Brewers (Myers) vs Reds (TBD): 9/1/24, 11:10am

Can't be mad at Wilson. Offense had opportunity after opportunity to close this thing out today and they could not get the job done.

Wilson will get the L on the box score but its not on him. He gave the offense a chance to win it and they just couldn't get a clutch hit.

Oh well. 3/4 from the Reds is still good. On to St Louis

Not directing this at anyone here but I never understood why anyone ever downplays or upsells the importance of any individual game just because of what happened in the rest of the series. Each game is uniquely important and counts the same in the standings, it's not like a set in volleyball or tennis. A "series" is really nothing more than a lump of games played at the same location against one team.

I'm sure I've done it too lol. I just wonder if it is a mental thing more than anything.

Ending up facing the Cubs in a 3 game playoff series would be a crazy turn of events, but it's becoming more of a possibility if Atlanta can't start beating Philly.

Brewers aren't losing the division. It's not happening. Maybe if they had 6 games left against the Brewers, it'd be on my radar, but they have zero. The kind of catastrophic collapse it would take is not even worth worrying about.

There is the growing possibility of facing them in Milwaukee in a 3 game WC series.

It's just a way to keep things in perspective. It's baseball. Every team is going to lose 50+ games in a season, a lot of those losses are going to be ugly, and a lot of those games are going to be against teams you are better than. If you keep winning series, you're both demonstrating you're better than each opponent across a sample size greater than 1 game and you're continuing to win more games than you lose, which at this point will easily secure us a division title as well as keep us in the running for a top 2 seed in the league. So yes, it sucks to lose a winnable game, but it's going to happen from time to time and the fact that we're still winning series shows we're still on track and headed in the right direction.

The harsh reality of all this is that it doesn’t matter if we win the division by 30 games.    If you lose in the wild card to counsell it’s all for nothing

beating us in the playoffs nullifies everything that happened in the off-season and regular season between us and the cubs.    At this point the cubs making the playoffs would be a disaster.

their season was an utter embarassment for them and now they are winning a bunch of games in a row scoring a million runs.   What a bunch of crap

I honestly don’t care who we play unless it’s the cubs (unless we beat them)   Losing to them would ruin the season    Losing to padres or braces in wild card would suck too    But I can live with that

The Cubs are playing really good baseball. But, they are not suddenly some unbeatable juggernaut who are going to play .900 baseball in September, and they are not going to win the division.

Could they make the playoffs? Sure, maybe. Will we face them? Maybe.

This is going to be our 6th playoff appearance in the last 7 years, yet it always feels like we go into the postseason with a meek, "just happy to be here" mindset.

I've concerned with how well we play in October and not who we play. We have been down this road way too often over the last decade to not be acting like we've been here before.

Cubs have the Pirates again coming up (though they will face Skenes), but then they have six against the Yankees and Dodgers. After that, they go to Coors, which makes for weird things.

I'll never count out the appearance of September Craig, but it's going to be really tough for them if they're even 3-4 back with 14 to go. They have 3 against the Phillies still too.

It's a pretty easy schedule overall, but they're in a really, really tough spot.

I do agree to not be scared.   But that wasn’t the point of the post.   IF the cubs make the playoffs and IF they play us and beat us.    That ruins the season in my opinion.    Any other scenario doesn’t ruin the season in my opinion.

that’s just the reality of it

Ok, but imagine the Cubs get into the playoffs, we play them, and ruin THEIR season?

What would be better than beating CC and the Cubs to end their freaking season?

I agree, it truly would ruin the season if we face them in the playoffs, and they knock us out.  It would be the one team (even worse than the Cardinals) that I simply would not want ending our season, and that all comes down to the fact that Counsell is their manager.  I can't describe the anger and disappointment I'd feel to have that butthole end our season.

But I don't fear them, bring it on Cubbies!!!

Yep.   If we beat them it’s a big middle finger.    But we’ve already given them the middle finger this year.    We should be laughing.   But if they back door the playoffs and play us and then god forbid beat us.      There is a lot of egg on our face.    Period.

I want zero to do with that scenario.    It’s time for them to start losing.

Greetings! I've been reading this forum for quite some time, but this is my first post.

Regarding the Cubs, even if we beat them in the playoffs -- hopefully we will if we have to play them -- and then lose to, say, the Dodgers, Cubs fans would probably say (in snarky fashion): "Hey, 2016! When was the last time the Brewers won the World Series?"

Still, if we're going to lose in the playoffs, yes, I'd rather it be to a team other than the Cubs.

This is a lot of time and mental energy being spent on a team with a 6% chance to make their second postseason appearance in 6 years.

I don't know that I necessarily buy the percentages much, as I don't know if they account for momentum.

Going to get tight in the WC race quickly if the Braves continue to poo the bed in every opportunity they get to help us and themselves.
