These 11-20 rounds are just us showing off how deep our system is.

We don’t need roster filler and are just flaunting it.

Agreed we don't.  But some of these kids are exciting - and that is cool too.

At 6-foot-5, Lauridsen is the prototypical projectable high school right-hander. He’s very athletic on the mound and gets high marks for his makeup, not to mention what his future stuff could be. He’s committed to Southern Cal for college, but teams could bite on his upside to sign him away from school, thanks to a sinking fastball that touches 95-96 mph and the potential to have a very good changeup and two distinct breaking pitches.

All these picks keep saying "4th round grade".

The 4th round just happens to range from $550k to $700k.... That's our wheelhouse in 11-20.

Infinite 4th round pick glitch.

Gavin Lauridsen is 455th on BA's board listed at 65, 200lbs. HIgh effort delivery, high three quarters slot topping out around 95 mph on the fastball. He gets great riding life and they think the velocity might continue to tick up.

They suggest he could be a starter with more development, but his three secondaries in the curveball, slider and changeup are all solid to average offerings that round out his arsenal.
One fun fact (and an ex-Brewer mention)

Joe Doyle is equally excited to see him in the Brewers system

I mean they essentially do that via the competitive balance rounds and comp pick rules.

@JCREW - I think that there could be a provision to add some additional bonus money for Rounds 11-20 that could help out some - like increase the amount you could go over slot be a certain percentage based upon things like market, prior success, etc. Make it an incentive to try to draft and develop players.

Again unlikely, and could be too complicated, and big market teams will push back a lot.

What's fun about Lauridsen is he was allllll over the top rankings of the Draft Combine lists. Going back to look that over now but I remember his name all up in those Top 5's.

Yup.

Bullpen Velo:

#4 at 94.9 mph

Bullpen IVB:

#3 @ 19.9"

he came to the combine unranked but left with many asking how that happened (including BA)

I think BA's scouting report is a bit outdated. Delivery does not seem high effort in this video from 2 months ago

I agree, didn't see that at all, though the arm action is whippy and fast for sure

He has a four pitch mix. Fastball averages 18.8" IVB (wild n wooly!) followed by a slider and curve. Change up is a very young undeveloped pitch with not enough arm action deception at present. Fun lotto grab! Big athletic frame. 3/4 slot.

You can never know with the Brewers, but color me skeptical that the Brewers sign all 3 of their picks in rounds 11 to 13.

Yeah seems slim BUT Love this early effort regardless. You never know tho as you allude to. I just love the shift to prioritizing HS talent with significant projectible upside in hopes of plucking before NIL becomes even more of a disruptive thing.

A redshirt sophomore, Brock slashed .462/.565/.870 and ranked third among national junior college players in hiting, on-base percentage and OPS (1.435) and fourth in slugging. He also was the only 20-20 player at that level, going deep 20 times and swiping 27 bases. He has plus-plus speed, rare for a catcher, and may be able to stay behind the plate. If he can't, he's quick enough to handle center field. He'll transfer to Oklahoma if he doesn't turn pro.

Brendan Brock C/OF Southwestern Illinois. Draws big comparisons to former major leaguer Jayson Werth. Super athletic. Defensive skills for frontline C or OF. Barrels up balls consistently with power. Projects above average ML Player. Committed to Oklahoma ⁦

Brendan Brock C for Southwestern Illinois (Oklahoma commit) frames a strike during a JUCO.Midwest District Game. Brock is a super athlete that makes the game look easy. Plus defensive skills who is one of the top hitters in JUCO Baseball Next level ability. ⁦

Wild to see the Catcher/CF versatility! Whutttt?!? Dinges has created a new type in the system.

Honestly, I think Brock seems like the least singable of these picks. What a crazy ball of untapped upside. That is a peak level of athlete. Maybe the Brewers can lure Him w the Dinges development arc? Just insane athleticism and projection there.

ANother shocker, when the Brewers draft catchers, they draft athletic ones. Brock can play OF or catcher potentially, though the above report is perhaps a little ahead of itself. Brock slashed .378/.478/.573 in the summer leagues with more walks than strikeouts and 12 extra base hits in 115 plate appearances in 2024, and he does show the type of athleticism the Brewers love. I

For SW illinois college (Ginger, again?) he hit .462/.565/.870 with 39 walks, 29 strikeouts and 20 home runs in 260 plate appearances. Clearly too good for the level, he'll be a fascinating professional signing to see how he adapts. Hopefully a lower bonus as he's in his third year with SW Illinois

Yeah I looked him up on twitter and got about 5-6 tweets down and was like no chance this guy signs. Seems like someone who has Day 1 potential if he has a good season at Oklahoma with that size and athleticism at catcher

I think Ginger just has Eastern Illinois so not sure that would be her territory

Feels a bit like Nunnallee last year
