The problem is none of the three are slot CBs.

Jaire can play slot, Douglas can play slot. There's nothing special about slot anymore. Especially with bigger WRers playing the slot now.

And there's an idea that the slot is in the run game more and they're really not. It's a small difference in how much they're taking on hits with the bubble screens and all that. They played with all three just fine Stokes rookie year. That's when they were at their best.

I don't really care about that. Quay Walker is trying to make a game changing play...trying to get up and block it.

I'll take a play of aggression 100 times over pushing a trainer or something stupid.

I'm...not happy, but I feel like the 2nd half, Love and the team showed a lot.

I mean, it's a stupid play, that's obvious, but...I just can't get too mad at Quay for THAT particular play.

There HAS to be situational awareness there. HAS to be. Whether the Lions make or miss the FG, the game is a 2 score game. BLocking a FG is not a big play, in context. Lack of awareness gave the Lions a first down, and an opportunity to make the game a 3 score game, effectively ending the contest. A block there doesn't change the game situation. Letting them get a first down , however, makes a HUGE difference.

That lack of game context awareness has to change.

I don’t know.  I agree it was a scramble play and Doubs wasn’t on the same page, but even if Doubs doesn’t break off the route, the safety was going to still be in much better position to catch that than Doubs was.  Throw was too late.

To be fair, that last one, we needed a return for a TD to have it be a real game.

but yah…all season, it has been annoying. More often he gets a flag so we start on the 10 versus an extra year past the 26 yard line.

He isn't good enough to take it out 8 yards deep.  If he is one yard deep... maybe.  But way too many times he is trying to punch a return ticket to he pro bowl.

No, Doubs just STOPS running the route for whatever reason. He was coming open and he turns upfield as Love is letting it go.

Just some of the give and take with young skill players/QB.

Who was it on, his eye doctor?

I know you don’t like Love but he literally threw it to where Doubs was supposed to be.  Doubs broke off his route.  Of course you already know this.

Had to be Love.  Even if Doubs sits there and waits for it, the ball is way too late.

Newman really sucks

Last interception might look worse than it was. Bad play result, obviously. But some more experience between Love and Doubs should lead to understanding what each was going to do. Love missed reading a late deep route play in Atlanta also. Both could’ve been touchdowns had the QB and WR been in sync and had that one extra beat in the pocket. Should come with some more game experience..

Sure...that's all true. And in Walker's mind, if he blocks it flush(not just tips it) but blocks it, now it's a play with a bunch of OL vs Walker and a bunch of CBs.

I doubt he'll do it again, I'm just not putting too much on him for trying to make a play like that.

Late?  He was flushed out of the pocket and threw to the exact spot Doubs was supposed to be.

Realize that Love threw the ball where Doubs was, stopped, then turned and cut back to the endzone.  It was seconds late for Doubs original route.

Just because I am not a Love apologists every time he runs a play doesn’t mean I don’t like him. Lmao

thanks for the concern though

I'll have to go look at it again, but it looked like if Doubs continues his route, it's going to hit him in stride and not go sailing past to the Safety 7 yards deeper.

He threw it to where Doubs WAS.  But the ball wasn't there... CB breaking on Doubs, Doubs does the right thing by keep moving.  By the time he was 4 yards away, Love threw it to where he WAS.   It was late.
