Great day for those following this team’s system, only to be topped next month when the DSL season begins and we get to follow all 7 of our minor-league teams.

Excited to see Boeve & Hall begin their rehabs. Excited to see the rest of the best of last years DSL class make their stateside debuts along with the HS projectables from the ‘24 draft-class.

I imagine the answer might be one of the rehab pitchers, but otherwise it will be interesting to see who gets the opening day nod. One of the prep picks? Mercado or King? Someone out of left field like Mercedes?

The Timber Rattlers send out formidable 23-year old RHP Tyson Hardin (0.96 ERA, 20 Ks in 18.2 IP) to break a 2-2 series tie against West Michigan, with a 1:10 pm CST start time at home. RF Hedbert Perez has 24 total bases over his last 9 games.

Hedbert’s hot streak has boosted him to the best batting line on the TRats with his 130 wRC+ just edging out Burke (127 wRC+) and Jadher (124 wRC+).

Extra encouraging to see him rocking a 12.8 BB% to start the year versus a 6.9 BB% over his first 977 professional PAs.

Man we just have fun starting pitchers going almost every level, every day.

Oooo. I'm going to have to watch Tyson Hardin's start from today. That stat line through 5 IP is pretty enticing, and we will see if he trots out for the 6th in a 0-0 pitching duel.

And Areinamo and Hardin got jobbed there. Not a great throw by Jadher, but Burke clearly did get back to the bag on the reply. So runner on in the 6th, Hardin still in, and no outs in the 6th.

94 mph strike and it's a K to end the 6th inning. Hardin works around the "error" and a single. 75 pitches to get through 6 scoreless innings and 9K.

Man the Letson-Hardin combo is something to dream on....

So since he just fielded a pop up a few minutes ago, I now see that Juan Baez did return after last night's HBP. Very good news, as how he went down looked scary, so I'm happy to see that.

Holy heck. I assumed Hardin was out after 6.  I turned it off and he goes 7 innings. 9K, 0Bb, 4 H in 85 pitches. That’s so impressive!

Now Bayden Root in and in some trouble.

Well Root gives up back-to-back singles to start the 8th. Limits - a grounder could have been DP (I didn’t watch to see if it was close) then sac fly and K. And it’s 1-0 Whitecaps. TRats offense needs to go. Gotta head out for a bit and will check back to see if maybe there is a hero in this game.
Hardin pitched fantastic in the 5th and 6th innings. Deserved the win. Offense needs to have a fantastic inning soon.

Yeah, I think Hardin is a man pitching to boys at A+. Probably should get bumped up to face better hitting.

The AA Shuckers can clinch a 3rd straight series victory with a win at Columbus tonight behind LHP Tate Kuehner. LF Bladimir Restituyo comes in riding a 6-game hit streak.

BrewerFanatic #1 prospect RHP Jacob Misiorowski gets another chance to show the Brewers what they’re missing, as AAA Nashville aims to clinch a series victory at Gwinnett. SS Oliver Dunn’s bat is finally coming around.

Zona Crew holds on to win 7-6 in their first game action of the year.

In addition to the aforementioned Juan Ortuno grand slam it looks like offensive highlights included doubles from Jorge Quintana and Engel Paulino, plus a two hit one walk game from Mike Boeve.

DL Hall worked around a pair of walks while striking out three over two scoreless frames.

Looking at the ACL roster and only three outfielders, but no Frandy LaFond?

Thought he had one of the better DSL stat lines outside of the headliner guys at 267/417/419 (138 wRC+) with 15 SB / 4 CS.

Definitely better numbers than Handelfry & Paulino so wonder if it’s maybe an injury situation?

Other thing that stood out to me is that Jadyn Fielder is the only USA and 2004 born position player. Freider Rojas & Gery Holguin are 2005 and the other ten are either 2006 (four) or 2007 (six).

The A-Crew box score demonstrates once again that, at least in a context of higher bullpen usage, pitchers’ wins are a stupid stat. In related news, Bill Schroeder should really have more time with his great-grandchildren.

Fantastic to see Pena back in the Mudcats’ lineup.

I agree with SF70 that Hardin needs to be at AA, unless he’s working on a new pitch or something. He’s 23 — seems reasonable to challenge him.

DeBerry is out for Carolina after surrendering one run over two frames with four singles, an HBP, and four strikeouts.

John Holobetz on for the third and goes three up, three down, two strikeouts.

Top of the order - Made, Peña, Payne - coming up bottom three trying to break the tie.

Here’s that Low-A Carolina lineup, including the organizational debut of 22-year old RHP Jaron DeBerry (2024 third round pick) and the return-from-injury of SS Luis Pena. They’re tied 2-2 in their home series against Myrtle Beach.
