Perhaps the most intriguing field player sample we've seen all DSL summer is first year 17-year-old Doninican OF Alexander Frias. He began the year injured but has shown out since his return. Two more pokes thru five frames today (2-for-2, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB, 1 CS). Looking back in January post-signing Baseball America had this to say:

Quote

Alexander Frias, OF, Dominican Republic: The Brewers signed Frias—the younger brother of Guardians righthander Luis Frias—for $350,000. He’s 6-foot-3, 180 pounds at 17, with a flat lefthanded swing, a line-drive approach and a track record of frequent hard contact against live pitching. He has a plus arm and the physical projection for that tool to get even stronger, to the point where if he doesn’t hit, he could be an intriguing conversion candidate as a righthanded pitcher.

And, as per usual, our man @Spencer Michaelis has been on this scent for quite a bit:

This is definitely a player we will be keeping our eyes on.

OK. I heard strong whispers last night and have now vetted this through proper channels in Zebulon and Appleton so can break this here:

- INF Josh Adamczewski has been assigned to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers from the Carolina Mudcats. He is reporting to Appleton today.

Finally!!!

Really nice to see OF Frandy LaFond catch a little fire as the season comes to a close. He's gotten on base in 14-of-40 August PA's. OPS is now above 0.900 on the month with his home run today.

OF Kenny Fenelon with a 2-for-4, 1 2B morning. With one game remaining Kenny has reached the Mendoza Line. Sitting at exactly a 0.200 BA. Been a long climb back! Let's root him on to stay here or above after tomorrow's contest.

Where is he going to play?

Has he been playing any 1B in Carolina?

T-Rats are pretty set in the IF with Fischer at 3B, Made at SS, and Pena at 2B.

Cristian Montilla is another who started really slow and has come on strong here to end the season.

.442 OPS in June, .621 OPS in July, 1.022 OPS In August not counting a 3-4 day today.

With the a pair of wins today the two DSL squads' pushed their combined record for the season just onto the right side of the ledger at 55 W - 53 L. Not too shabby for what has been somewhat of a blah summer on the island, but we all knew the insanity of last summer was likely a singularity.

None of Kenny Fenelon (88 wRC+), Brailyn Antunez (82 wRC+), or Cristopher Acosta (78 wRC+) has really popped. Will be interesting to see if they come over to the ACL next year on pedigree alone or if some of them maybe repeat the DSL.

As far as hitters that did put up some numbers would have to imagine that eighteen year olds Juan Martinez (158 wRC+), Jonathan Rangel (148 wRC+), Moises Polanco (130 wRC+), and Angel Gonzalez (128 wRC+) are in pretty good shape for the ACL with Yoneiker Lugo (110 wRC+) and Carlos Done (105 wRC+) probably doing enough to join them.

On the pitching side seventeen year olds Diustin Mayorquin (47 IP of 46 ERA- | 50 FIP-) and Joan Pena (44 IP of 65 ERA- | 77 FIP-) appear to be the likely headliners, and did we just get a Brewers PD highlight reel for Gustavo Garcia (44 IP of 72 ERA- | 85 FIP-) recently too?

A few older arms with decent results in smaller samples might be setting themselves up for stateside relief roles next year? Gabriel Colmenarez (21 IP of 43 ERA- | 56 FIP-) has already made his way over, perhaps Derlin Garcia (19 IP of 37 ERA- | 59 FIP-),  Carlos Canales (23 IP of 47 ERA- | 74 FIP-), or Jhosep Ospino (27 IP of 55 ERA- | 78 FIP-) are next.

Looks like Josh is at a 14 (2B) to 8 (DH) game split since coming back to Carolina so I'd guess he gets like four games a week at 2B and two at DH with Wisco.

Pena/Made get the other two games at 2B, plus all six at SS, plus two at 3B, plus one each at DH to get to a dozen.

Fischer plays the remaining four games a week at 3B with his other two coming at 1B/DH.

Dinges is going to need 2 DH days a week as he's not catching 6 games a week.

I've made this same selfish gripe about 4 times now but AHHHHHHHHHH...

We have one remaining home stand here in Appleton for the season. An infield of Fischer, Made, Pena, Dinges, and Adamczewski is the best thing we will ever have here at one time and we are going to get 6 games of it.

Happy as a Brewers fan. Super salty as an Appleton resident.

Two DH for Dinges, two DH for Josh still leaves two days a week to rotate Made, Pena, Fischer through as needed. Or just play Fischer twice a week at first when he isn't playing third.

Could also give Dinges a whole day off here and there since he's coming off injury and likely hasn't caught this many innings in a long time.

Oh man that pre-DSL Mudcats blitz-to-ACL first month crush was a time. I can't even fathom if we had hit on another International class the way we did in 2024. I was definitely hoping for it! 😅

Right there with you man...

My selfish hope is that they all start out 2026 right here in Appleton, but I know that isn't going to happen.

I'm going to guess that at the very least, Made starts in Biloxi, and it seems they are bound and determined to keep him and Pena climbing together, so that could mean both of them start in Biloxi.

Hadn't noticed this, but very nice to see. He had caught my eye during my pre-signing "scouting" (finding random videos on TikTok and Instagram)
