I think the crew wants to add Carlos but still thinking they might looking to make a bigger move. I would be happy with Carlos for a year.

Agree, It could also be that a package we like for Burnes or Adames (or others) has a mlb ready 1B or 3B and Black moved to 1B.

So, the Dodgers signed Teoscar Hernandez for 1 year / $23.5M, with $8.5M of that deferred. MLBtr had him projected for 4/$80M.

Only one signing, but it'll be interesting to see if teams are less willing to sign longer-term deals to position players this offseason. Something's holding up the market, maybe that has something to do with it.

The Brewers don't have many big salary obligations for the next couple of years until the young guys start hitting arby. If this becomes a trend, I hope they can take advantage of it and get a guy or two on shorter-term deals.

Hernandez deal has the feel on playing on the WS favorite for 1 yr while getting paid to be a champion and recovering off a poor season. Good-great year, he stands an easier big payday than the look he left after '23. Dodgers probably said they'd QO him after a decent season to entice him.

We are approaching the deadline for the Shota Imanaga decision.  Add the Arb deadline a day later for exchanging numbers and we should start seeing some action after this week.

I feel like we’ve been saying that all offseason though. First we were waiting for Ohtani to sign and then we thought things would heat up. Then it was Yamamoto. Then it was after the holidays. It’s January 9 and still not much has happened. We’ll probably end up with a flurry of activity right before Spring Training starts.

Nobody can do anything until Keston Hiura signs in Japan or Korea. That's the real hold up.

Good joke.     Don't need to sidetrack this thread with how heated Hiura discussions get here.  But really I don't see why a crap team like KC, Oak, etc doesn't give him league min. Try to coach him up, let him play the first 2 months and hope for the best, what do you have to lose.

I feel it in my bones that we are going for Hoskins. We should have been able to lock up Santana by now.

not much news about him

I could see it in that MA is still pissed at CC and is willing to spend some money to finish first over the Cubs.

What other overseas FA posting is after him though?  Imanaga is the last right?  The arb number exchangings, I'm surprised some haven't been told and or agreements on the season coming out before exchanged.

Yeah I think Imanaga is the last FA posting. I think it’s fairly typical not to hear arb numbers until deadline day.

Yup, and in the end, when we inevitably miss out on Hoskins because a larger market team pays him, we'll lose out on Santana because he will be scooped up by someone else.

If Bauers is our 1B come opening day, I'm going to be severely disappointed.  SEVERELY!

100% agree.

I hope he lands somewhere and has a good year.

I don't think Imagana will be bad by any means but I doubt he will be Kodai Senga good. He actually reminds me of Justin Steele which will be interesting having similar guys go 1/2, unless they sign someone else.

Cubs get Michael Busch and Yency Almonte in trade with Dodgers:

On the surface looks like a bit of a steal for Chicago, nabbing a MLR top 100 prospect and an upside reliever for two teenagers.

However, I also trust the Dodgers PDS and evaluation abilities more than the Cubs’. I wonder if they’ve seen enough from Busch in the majors to be concerned about whether his bat will translate. He’s struggled to catch up to velocity in his SSS. Not what you want to see from a bat-only prospect.

Busch was getting moved when Ohtani signed as the Dodgers DH position is locked up for the next decade. Busch is a 20 grade defender at the 2 positions he's seen the most action, and scouts think he'd be lucky to be a below average defender in LF/1B.

Not a good fit for him ballpark wise, but I would've said the same about Colorado and he was his usual solid self.

Also, not a surprise as he's from the area.

That's great AAV for a guy the Reds can easily slide into the rotation this season  🙃

Looking forward to watching him give up a few taters to Chourio and Contreras this season!
