Remember when I said there were Brewers' scouts seen in Taiwan about a week ago? Two players signed with Brewers today, which would be the first time ever in franchise history that they signed Taiwanese players. The last time a Taiwanese player ever played for Brewers was Wei-Chung Wang from 2014-2017(Oops that one didn't end well...)

17-year old, 5’11 LHP Joan Pena: 5 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 9 Ks today.

Have we found our 2025 DSL pitching gem?

Brewers Gold have only 2 hits, but lead Pirates Gold 2-0 in the final (7th) inning, seeking revenge for yesterday’s 3-1 defeat.

Brewers Blue also have 2 hits thru 6 innings, but trail Tampa Bay 6-1. At least C Johanderson Tarazona keeps producing (1-for-2, RBI).

That's up to 20 K's in 14 innings pitched and just two runs allowed and a WHIP below 1 , three walks and two hit batters overall 👀

I am absolutely ready to be 'hurt' by another diminutive lefty DSL'er. In honor of this wonderful moment, I shall sing a song to one LHP Osbriel Mogollon wherever he may be. The dreams continue!

Would guess its the former with Areinamo and Burke in the lineup for Wisconsin.  Nashville infield is tough to crack right now.

Low-A Carolina and Columbia are under way, with RHP Melvin Hernandez (2.65 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 6.4 K/9 in 57.2 IP) getting the start. We trail the home series 2 games to 1. 1B Eric Bitonti is now 2nd in the Carolina League with 9 homers.

High-A Wisconsin has also commenced its game at West Michigan, with the series tied at 1 game apiece. LHP Sam Garcia aims to bounce back from a tough last start (4 IP, 7 R (6 ER), 6 Ks). Despite his on-base streak being snapped yesterday, CF Eduardo Garcia still has a .953 OPS over his last 43 games (185 PAs).

The AA Shuckers can clinch this week’s home series with a 4th straight win over Knoxville. 23-year old RHP Alexander Cornielle (2.51 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 8.3 K/9 in 57.1 IP) makes his 13th start and Ethan Murray (.843 OPS in 113 PAs) gets a start at third base with Wilken (resting?) and Adams (7-day IL) out of the lineup.

AAA Nashville have dropped 2 of 3 at home to Iowa and turn to LHP Bruce Zimmermann for a repeat of his last outing (4.2 IP, 0 R, 2 Ks). After a miserable 2 months (.550 OPS in 236 MLB/AAA PAs), 3B Oliver Dunn has a 5-game hitting streak.

RHPs Melvin Hernandez (6 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 8 Ks) and Jesus Flores (3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks did not have trouble silencing the Columbia bats.

This is a reminder that Hernandez is one of the four youngest pitchers in the 12-team Carolina League (so is Dorchies).

A fortunate double play helped Hernandez escape the 3rd inning. Jose Anderson doubled and scored in the 4th inning and Eric Bitonti smacked a 9th inning 2-run homer.

It’s not hard to confuse this years DSL clubs offense with last year. Last year was a generational season with Made, Peña, Anderson along with Ortuno among others. Even some of last year’s holdovers (Lafond, j. Martinez) aren’t having the same impact. Nice to see some good pitching lines.

Dinges continues to rake. Another 2 run HR as the primary offense.  Burke is in a little funk. I imagine he will break out. If Baez, Areinamo, Dinges, Burke and Garcia can get going again that offense will start to win games like they were a couple of weeks back. Dinges is on a tear, and Areinamo is still hitting. So need Burke to break out again.

Bitonti -it seems like feast of famine with him. Good showing tonight. And what an outing by Hernandez again. Glad the Muddies are back in the win column again.

Cornielle solid but unspectacular stat line. I mean 4 ER on 9 hits yikes, but 6K and 1 BB and 5 IP, 85 pitches with 59 strikes is good. He can be a fringe prospect. I will watch again but if he can command his stuff he can be really good.  Still pulling for you Alexander 😀.  He got good relied so far by Middendorf (finally a clean outing) and Bowman,  shuckers only down 4-3.  What a walk off win last night too!

Mitchell with 2 hits - any statcast data? Or anyone watch? That’s good to see. Black stuck in neutral and going into reverse is not good to see. I Cubs still all over Nashville since that Tuesday night series opening win.

Biloxi’s hitters are playing with the sort of confidence we saw at Carolina early in the year.

Ethan Murray doubled and scored in the 5th inning to cut the deficit to 4-3, then Bladimir Restituyo and Murray hit back-to-back doubles in the 7th to tie it.

And once down 4-0, the Shuckers tell Cornielle we got ya.  Two scoreless innings of relief. And now Pratt singles home a run and it’s 5-4 lead now!! Pratt looking better the past 1-2 weeks.

And the Sounds take the lead now 4-3 on A. Vaughn single. Bases juiced and 1 out.
Black up. Good time to break out of that slump.
