Wed. 8/21 - Return of the Fantastic Four: It's All Full-Season Affiliated Ball from Here

I know EBJ had changed his batting approach. I still absolutely do not like it. Way too much going on timing wise to make it happen and the results back up my sentiments, frankly. This is where he starts his AB at present. What are we doing here? Screen Shot 2024-08-21 at 5.52.48 PM.png

The thing is this becomes a timing circus. Bat and arms lower. Lead leg lifts. It is all just way too pin point. Do not like. Pitcher is in the wind-up now:Screen Shot 2024-08-21 at 5.54.08 PM.png

And now the ball is en route. So much going on. Do. Not. Like.Screen Shot 2024-08-21 at 5.54.45 PM.png

Is Yoho ok? 2 pitch outing. Maybe just wanted him to get them out of an inning.

Indeed. He is fine. He came aboard with the bases loaded. Two down. He did his job. This is intentional. Got the deep fly out to CF. The stated intent for his Triple-A work is short impactful outings.

Biloxi is unfortunately back to their mid first half form. Time to break the CF camera so I have no interest in watching this quote on quote baseball being played in Biloxi.

It is truly ALL the things. Catchers can't throw runners out. Hitters can't hit a lick. Bullpen suddenly blowing leads when they have them (it's rare over the past two weeks). Just playing losing baseball no matter how you skin this cat. I definitely feel you on this.

AND, now we suddenly haven't seen Brock Wilken in either game? Is it a respite from his unreal August slump? We are truly back to that team that was 10 game under.

Watching C's Darrien Miller and Nick Kahle trying to throw runners out on the base paths in any fashion is an exercise in pain management. I know these young men work hard and have great attitudes but the ball does not lie. They do not have the arms to make a real difference. And, of course, you know how I feel about Miller's slow movement horizontally and his slow glove costing his pitchers numerous WP's this season.

Seminaris has just been hanging these off-speed pitches literally dead center all. night long. I have no idea what is going on here but it is capital UGLY

Wlecome back to the Timber Rattlers pitching staff Mr. Costello. He is greeted with a first batter oppo line drive solo jack. 2-2 game. Sigh. He hung one dead center. Seeing that quite a bit tonight across the system.

You will not convince me otherwise:

INF Eduardo Garcia has become a lazy and lackadaisical defender. His reputation does not speak to this but I have seen it throughout this season and, frankly, it is not a fun development. Sigh.

Bottom of the 7th. Two out. Your newly returned reliever has already given up a solo jack. It's a 2-2 game. Routine hard hit grounder hit right to him. He never moves his feet. Has time to move his feet. Lazily reaches for the ball and it caroms into LF. Now Costello has thrown a wild pitch and that runner is at 2B. Costello gets the K but I have seen more fundamentally unsound baseball from Garcia in 2024 than I have seen impact. It's a near nightly occurrence.

Anyhow, he was rightfully credited with his second error in two nights.

Just getting caught up. Rough night for Mr. Henderson. And Sounds need a big comeback tonight down 5-0 in the 8th.

Shuckers. Well. I agree it’s best not to watch them now. Suckers as I nicknamed them when they the offense could not get hits (get it no “h” in Shuckers, yeah it was a typo that I thought was appropriate.  Ok bad joke).

TRats are having an intriguing night. If I told you Cornielle had 11K, and the team had 7 hits including a Pratt HR, I would assume alright a big win. But it’s a 2-2 tie. Tayden Hall 3-4 tonight. He seems to be settling in at high A. I think he can get himself back on the prospect map again with some more hits and a little power.

Muddies with a big win.  Another start for Woodward, baby steps moving forward.  And Yophery with 3 walks. Castillo with his 17ty HR. He’s a power threat. Maybe he can teach Tayden Hall how to get it out. And Walling and Bitonti have to make the Brewers all-minor league basketball team right?

Fun fact - with a win again (hopefully real soon) the Mudcats will have 70 wins. Can’t imagine there are many organizations with two 70-win minor league clubs Wisconsin and Carolina.  The two most entertaining and successful teams in the minors - wait sorry the DSL-unos cannot be excluded from that group.

Hall's last poke was a 40 mph dribbler miscue miscommunication between the pitcher and the 1B. He did hit a double to RF. I wouldn't say he's 'settled in'. We still aren't seeing enough loft or gap power in High-A. Lots of work to do. To me, he very much still looks like he did when he first arrived in Low-A. I am consistently left wanting more. AND, don't get me wrong, I like Hall quite a bit - always have. But, this is a sober assessment.

Ha shows you the difference between seeing the game and reading the box scores  whoops 🙄

But I have seen him with more timely hits recently- his power has not come in -  not even gap power, but I have seen more contact. That’s the settling in part.  The power, the elevation, those are what he needs to get on the map. But the games I have watched he seems less lost at the plate then late June.

RHP Tyler Bryant looks like a guy who could tutor you while you struggle through your math homework and then beat you up out back. My goodness he is fast becoming my new favorite Indy signing. Another master class in his first inning of work. 1.0 IP, 1 BB, 3 K. All he does is strike people out. Still hasn't allowed a single run as a Timber Rattler.

I should add after he walked the batter - with only one down - the batter took 2B via steal and Rodriguez short-hopped an errant throw into the shallow CF grass. One down man on third? No problem. Let me strike these young men out.

Lara HBP. Pratt K. Garcia fly out and grounder to 3B for Areinamo. Still tied in Great Lakes.

Going to the bottom of the 9th.

Shuckers and Sounds still scoreless - and only 5H between the two clubs.

Arroyo - Hicklen - Clarke start the bottom of 9, that's a group of rally starters, right?

Or get fly outs. Still no hits and no runs in the 9th. Strong work young man.

Bryant goes 3-up and 3-down and we are headed to Xtras in Great Lakes. Sharp ground out to 3B - clean play by Garcia. Fly out to LF. Fly out to CF. On to the 10th.

Sounds get a HBP (Clarke) but O. Miller strikes out. Only 2 H. 0 runs. Hard to win that way. Sounds loose 5-0

TRats on to extras.

Biloxi - well still nothing going on there.

Perez with an effective ground out to 2B advanced Areinamo to 3B. Looks like they are pitching around Valerio for a possible DP ball. 3-1 inside slider touches the zone. 3-1 count. They give him an outside slider - that wasn't in the zone. Sigh. 3-2 count. Valerio swings and misses on a heater outside the zone. That ump blew that second strike call. That slider was not in the zone. Two down now for Tayden Hall to face another lefty.

Hall was down 0-2. He's worked it full laying of some really close pitches. Really good eye here. He pops a slider out to 3B foul territory.

Yeah Valerio had strike 1 and 2 called generous. One or the other absolutely OK. But both edges of the plate, maybe not. But he got flustered and struck out.

Hall looks at strike 1 and 2, and then strike 3, but called a ball. Maybe payback? Then lays off two very nice pitches, unfortunately doesn't get the contact he hoped for. Good eye. But weak contact.

On to the bottom of 10 still tied.
