They could DFA Keuchel and Joe Ross to make room and it wouldn’t bother me. Could get ugly if there are post July injuries though. Not sure what the AAA depth looks like right now and if they could add to the AAA depth before August (send Keuchel there for example or make a trade).

Dumb question maybe but can we activate dl hall and then send him down the rest of the year and recoup an extra year control?  He maybe should return as a aaa starter this year in our best interests regardless…

By my math no. He hit 172 days of service time today. Even if he hadn't, I'm not sure burning his last option year would be worth it.

y'all are WAY too concerned about service time. I swear bf.net cares more about service time than Matt Arnold.

Don't know why you're responding that to me. I was just answering a question.

Just coming by to chime in on the move.

Civale can be very inconsistent at times.  He would go a few starts looking to be on par with teammate Shane Bieber and then not make it out of the 3rd inning for a start or 2.  Fun note: Civale and Bieber were taken in the same draft by CLE (Civale in the 3rd round of 2016 and Bieber in the 4th round).  I wish Civale well, but it seems MKE will need to do some work with him to get back to the "good Civale".

Former local MLB pitcher Brian Anderson does a weekly Friday interview segment with one of the CLE sportstalk radio stations. Currently Brian is doing TV color analysis for Tampa Bay so since Civale was a former CLE pitcher in Tampa, the trade came up & was discussed.  1st: Brian noted there was no rumbling of the Civale deal in advance.  Normally they pick up something, but this time was pure silence.  That suggests it came together very fast. 2nd: Tampa was targeting Barrios as the trade return.  They feel he is a likely major league regular (not player, but regular) in 3 years. 3rd: Tampa has a couple more pitchers beyond Shane Baz returning from injury this month so Tampa might be open to moving 1 or 2 more starting pitchers this month,

Exactly. I think Pratt was a big part of the reason they were comfortable with this. Perhaps someday Areinamo allows Turang to move to SS if need be. A Wilkin or Adams could do the same with Ortiz. And they're high enough on Di Turi to send him to Carolina at a very young age. Plus there are some middle INF on the rookie teams that have ranged from pretty good to almost unbelievable. If just one of them proves to be 'for real' and advances.........

And Eric Brown has ample time to right his ship, since he's a 1st round pick. Hopefully it's just a case of the prior health issues stunting his development.

Some people just hate trading good, talented young prospects irrespective of the depth at a certain position because it's such a dart throw picking out who among them will be good. Who hits and becomes a stud.

I hate it....you get attached to your own prospects, no matter how much it makes sense to trade from a position of strength.

Some trades I'd REALLY despise. Cooper Pratt of Bitonti would be much worse, but this is the point of building a farm system. To improve the MLB team.

It's tempting to go into full prospect hugger mode. Like you said, you build depth at a spot, then trade from it. And we all have our opinions as to who should be ahead of who. To me this was the perfect situation--you have someone that an organization covets, yet he isn't at the top of your organizational list at that position.

Agree re Pratt. Bitonti has some swing-and-miss that concerns me a little, but I wouldn't like the idea of trading him, certainly not for Civale. Also hope none of the top 10-12 ACL or DSL guys go anywhere at this point.
