What the players did in August is irrelevant. It’s what they might add to a roster in a playoff situation. 

Some of the relief pitchers that changed teams at the deadline got off to rocky starts with their new teams and new roles. But if they settle in and provide their teams with a string of strong arms in playoff games those early bad outings will be quickly forgotten  

 

 

I guess I am because I really don’t know what you’re saying. If a deadline pickup hits a 3 run homer to win a playoff game, that trade was worth it? Well sure, but how is that any more predictable than anyone on our current roster doing it?

As far as getting a string of good outings in the playoffs from an acquired pitcher, I am sure that is exactly what the Brewers are hoping to get out of Miller. We did add to the bullpen, even though it may not have been the most conventional trade.

You hate to see any playoff race shift on an injury, but losing Wheeler is absolutely devastating for the Phillies. Arguably more damaging than any other single player in the NL playoff field would have been.
