Yup, I'd take that deal in a heartbeat!

Maybe Myers would be a better plan, but I'd let them take their pick between the two.

No thank you from me. He should be strictly a DH and has pretty bad splits.

Trade them back Cortes or Quintana and one of our relievers.

Rice can play a solid 1B. He doesn't need to be strictly a DH

-.4 WAR in 18 games is not solid.

Certainly an upgrade over Bauers and will be a while before he hits arbitration. Prefer this type of deal over sending away a starter with year of control like Patrick or Myers for a rental.

He has 1 OAA and -2 DRS in about 500 career innings at 1B. Thats plenty solid.

A top of rotation starting pitcher for a platoon bat? No thank you.

The top of whose rotation?

Any rotation? He sits 31st among starting pitcher WAR. This isn't a Myers thing where his ERA doesn't match his FIP.

Myers for Rice? That would be a fair exchange I think.

I don’t think the Yankees would give up Rice for Myers.  Would need to add in something else.

Statcast shows Patrick about mid and Rice in multiple reds.  He's 11th in EV  has an xBA of .295.

Say bye to Hoskins, send the Wilken too.  1b of future. DH when Yelich time is up.

Thats a higher ceiling at 26 than Patrick's 26.

He has pitched well this year, but I’m not convinced the underlying skills point to a top of the rotation starter. He hasn’t been great against lefties and has really struggled the third time through the order. I think he looks more like a strong backend starter long term

I guess my question is what is it about Myers that you’d be willing to give him up, but not Patrick? We’re not even a year removed from Myers having the type of rookie season that Patrick is having. He put up 2.7 bWAR over 140ish innings. He scuffled a bit coming back from the injury but appears to be throwing the ball really well in Nashville now

-.3 War in 2024 (49 games) and -.4 War (18 games) is not plenty solid. The Yankees agree as they have been sending out 38 year old Paul Goldschmidt to play first and his defense is below average as well.

I like the idea of trading our pitching depth for controlled hitting. Rice hasn't shown he is more than a platoon batter with poor defense. Rice would be a decent target if you believe in him getting better but I am not giving up Patrick to do it.

For Rice (BTV: 18.1), I would do Quintana (BTV:3.4) and Koenig (BTV: 10.3) or Mears (BTV: 10.8)

You realize what you're citing already starts him as a negative because he's mostly playing 1B and DH which have negative positional adjustments? Vlad Jr has 5 DRS which is 3rd most in MLB for 1B this year but he has 0.0 dWAR because of 1B negative positional adjustment. Yelich has -1.0 dWAR this year despite playing just 76 innings in the field because DH has a negative positional adjustment. Matt Olson is tied for 3rd in MLB in DRS with 14 but is 31st in dWAR because of the negative positional adjustment.

Digging around a few articles about the Yankees discovering him, to leading their minors 2023 season with 183 wrc+.

Kinda feels like a guy they wont trade cheap.  The small sample platoon split this season vs lefties is 680 OPS

He's got late bloomer vibes.  1b/DH positional home only. Prime Age.

LH bat is the better side to be a platoon.  Worth an attempt even if Patrick starts the talks.

Not DL Hall?

I like DL Hall.   I just think we should deal pitchers not starting and maybe unlikely to start next year for a better fit now or in the future.

But yeah swap Hall in for one of the two if you’d like, Turbobuddy.  I’m good with that kind sir.

I don't hate Rice for Myers and a smaller piece. Patrick for Rice and a smaller 2nd piece is bad either.

However I like Adams, Burke, or Bitonti long term.

Rice is better than Bauers... but not much better.

It's really hard to get a read on the value of the Brewers pitchers right now, because simply wearing the Brewers uniform makes them two standard deviations better than if they were wearing any other uniform.

What IS Chad Patrick's value?? Eighteen good big-league starts is a healthy-enough total to start extrapolating, at least a little bit.

Cortes completing four scoreless in Nashville as we speak for his final job before starting for the Brewers.

I wonder if Cortes and Quintana gets us pretty close to Rice.   Could even add Hoskins their way (who they’d then be able to use) if we can figure out the money aspect between owners,
