It would also appear the Packers are going to let Slaton walk as well. Wild start to FA for the Packers. Wonder what they have planned.

Those are some rather large potatoes hilled over to the Banks House. Welcome back to the Center position Elgton Jenkins. Fortifications.

Absolutely.

Trench warfare. Universally agreed to be the best Guard on the Market.

Adding real starter depth up front is never a bad thing. Surprising? I think so. But certainly not disappointing. Elgton was pretty much considered a top Center in his draft class. He could thrive there if called upon.

Getting the dirty work done in FA so they can make a sexy pick for the fans in the draft

Banks deal

Full terms: It's a four-year, $77M deal with a whopping $63M in the first 3 years in a deal done by Kyle McCarthy and Brian Murphy of Athletes First.

Yeah...that's a bit of an odd one to me, but...he's young and the Packers pro scouting is pretty good.

I think that Zach Tom price just went up. 4 years 100M would be a...pretty good deal.

And the plan is now what? Jenkins at Center? I know they love Tom and his potential there, but you're good with Banks/Jenkins/Rhyan/Tom on the rest of the OL and hoping Morgan can push Walker, make him better or be better. If you move Tom to Center, you could try Jenkins out there again. He was coming off the ACL the last time, but you'd more likely need Morgan and Walker at the OTs.

According to Pro Football Focus, Banks has allowed only two career sacks while playing almost 1,500 pass-blocking snaps over the last three seasons. Last season, Banks gave up one sack, four quarterback hits and 20 hurries.

I would assume it's Jenkins to C. There will be a competition with Rhyan/Walker and Morgan, and at least one guy is going to get hurt so hopefully they have 6 good OL. Who knows what Morgan is. Packers like their swing OL.

I personally think Walker is going to be a mainstay and the competition is at guard.

CB Nate Hobbs is a sneaky good get for Hafley's Slot. I swear he's been in trade deadline rumors heavily the past two season (I may be mis-remembering?) with teams really desiring what he brings. He's big and versatile and is a pretty potent run stopper. I've wanted the Packers to explicitly target a slot CB for near three seasons so I'm not going to complain here. Still have holes, obviously. But, I personally like both gets even if they weren't directly on my radar for the Packers.

As suspected indeed:

(I love this. Jenkins is a really good Center when that is his focus. It's already in his football DNA)

Jaire still a Packer, for now.

I wonder how much of a given it was he was gone vs how much Rob needs to write a story? I'd love a bit of a pay cut with bonuses added and run it back again, but that's because I know how good he can be.

Slaton leaving hurts, but I said I thought 3/24 would be what he'd get...but I think they had to look DL anyway. Kenneth Grant would be a great pick...or...Deone Walker. It was an important position before Slaton left.

These guys are fine. I don't mind either one. But if I'm being honest I really felt like the Packers are missing a top tier player on both sides of the ball. I was really hoping they'd be in on one of Crosby, Garrett, Metcalf, Bosa, Baun, Hendrickson. I'm aware some of those guys re-signed and were never going to happen but that was the dream. It doesn't look like we are really getting a transcendent piece in FA like we did last year with Jacobs and McKinney.

I hate going into the season expecting the draft to provide that. It just doesn't work. Moves can still be made from March 10 and forward but I see our division coming back even better.

They're gonna have to really address the boundary position if they're going to spend money on yet another guy who profiles as a slot. Again, really hoping Jaire and the Packers can figure something out. Then you can draft a CB, DL, Edge and none of them are going to be too heavily relied on immediately.

Similar to last year, the Packers are addressing their needs early on and can use the draft to let it come without huge needs. Really like the Hobbs signing...I'll trust the Packers on the Banks signing.

Are they? Because the two biggest needs are a pass rusher, a distant #1 need IMO, and probably a receiver. They needed an offensive lineman after today so I have zero issues with that or depth at CB. But those aren't needle movers.

I have a feeling that Gute thinks the WR room is fine. I'm sure we'll draft somebody in the 4th round. I hope that come August I'm not left praying that Van Ness turns into something.
