Megill was pretty juiced up today. Coming into today he had thrown 22 pitches 100.0 or harder on the season. Tonight he threw 10 of them and averaged 100.3 on his FB.

This smelled a lot like the early season offense to me. Five hits & three walks drawn by the bottom 4 spots in the order.

I GUESS you can say Freddy is maturing, because he was back to Bad Freddie today--uncompetitive pitches w/two strikes leading to a way too high pitch count--but found a way to keep them off the board through four. But that walk in the 5th to the 9-hole hitter was bad, bad, bad.

Payamps looked moderately better.

In his last 8 ABs, Jake Bauers has reached base six times. Just pointing out that he's suddenly seeing the ball & recognizing pitches really well lately. Or maybe I just want to make peoples' heads explode.

Bauers the pinch hitter extraordinaire? He has 13 PA with a wRC+ north of 200 as a pinch hitter this season. Definitely a sample size that should be take seriously in my opinion.

I would much rather have Ortiz in that spot than Monasterio

Over 162, we would ALWAYS rather have Ortiz at the plate than Monasterio. But when you see a regular get a day off, usually the guy replacing him isn't going to be pinch hit for until you get to the later innings. It's just kinda the way it's done with pretty much all teams.

Besides, in his next AB Monasterio came up with the wicked line shot to CF to drive in the run.😛

Just said he's reached 6 for his last 8 & is seeing the ball well right now. If you watched his recent ABs--especially the walks-- he certainly is. Taking lots of stuff that he was chasing the last six weeks.

No, he isn't suddenly the 2nd coming of Gates Brown.
