Dude...some of these trades need to make sense for the other team. Why are the White Sox trading a draft pick for two players who will likely be DFA'ed by the Brewers and cost money? Do the Sox and their worst record in the modern era need a middle reliever and an expensive left-handed specialist who is coming off his worst season or do they need their picks(particularly since they're picking 10th at best?

Peguero going to the 100-loss Marlins for a pick

The Rockies a Comp pick and a rookie reliever for a 35-year-old depth guy making 5.5M

KC gets Bauers when they have Pasquantino, a lefty who's younger and cheaper, a better 1B while having Perez who needs to DH. Not sure why they need a negative WAR replacement in Bauers. Civale does make sense as another arm for them, but...that's only if Wacha decides to leave.

I like the Tigers trade...idea. Williams to Detroit, I think they will go for it. But I'd be looking for someone like Matt Vierling back. He can fill in at 3B.

Devin Williams+Joel Payamps for Matt Vierling and Owen Hall. Something like that.

Finally, we're doing a LOT of work to get rid of Black just to replace him with a bigger question mark and little versatility. Just keep him. If you can package players we don't want for a pick, cool, but again, just upgrading 3B and maybe adding a talented young arm who's a loong way away. But even that's a bit of a stretch.

I would go after a guy like Buehler, but I wouldn't target a half-a-season starter, just a guy I think could bounce back. He was dominant and he should be healthy. Because of those reasons, If I had to, I'd guess he'd cost 1/16 given how good he's been, and he back with the Dodgers...but he's also been awful and you really need that guy like Civale and or Rea if you're going sign a pitcher like him, the high risk, high reward, while  also moving Ashby to the rotation(which is still an experiment and his innings would likely be limited, as would Hall, Woodruff is a big question mark, Gasser could be back, but it won't be for many innings if at all. You're looking at MAYBE a short stint in Sept.

I also like Moncada. I think he'll get ~10M a year, possibly with a 10M Mutual Option and a 2M buyout. He's a talented player and still young. Teams will roll the dice there.

I just think you're reinventing the wheel. Patrick Corbin?  Look at the MOUNTAIN of arms we've not only got, but we develop each year? Why are we making him a reliever with all the BP arms we've got? I'd rather give the ball to Manfredi late next year and let him figure it out. Perhaps IF the Brewers think he can become a Miley and resurrect his career as a STARTER, a non-GTD deal where he could earn 4-5M if he makes the team could make some sense, but that'd be if the team thought they could get 140 effective innings out of him because they figured something out or change his pitch mix, IDK, he's been pretty bad, but...maybe they think they can work with him. It's been known to happen.

We really just need a 2B./3B. I'd LOVE to see the Brewers get a massive bonus pool of...35M, get 12 picks in the top 3 rounds, come out of the draft with 16 top 200 players, but...teams that are rebuilding don't want 30-year-old decent 7th inning relievers for 1st or 2nd rd CBA picks.

We're also spending quite a bit more. If Moncada signs for 5 million, he'll have chosen us over the line of teams that'd gladly take him at that price.

Again, we don't need a roster overhaul, just some fine-tuning, getting the RIGHT fit in at 3rd, maybe a reclamation project(Buehler is aiming really high and...actually the one arm worth the risk IMO).

But hey, a lot of...interesting ideas.

I said it wasn't realistic.

I do think the value of the relievers is higher than some people think, I agree the at least 2 of those were trash I just threw in to add comp picks. I threw Bauers in somewhere without thinking of other teams 1B.

I think Peguero and Payamps could/should get at least comp b (end of 2nd round value). The last 2 years Peguero had a 3.38 and 2.98 era (1.4 WAR combined) and Payamps 2.55 and 3.05 eras (2.7 WAR). I get advanced stats haven't been as good an if you actually watched Peguero he was a disaster with inherited runners. That being said each guy has quality stuff with cheap controllable years (2 Payamps, 4 Peguero). There are plenty of recent deals of similar reliever who gotten much more than a comp pick. Even guys like Wilson (2.4 WAR last 2 years) and Hoby (2.2 WAR 22/23) could have surprising value if Arnold finds the right buyer.

Hunter Harvey 1.5 years of control for Cayden Wallace and comp a pick (1 week from draft)

Luis Garcia .5 years of control for 4 prospects, none huge but 4 solid guys

Gregory Soto 1.5 years of control for Seth Johnson and Moises Chace

Mark Leiter 2.5 Jack Neeley and Ben Cowles

Yimi Garcia .5 yeas, Jonathan Clase and Jacob Sharp

We give up 2 solid prospects for Nick Mears and I would say each have more value than Mears and his 6ish era. (I still have faith in getting Mears fixed). Don't underestimate what we can get for solid relievers. I would say Peguero is similar to Soto with more control and Payamps is around Harvey (Royals overpaid).

I like the idea of Corbin as a reliever on a minor league deal and with my situation of trading away like 6/7 arms we would likely sign 2/3 minor league guys. Basically Corbin's fastball has been trash but his slider is still solid, if he is in the bullpen maybe be can get back to 93/95 and become a 2/3 pitch guy. As a minor league singing there is almost no risk.

Just some random thoughts of the day thinking about 3B

Any thoughts on Jordan Walker still being able to play 3B (1B). He is a terrible OF but was blocked by Arenado and Goldy. There is still big potential there, maybe a Walker for Black based deal? Or does St. Lois just move him to 1B with Goldy gone.

Could we build a mlb package that is enticing enough for Baltimore to trade Colby Mayo? I honestly would think about trading Freddy to get Mayo. Would Williams and Sal get us close to Mayo?

Could Alec Bohm be a target if the Phillies want Devin? Bohm was benched in the playoffs and struggled at theend of the year. Add in that Trea Turner should no longer be a SS. Bohm has 2 years of control and would be a nice get.

We really should get in on the Bo Bichette sweepstakes this winter. Cost is going to be relatively limited given the season he's coming off of and his 1 remaining year of control. But, assuming he returns to all-star form (which I think is a solid assumption at 27 going on 28), you'd have effectively replaced Adames' production and would be set up nicely in the IF.

I'd be fine giving up Tyler Black+, even for a rental like Bichette.

Late to this party.

I always thought Bichette was a top hitter.  In the academy where I helped coach, we would use Bichette's two-strike approach as a template for our hitters.  Then he seemed to fall off the table.

Here is a Reddit post that outlines what has happened.  If he is truly injury prone, I don't know how much of a chance the Crew can take.

Murphy hinted at Ashby to the rotation today. That would be fine by me if he can show the stuff and control he had at the end of the year. Maybe we could go Peralta, Myers, Woody, Ashby, trade Civale and Rea and use the savings to go after someone like Shane Bieber on a 1 year deal. That could be a pretty insane rotation if they could stay healthy. With AAA depth that sounds really intrueging.

I personally really hope they don't trade Civale and I don't think they will.

I'd much rather have Civale than Bieber.

I like the convo on all three ideas.  My thoughts:

1) Walker prob costs Frelick and black. Would you do that?

2) Freddy and Sal definitely gets Mayo.  I would not do that though.    Maybe Freddy and Perkins but ideally something less like Freddy and Peguero is enough.

I think Devin and Frelick might get Boehm.  Maybe we need to add a prospect in the Bitoni/Lara range which would suck.   But Devin makes sense for them and they need defense in their OF for sure .

I wouldn't do any of those I guess. I was thinking along these lines

Black, Wichrowski, Manfredi for Walker

Freddie for Mayo straight or Williams and like Boeve/Wilken/Adams

Devin and like Monesario, Bryse Wilson, or top 20-30 prospect for Bohm

Here is like my 8th offseason proposition

1) Devin to Texas for 2B/3B Justin Foscue and P Winston Santos

2)Trade Black and Peguero for Jesus Luzardo

3) Trade Rae and Wilson to Boston for P Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz and P Jedixson Paez

4) Trade Chad Patrick, Tate Kuehner, and Dylan O'Rae for P Pete Fairbanks

5) Sign 1B Carlos Santana 1/5

Trade Hoby and Bauers for whatever we can get

1)2B Turang 2)C Contreras 3)DH/LF Yeli 4)LF Chourio 5)CF Mitchell 6)1B Hoskins 7)LF Sal 8)SS Ortiz 9) 3B Foscue  Bench) Haase, Santana, Perkins, Mone/Collins/Dunn

Sal plays a bunch of 3B letting Yeli play some OF and Santana plays the Bauers role letting Hoskins DH more.

Peralta, Woody, Luzardo, Myers, Civale, Ashby

6 man rotation the 1st month or so than onto a 5 man once Woody, Luzardo, and Ashby are fully built up as starters. Maybe you have Ashby and Hall just piggy back a bit but either way.

Megill, Fairbanks, Payamps, Koenig, Hudson, 2 of Yoho/Hall/Mears/Uribe

That is a pen with 6 or 7 potential 7-9 inning relievers

The big focus this offseason should be the offense. Especially with losing Adames an ms the health concerns of Yelich, this lineup could start to look pretty weak pretty quick. I think it’s especially important to get one strong middle of the order hitter and another starting-caliber hitter at 2 positions. 2B/3B (preferably 3B with Ortiz going to SS) and 1B/LF so Hoskins and Yelich can DH most days. So basically I’d hope for 1 player each from each group below, with the positions between the 2 having to work out. Personally I’d look to move an OF (Frelick and/or Black) and Devin Williams to possibly get at least one of these bats via trade

group A (basically Adames lineup replacement):

-Brandon Lowe (1B/DH/ occasional 2B as Sveumrules pointed out to me

-Santander (can play some 1B)

-Eugenio suarez

- Max Muncy

-Profar

-Ian Happ

-Isaac Paredes

-Jonah Bride

Group B (lineup lengthening/lead off hitter?)

-Tyler Black internally as a 1B/LF?

-rengifo

-Josh Smith

-Lamont Wade

-Ryan McMahon

-Alex Bohm

-Jonathan Aranda

-Willi Castro

-Solano

-Jace Jung (if DET signs Bregman)

1-Hell yeah. I doubt the Cards do.

Walker was a superstar prospect. Not just a good one...a great one. He's a 3B who had MVP potential. I doubt the Cards give up on him and if they do...I suspect they take less to trade him elsewhere.

2-I don't think that gets you Mayo. Peralta is a #3. 2 years of a #3 and an OFer which the Orioles have 4-5 young really good hitters, plus Mullins, a lefty. I don't think they're trading a top ~10 prospect for that.

*Kjerstad, Cowers, Santander(who is a FA, but this Baltimore team seems like they're going to spend), Norby...if he doesn't play 2nd which would push Holliday to 3B, Westburg(HE could be an option and more likely than Mayo IMO), Stowers....and then their 1st round pick in '23(17) and a lefty with a similar profile as Frelick, Enrique Bradfield Jr, already a big year in AA and Mountcastle could play OF.

Point is, they've got a lot of OFers, they have a lot of lefties...so a top 10 prospect with 40 HR potential at 3rd or 1st for 2 years of a solid pitcher, but not an ace and then another OF who probably would be 5th, 6th on their depth chart(or lower if Santander is back).

Is that an exchange you'd make?

I think trading for Westburg or Norby may make more sense.

Their lineup should be

C-# Rutschman
1B-Mayo
2B-Westburg/Mayo
SS-Gunnar
3B-*Holliday
LF-*Kjerstad
CF-*Mullins/Bradfield
RF-*Cowers
DH-#Santander

And I think they're going to finally spend like a team in their market should. New ownership, I think they'll go after Soto, but that's a wild prediction of my own, I do think they try and re-sign Burnes, Santander.

This is a team that should be able to spend 150-180 pretty easily and they have 80M committed(roughly).

But hey...I could be wrong. They also have a 3B/C prospect Basallo who's 13th overall, in AAA and kinda like Quero a better hit tool(in terms of his scouting grades) and could be their Catcher of the future with a 60 Hit, 60 Power and 60 Arm. That's...one helluva trade chip if they want to use one to get an ace.

I just find the O's really interesting. If they spend, they could have a dynasty. That's a huge if, but you'd think they'd HAVE to. If nothing else, extend Holliday, Rutschman, Gunnar and lock up your core.

3-I would look at Bryson Stott as well. I think the Phillies MAY be a secret player for Adames. There were rumors they'd go after Soto(they may....he's the type of guy you justify getting stupid for).

Adames to Philly, you could move Stott to 3B. Bohm would be idea, but Devin Williams and if there's another piece, Payamps as they don't appear to have a great pen. I really want Painter.

They're also looking to upgrade CF. I don't believe you'll get enough of Mitchell making contact, making that contact in the air, and play enough games to hit some of these 30/30 projections.

I'd be willing to do a Devin Williams+Garrett Mitchell+prospects for Bohm and Painter or even Stott and Painter...more likely Frelick and a throw in pitcher in this scenario, but they have said they want to upgrade CF.

So I like that. Ultimately, I doubt they Adames or another big FA, but we still match up. And it'd probably be simpler. Williams+Frelick for Bohm/Stott, but I like getting optimistic.

What would we think about Ronny Mauricio? He has power and speed to go with solid fielding, he is listed 6'3" 166 so with the missed season he should have bulked up to add more strength. With the lost season my guess is his value isn't sky high and the Mets have lots of IF talent that is likely ahead of him. I am sure there are some guys Stearns still values that could make sense, maybe Black for Mauricio straight up. He hit .292/.346/.506 in AAA in 2023 23 HR/24 SB with a decent 100 ab's in the bigs.

What is Blake Perkins trade value? He was nearly a 2 WAR player as a 4th OF and has a lot going for him. Switch hitter, improved average over .20 points, gold glove calibar defense, cheap and controllable, and good base-running. Obviously he has a ton of value to us with Mitchell and Yeli's injury history but he could really be looked at as our 5th OF next year. Would anyone give us a young quality IF for him or upside prospect. Would it make more sense to trade someone like Sal who probably is regarded with higher value but produced in the same realm as Perk.

Not sure Boston says Yes, but Marcelo Mayer for Devin Williams

Brewers can keep their IF as is then and replace Willy with Marcello.

They might say yes, if they felt they'd be selling high on Mayer. Injuries and underlying issues both offensively and defensively may portend a fall down the defensive spectrum with limited offensive upside for Mayer.

Even if they wanted to sell high on him, they could get way more back. Mayer is a consensus top 10 prospect in baseball. Boston isn't trading him for 1 year of a RP.

Looking at the Red Sox prospects I think a Devin return would be something like...Jedixson Paez (20yo RHP with 96.2 IP of 3.17 FIP with a 29.0 K% and 3.1 BB% between A/A+) and either David Sandlin (23yo Big Stuff development RHP) or Chase Meidroth (23 yo IF who put up a 132 wRC+ in AAA with an 18.8 BB% and 12.7 K%).

Williams should get something back similar to Burnes, I agree your proposal is more realistic. How about Ceddanne Rafaela  and Sandlin or Meidroth?

Red Sox aren't trading Raffaela after giving him an extension.

I wouldn't be too interested in Rafaela personally.

660 MLB PAs now with a 79 wRC+ and ugly 2.9 BB% versus 27.1 K%.

Outfield defense has graded out really well (+12 DRS | +7 FRV in 751 innings), but I'm not sure he's really an infielder with -3 DRS and -6 FRV in his 692 innings at SS.

I had Williams to the Red Sox for Meidroth, Fitts, Romero, and Rodriguez-Cruz using the Tanner Scott trade. (Obviously not getting a Snelling type prospect back in the offseason) I'd be down subbing Paez in for Fitts or Romero.

He's definitely an OF in the bigs. Red Sox fans were arguing with me about him in Corbin Burnes trades that he was a plus defensive SS. If he was tgat, he would have played much more SS in the minors than he did. I still think there's good upside there because of his power that I would be down acquiring him and his 8 years of control remaining.

Williams might be able to get a top 100 propsect but not anyone in the top 50. For one year no one will likely give up 6 years of control of a big prospect. The price for a good reliever is still fine but gone are the days where 1 years of Aroldis Chapman got a top 25 prospect and 3 other pieces. If we can't get a 3B I am thinking of a Hader type return, 2 organizational top 10 prospects and a 3rd piece (not counting Lamet).
