Thinking that doing anything in terms of limiting pitch counts below 100 an outing for a guy consistently throwing over 100 mph with filthy breaking stuff is going to turn him into a 20 year starter is a fools' errand.  And Kerry Wood was routinely abused by Dusty early in his career, many times to get him through 6 or 7 IP with much higher pitch counts...don't like the comparison to a guy flat out dominating a lineup and coasting through 7, still under 100 pitches on a great weather day.

I get that the game has changed - doesn't mean I like it in this situation.

Hey I'm an anti bunt guy in general but have to say I get a chuckle when it doesn't work and its a bunch of people saying how dumb it is.      When in other circumstances a bad hitter like Mona doesn't bunt and gets a DP or crap AB for an out and its a bunch of posts saying how dumb it is not to have a bad hitter bunt to mover everyone up in a 1 run game.      I'm aware its likely not the same posters so not saying anyone is a hypocrite or whatever but still get a laugh when I see it since this has been a "gotta bunt more" board for years.   Just generally shows how many of these decisions really are 50/50 things that can go either way

 

He sure looked bad t it though and the team should know that.

For me, it wasn't because we were bunting, it was because Monasterio was bunting.  He has never been able to put a successful sac bunt down in his career, EVER.  Why ask him to do so in that situation?

I am not against bunting in the least, but I am against forcing a guy who simply can't bunt to do it in that situation.

Big difference.
