The Milwaukee Brewers selected Brady Ebel with the 32nd Pick of the 2025 MLB Draft. Ebel is a shortstop from Corona, California. The slot value for this pick is $2,970,900, and Ebel was ranked 60th on our MLB Draft Consensus Board. A lefty bat on the infield, Ebel is an LSU commit.

Here's what our writeup of Ebel by Jamie Cameron stated before the draft:

Quote

Brady Ebel is the son of Dodgers long time third base coach Dino Ebel. He'll be one of the youngest prospects in the entire draft at just 17 on draft day.

The LSU commit has plenty of tools to be excited about. It's a simple, sweet left-handed swing in which he's able to manipulate the barrel well and keep it in the zone a long time. It's currently hit over power, but there's plenty more to hang on his 6'3, 195 pound frame. It's likely with some projection and his solid bat speed that there's more power to come for Ebel.

Defensively, Ebel has an average glove. He doesn't have good foot speed, although he does have a plus arm, soft hands, and solid actions in the infield. It's likely he'll slide over to third base long term, where he'll need his power to come into play more for his offensive profile to fit seamlessly. This is a young prep profile with four tools that are at least average, with a strong track record of performance. He won't last long on day one.

So Ebel is projecting like a "more hit tool focused, less power heavy, more likely to play 3B" version of Bitonti?

Not quite. There's a ton of potential power in there, but he's more of a projectable pick than a current performance pick. Solid tools across the board and the swing is delightfully pretty, oddly similar to Bitonti's with better zone coverage

I think there are some shades of JJ Hardy here. When we drafted him there wasn't much speed or power but he developed well. Ebel is a little bigger so maybe more power and less likely to stay at SS (announced as SS). Someone said maybe Corey Seager upside which I could see if things go perfectly.

Goodness that is a pretty swing. That action and pop at the point of attack leads me to believe there just may be more line drive power in there than was originally prognosticated.

Coaches (def MLB) kids with real talent & upside are always perfect to me. Fundamentally you know  they will be strong. Work ethic strong as well as coachability.  Then being able to understand the grind to make it & mind set to attack it is going to to be there. Nice frame to fill out. Think 3B will be nice spot for him down road.

From what I've dug into on Ebel and from this MLB.com article, he's just so similar to Turang when we drafted him.

Both grew up in Corona. Both had family in baseball so they really grew up around the sport. Both committed to LSU. Both were very well regarded preps who slipped a bit in their draft year due to not having a big senior year. Both SS with smooth left handed swings. Ebel is bigger with less speed and less defense but hopefully he has a trajectory like Turang and can become a Brewer in the future.
