Could AAA be a obstacle in Rodriguez progression. Let's hope it is more a learning curve and he can start to make adjustments, and not a sign of things to come. A lot of outside reports on him tend to see 4/5 SP upside, and not the mid-rotation starter we all dream on given the recent success of the organization.

And Knoth/Wichrowski/Letson with good starts, how about that as a start to the careers of some of that 2023 draft pitching class.

I think nerves hurt his command in his first 2 starts, then he let bad luck get to him in his one bad inning today. I was thinking how Ethan Small was stunted at this level, but CF Rodriguez is much younger and has more pitches in his repertoire. There’s time to keep developing him into that eventual reliable number 4 starter.

After a relatively uneventful first 3 1/2  innings of the 2nd game of their doubleheader, SS Daniel Guilarte starts off the bottom of the 4th inning with a BANG: solo shot to right field. RF Kay-Lan Nicasia then walks, steals 2 bases and scores on a CF Yhoswar Garcia single. But then the unthinkable happened: Garcia was caught stealing. Better check the replay on that one. 2-0 Mudcats through 4 innings. Hold on and Win!

Struggling for any semblance of an offense thus far in the young season, Biloxi still managed to score in the 1st inning in Mississippi. Without a hit, of course. Eric Brown Jr. walked, stole second and scored on an Ernesto Martinez sac fly.

Well, it was just a 7-inning game. 6 1/2 innings really. And the Sounds were shut out. But Joey Wiemer still managed to K 4 times. Oh my. That’s a step back. Maybe he should rest in the nightcap. You know, let Isaac Collins play?

Anyone have update on Matt Wood's defense at C. I know he was hitter, but has his D been solid??

Others may have more thorough opinions, but Wood generally gets positive reports on his receiving skills but only has an average arm (23% CS last year).

Who else but Ernesto Martinez can drive in Biloxi runs? He follows a Wes Clarke double with one of his own. Shuckers lead 2-0 going into the bottom of the 3rd inning. Bradley Blalock has retired 6 of 7 hitters thus far, with 2 Ks.

22-year old RHP Will Rudy (3.46 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 7.7 K/9 in 80.2 Low-A IP last year) makes his 2024 and High-A debut in Game 2 of Wisconsin’s doubleheader in South Bend, with the T-Rats seeking a 4-0 series lead:

1 - O’Rae - CF
2 - Lara - DH
3 - G. Barrios - SS
4 - Boeve - 3B
5 - Areinamo - 2B
6 - Chirinos - 1B
7 - R. Rodriguez - C

Let’s hope RHP Tobias Myers (2.79 ERA with 14 Ks in 9.2 IP) can turn in a 3rd straight excellent start to commence his 2024 campaign, as Nashville needs a win in Game 2 of their doubleheader in Memphis to knot the series at 2-2.

RHP KC Hunt escapes a tricky 5th inning (bases loaded, 1 out despite Down East not hitting the ball out of the infield) with a K and a line out to third, then RHP Harrison Durow slams the door over the final 2 innings for the save.

Mudcats win ‘em both(!), this one 2-0 while striking out 13 Wood Ducks in 7 innings. They now lead the series 3-1.

Good start for the Sounds in game two, leading 4-0 through four.

Brewer Hicklen has doubled and singled and stolen a base with Patrick Dorrian and Owen Miller each chipping in an RBI single while Eric Haase has a two run bomb.

Tobias Myers at 4 IP | 1 H | 1 BB | 5 K with 59 pitches so far.

If you weren't born in Nicaragua, you were putting up 0's in the Brewers minor league system tonight. Currently Carlos F Rodriguez and Stiven Cruz are the only pitchers to give up runs in the 7 minor league games tonight.

Josh Norris also stayed for game 2 and Bishop Letson from behind homeplate looks even nastier than he did from CF. Letson's command and stuff seem very advanced for a 19 year old.

Anyone with eyes/ears on the inner workings at Carolina---is there any concentrated effort (tweaking his swing or other mechanics) to get more power from Tayden Hall, or is it more a belief it will come naturally w/o adjustments? I love the start to his career, especially the ability to draw walks & low K totals. But homerless in approx. 350 ABs is certainly......I wouldn't say alarming, but surprising.

Almost a 6-and-1 evening, but the Cubs snatched a game from the Timber Rattlers despite putting zero runners in scoring position. Still a solid 5-2 evening.

As pure speculation in the wake of Wilken's injury and expected facial surgery, I'd guess that INF/OF Isaac Collins is more likely to be demoted from AAA than Mike Boeve is to be promoted from High-A. They'd give Collins the "Andrew Monasterio was given a similarly undeserved demotion in 2022 and has thrived since" speech. We'll see...

I've felt good vibes about Boeve since they drafted him (despite the defensive 'adventures' last year), love the start he's gotten off to, & hope he stays in advanced A for now. Pretty sure he will.

I don’t meet the “inner workings” criteria, but he’s certainly got it in him:

6'4", 19-year old RHP Bishop Letson (11th round selection in 2023 out of Floyd Central high School in Floyd Knobs, Indiana) makes his official Brewers' organizational debut, starting Game 2 of Low-A Carolina's home doubleheader against Down East.LSS Cooper Pratt is absent, so he's probably nursing a knock after departing the Game One victory early. Burner Yhoswar Garcia (6 SBs in 6 attempts in 4 games, with an .819 OPS) starts in center field.

Mudcats - April 12 2024 Game 2.jpg

Letson is probably the most exciting of the night for me. He or Knoth, but as a 11th(?) rd pick out of a cold weather state and limited exposure, to be pitching at low A already and show the type of stuff he did and the different pitches, that's incredibly impressive.

Knoth is great as well, but you more expect it.

As for Pratt...he's just one of those kids that looks like they've got the irrational confidence that they believe they belong from the jump...and I love it. You have to have some of that to thrive at such a young age, but he just seems like a kid who lives and breathes the game and loves playing and grinding. When you combine that with that frame, bat speed, his hands, that's a helluva package.

Wow😲. I guess.

Brings to mind the words of Kevin Costner. "Anything that flies that far oughta have a stewardess on it."

Tonight spotlights the progress the team’s farm has made adding legit starting pitching prospects.

Whether by trade (Blalock) or draft (Knoth-Letson-Wichrowski). And now we have Herrera to keep an eye on, at least I will moving forward.

So many interesting arms now in this system.
