Brewers Plan To Be "All Pitching" At The Trade Deadline

Zachary Rotman of FanSided, quoting Robert Murray of the same publication, revealed that sources familiar with the Brewers are all-in on acquiring pitching at the trade deadline. While the struggles of relievers like Joel Payamps make it likely Milwaukee will dabble in the reliever market, most of the focus is believed to be on the starting rotation.

That makes sense. Brewers starters have struggled to go deep into games, further extending their bullpen, which could have consequences down the stretch and into October. On the other side of the coin, the Brewers offense is tenth in baseball in OPS with no glaring holes to fill; to see significant upgrades offensively, the Brewers might have to shop on the top shelf of trade candidates, something they are unlikely to do.

The Brewers recently acquired Aaron Civale from the Tampa Bay Rays but as of today, Dallas Keuchel still holds a rotation spot for the Crew. While Keuchel could be an acceptable short-term solution to the deadline, it's unlikely he will be a pitcher General Manager Matt Arnold is interested in relying on through the dog days of summer.

While teams like the Texas Rangers might have interesting starters to trade - primarily Michael Lorenzen - it's likely the Brewers will pursue an arm that doesn't require them to trade away anyone in the top five of their farm system.

Id love to see the least Toronto would take for Kikuchi (rental) and Bassitt (controlled next year).   I know it’s rare to trade two in a deal, but seems like that would be the only deal we’d need if we could agree on compensation.

To further the discussion a bit, has there been any talk of being able to add payroll at the deadline? 

Another non-rental option that I haven't seen mentioned much is Chris Bassitt (BTV -6.3)

Brewers need a solid #2-3 imo. And would like to see that happen along with another bat.

I haven't seen anything explicit, but I'm sure Mark A's answer is going to be the same as it has been every year - there's room to add for the right player, especially given that their payroll is down a bit this year.

I think the Brewers will add an infielder to upgrade the Monasterio spot too.

Somebody like Paul DeJong or Amed Rosario comes to mind.

They have some money and need to find pitching that helps lighten the bullpen load. They can use a steady bat

The Brewers as usual been very very Quiet as we get closer to the trade Deadline. It the calm before the storm as expect the crew to be somewhat active in trying to add a much needed Starter to help not only the rotation but to help the malign BP. I don’t think it be a top guy but someone steady.

They were in on IKF in the offseason, so I could see that if the Blue Jays are willing to move a non rental.
