Would you do the above deal if Stearns agreed?   We’d get a power bat at 3B/1b and a hedge with Durbin?   I’d want the lottery pitcher thrown in given that we are giving up a controlled arm here.

Thoughts?  I could see Stearns agreeing to this one…

Depends completely on how strong of a prospect the Brewers believe CRod to be.  Given how we have to go out to find guys to fill our rotation, I wouldn't be in favor of trading a potentially near-MLB-ready young SP for Baty.  Baty's buried in NY, thus fallen at least a little out of favor (or preferred prospect status), so I'd propose a position player like Black & maybe a couple B prospects at the most.

I'd be open to trading for Baty. He hasn't done much in the bigs, but did have some prospect pedigree. I don't think Carlos Rodriguez was really all that mlb ready, brewers were just desperate last year and had to give him a shot. Not sure on the value for either of these guys at this point, but I don't hate it.

C Rod won't get Baty.  Henderson plus might.

Then I'd pass.....HARD!

Baty is buried in NY, sooner or later, they might just have to dump him all together.  I would NOT give them anything of value to be honest.  Maybe a couple lottery tickets, but I have no faith in the kid to be what we need.

An arm we may need at some point for a washed up prospect?  Nope, that deal wouldn't be made if I was the GM, nope, no.  It just isn't turboriffic enough for me.  :)

EBJ probably doesn’t have much trade value

Nor does Baty.

So we agree on EBJ for Baty, Turbo?

meh...  I'd do it, but it wouldn't excite me.

I truly think Baty never lives up to expectation, probably the same with EBJ, so to me, this is a total wash trade.  Just a flyer.

It's very possible Baty is this half-decade's version of Dominic Smith -- once-hyped Mets prospect who's now blocked -- who may or not ever be what they thought he might be.  Brewers history is rife with guys like this, too, only the hype's mainly known locally vs. nationally like NY prospects.

You would think a deal is there to be had one way or another with us needing a hypothetical power corner infielder.   Not sure where Mets are lacking but yeah since Pratt is a legit SS ebj isn’t really needed a whole lot.

Imo, there's no way Stearns would agree to this.

I value black quite highly still.  I wouldn’t include him.   Maybe EBJ for Baty I’d do.

Yeah...I think people are WAY too down on Black. He's been moved around to suit where the big league team may need him. He can play a competent 2nd, 1st, OF. Everyone said he was improving at 3B and then Ortiz took over there and we had no need for him. He's a young top 100 prospect who really hasn't gotten a shot yet. Lets let it play out with him.

I’m not sure everyone said he was improving at 3rd……I didn’t see any reports on him from national guys or our own guys who watched him that feel he is even an average defender at first, 2nd or 3rd.

i have hopes for him but if the Brewers liked what they saw of him at 3rd they would have played him there in the minors last season…….which they hardly did at all.

Let’s revisit Baty.  Hes been bad as has our 3B production too.   I see a buy low here if we were so inclined.   Acuna is moving ahead of him it seems (and McNeil of course).

I don’t know what the Mets think they need but we could offer a mediorcre-good relief arm like Peguero and a guy like Wes Clarke maybe?   How about a change of scenery Black for Baty deal when Black gets healthy (I’d rather find a different fit).   Crod straight up I think I’d pass on at the current moment but some pair of lesser further away prospects (a pair of 18-40 types a ways away) might appeal to the Mets at this point if they are seeing a Mat Gamel situation unfolding (idk if they are ).  Just something that we should maybe check in on.   I have no clue of the current cost of Baty on April 12th.

Why do we want the guy that is actually playing much worse than our two headed 3B?

Baty stinks until proven otherwise.
