I think at this point we go with what we have and make a move later if needed. The only other free agent I think could be helpful/stabilizing is Whit Merrifield, but I'm not even sure he's better than our internal options anyways.

3 for Iglesias seems like a crazy good deal, I like getting Quintana but if we could have landed Iglesias as well I would've been through the roof.

With injuries building on some teams are there any spots that we could take advantage of? We still have really good bullpen depth and utility IF. Maybe Jorge Alfaro to a catcher needy team if we can get some value back. Tyler Black somewhere if you are out on Black (I am not).

Here is my in season prediction,

May 15th

We trade Freddy Peralta, Luke Adams, and Joel Payamps to the Orioles for Coby Mayo and Chayce McDermott

Come May we should have Woody and Ashby at full strength with Hall at least on rehab. The O's already have Grayson Rodriguez injured and really have an injury prone/older rest of the staff. I predict that Coby Mayo is just to blocked in Baltimore and they have Samuel Basallo as a 1B/DH for the future and Peralta looks to good to them and our need for a 3rd baseman is to great. Mayo is exactly what we need long term as a power hitting fixture he can play 3B or 1B and when everyone is healthy and the AAA depth for the future makes Freddy expendable for the perfect bat. Adams is blocked potentially with our own corner IF depth and Yoho replace Payamps.

So your blocking Brock wilken instead for a guy like mayo who is not as good.

Coby Mayo is light years ahead of Wilken.

Mayo .293/.372/.592 25 HR AAA as 22 yr old (not great mlb debut), generally regaurded as top 20 prospect in all of baseball. Even better in 2023

Wilken .200/.314/.365 17 HR AA as 22 yr old (not great in AFL), generally regarded as borderline top 20 prospect in out system.

Neither are great 3B baseman or baserunners but Mayo does get a 70 grade arm to Wilkens 60 and 40 run to Wilken's 30 (per mlb). Mayo is about top of the mountain in terms of 3B potential that could be reasonably acquired and if he doesn't cut it at 3B I would think he has top notch 1B defensive potential. I still have a lot of hope for Wilken but he is a long way from Mayo.

A guy like Mayo would've been the type of guy I was hoping for in the offseason.  Obviously the large Peralta type trade for him is a lot to wrap your head around.   I'd hope for a way to get someone like him without giving up someone else who is needed to 'win now' this year.  But yea, BAL needs starting pitching.

Mayo is a top 20 prospect, he's borderline untradable. I feel like those guys are getting traded less and less. If we were shopping Burnes again with 1 year of control I don't think we would get offered Mayo.

I think if you add a Boeve or Wilken with a Peralta so they get a legit 3B/1b prospect back that might arrive at a better time for Baltimore, Mayo absolutely could be attained in a deal .

But then, if you were giving up that much, you'd have to be 100% sure that Mayo can pretty much immediately be an above-average bat and key cog for the next several years. Then convince the Orioles that adding Peralta to their rotation and waiting around for Boeve or Wilken's potential is a better bet than just finding a spot for Mayo on their current World Series-contending team.

2 years of Peralta for a blocked Mayo is plenty to give up imo.  How much longer can they keep Mayo at AAA?  Is an injury the only thing that is going to give him a chance to move up?

If we are throwing in Boeve or Wilken, then they have to at least give us a lottery ticket type pitcher in return.

If they really want a starter, they have to give something up.  I'd hate to see Freddy go, but it seems we may have already seen his peak.

You can't say Mayo is blocked, so he should be cheap. There are still 28 other teams potentially bidding. Plus I'm not even sure he's really blocked and they can't find ABs between 1b/3b/dh/LF.

If Mayo isn't good what does that make Wilken?

Right now, Mayo is definitely better than Wilken. Plus, after getting drilled in the face, Wilkens' #'s went down, which is understandable. After getting hit like that, it wouldn't surprise me if he never fully comes back from that. Imo, that would also be completely understandable. His life probably flashed before his eyes.

Never said he'd be cheap.

Westburg entrenched at 3B, Mountcatle and O'Hearn at 1B aren't blocking him long term at 1B but you have to remember Basallo will be ready probably next year. They have like 5 OF this year with Mullins, Cowser, Hjerstad, O'Niel, and then Laureano and Carlson. I didnt mention Urais and Mateo as other IF depth. They have O'Hearn, extra OF, Sanchez as DH options as well.

I would say he is like 3rd on the depth chart everywhere and probably 2nd at 3rd base. Can they find him 400 ab's if motivated sure, but playing somewhere different everyday and get 2-3 day a week off isn't ideal for that type of prospect. They will need pitching at some point and Peralta with maybe Sandy Alcantra is as good as it gets on a non 1 year pitcher. I just think the needs and timing will match up perfectly that we get Woody and Ashby back the O's get desperate in an always competitive AL East and we can benefit.

Getting Mayo makes sense this season. I have a feeling one of our many 3B options will be ready to take the job in 2026 so he's not as valuable then.

Hoskins is gone after this year freeing up tons of 1B/DH abs.   Contreras is gone after two years freeing up even more DH ABs

I have interest in Mayo as a 3B. Moving him down the spectrum reduces his value to me.

Well maybe realize mayo has 2 more years than Wilken it means that ill take wilken over mayo . Give wilken  time to grow after getting hit in the face and being a first-time dad we will see.

Mayo is ranked 14th in baseball. Wilken is ranked 18th on the Brewers. (MLB.com rankings)

This deal isn’t happening, but if it was Mayo and McDermott for Peralta and their pick of Boeve/Wilken would be close.   Maybe we add in Crod or Patrick but hopefully not in this hypothetical not happening deal.

Okay, find me any professional prospect ranking where Wilken is ahead of Mayo. There are lots of prospect sites out there.
