard runs when the Packers D was tired and ready to quit.  And I don’t mean to excuse their performance.  Run D is still a huge problem.

Can Nijman play guard???  I mean he can't be worse than Newman  even if he's never played there, right?

and that reverse was 40 yards so all in all they did so so. Not awesome or anything

Yes, maybe continuing toward Love could've been better, but Doubs did the right thing by not just stopping there.  Good chance that was picked even with Doubs staying and waiting there with the CB still cutting back in front of him.

Overall though... despite the 2 INTs,  I think he continues to look better.  But we need to get him to start with the second half.  He really struggles to get into the game the first half. 64% completion overall which is decent.

Sure, but Love is getting beat up in the pocket and when he's throwing that ball, Doubs is running a route where he should be there.

He's late and the safety was not as far back as I thought, but...it's pretty hard to find a lot of fault with Love. He did throw it to where Doubs was running on the dig. He threw it late and it would have been contested, but people calling it a Favre like throw...not really fair. Doubs turning up field as the ball comes out changes the look of the entire play.

Forgot about that.  And, sure the number of carries was obvious... just didn't feel that bad in the game. Of course, there were plenty rushes that were stopped at 1-2 yards... then "fell forward" to 4-5 yard gain.

No. He had awful technique at Va Tech, he's high waisted, he's not a particularly good run blocker or powerful, he wins with athleticism. Asking him to kick inside feels...like a very bad idea. I'd try Rhyan and hope Jenkins comes back soon.

But I'd be shocked if Nijman can play OG.

Tom could, but again, you're taking your best OT and OL and moving him inside.

How far in the doghouse must Nijman be to not even crack this offensive line right now?

Well, they probably would’ve cut him had they not given him a 2nd round tender. Such is the career of undrafted players: he has strength and size but after coaching him up the best they could he’s a fringe roster player.

Yeah, I'm not sweating his INTs too much.  He was under a lot of pressure today.  Honestly, I thought Goff had a worse one. I made a point to say it was late... simply because it was.  I'm sure he didn't have a good chance to survey before throwing it.

I'm ok with this being a growth year, so this stuff will happen.  Frankly, I'm happy the team (both offense and defense) came out and showed some mettle the second half.

Even Rodgers led teams (or *gasp* Brady) had games like this.

I get it. But a lot of the 43 carries was game script dependent. Where we knew what was coming.

It's still not good enough. I'm not saying it was the worst rush defense performance in history.

I didn't think. I'll wait and see the grades, but I'd guess he grades out average, Tom a bit above and then Newman in the ~-2 to -4 range, Myers even worse and JRJ -2 as well.

I thought Walker held up well vs his man and got beat inside a few times, but gave Love a chance for the most part.

Three times to be specific...

He has said enough in public over the years that isn’t exactly calling Barry out by name, but isn’t exactly subtle, either.  And LaFleur isn’t typically the type to handle these things publicly.  It’s almost like MLF isn’t the one making the call on Barry…

Perhaps I could've put that in blue... or maybe I just don't think much of Newman.

Actually, I have to say that Newman had a decent second half.  And no one had a good game.

Yeah, the Broncos game in ~15 or so. A couple Bills games, the Panthers game. The Chargers game a couple years ago.

They absolutely did. The OL needs to be fixed and that should be the main priority this off-season, but I'm good with where they are as well. It's only possible they win 9-10 games because it's a very weak schedule, but I'd say they're roughly where Rodgers and GB was in 2008.

You think Gute wants this guy employed? C'mon now...I don't think anyone likes being made to look incompetent...Barry makes Gute's defense first drafts look bad.

Yep. Doubs got there and the ball wasn't there nor coming.  So he kept moving to give his QB options. I blame Rodgers for drilling it into him😂

Newman is more consistently below average, but Myers annoys me more because he's solid at times and at other times looks completely hapless.
