Muncy option picked up by Dodgers

Interesting.

Does tis mean they will not be in on the Japanese 3B that will be posting.

Ohtani takes up their DH spot, so if they pick up another 3B from Japan, Muncy will be nothing more than bench fodder.  Maybe late inning pinch hitting duties...

Wondering if they may use him for trade bait?  I just can't imagine them not throwing their hat into the ring for one of the Japanese 3B this winter.

Figured someone might as well post this crazy trade idea here:

Insane Trade Idea Has Nationals Sending James Wood to Brewers This Offseason

Obviously, the odds of a deal for James Wood this winter are extremely low, but since this is "hot stove" season with a bunch of crazy, stupid ideas floating out there, let's take a deeper dive into this trade idea.

Personally, I think it would take A LOT more to get Wood away from the Nats with what I believe is 5 years left of team control. It took basically three Top 100 guys (can't remember if Monte Harrison had cracked the top 100 yet after his AFL performance of '17?) and another solid pitching prospect to get Yeli from the Marlins with less years of team control, so I don't think a package of just Pratt and Pena gets this done.  I would guess that we'd have to offer up Pena, Pratt, Henderson and then perhaps someone like Crow or a DeBerry type to even get the Nats considering moving Wood at this stage of his young career.

Curious for other people's thoughts on this crazy trade idea though?

Yeah there's no chance the Nationals would do that trade. Brewers would probably do it in a heartbeat though. Pena and Pratt are both very good prospects but Wood has 5 years of control and has shown he can be a star in MLB with even more upside.

Imagine the lineup you could rock if you traded for Wood.

1. Yelich - DH

2. Chourio - CF/RF

3. Wood - LF

4. Contreras - C

5. Turang - 2B

6. Vaughn - 1B

7. Frelick - CF/RF

8. Durbin - 3B

9. ? - SS

You are probably right however I would guesstimate that he would be in the range of 2-24 to 3-45 after last year, whereas if he had a really good year he could have made a case for like Hader money. So if he wants to bet on himself he could take a 1 year deal to get back to that top tier money. However I will concede that someone like the Dodgers would give him 1/15 guaranteed and in that case and my incentive idea doesn't work.

He could have made that case based on his numbers... no doubt about it. But I can't believe anyone would have come... even close to that. 4/60 would have been the higher end.

Maybe I'm just more skeptical of him, but I believe when you get into the post-season, vs better hitters, if you have ONE plus pitch... even a plus-plus pitch, the best change up in the game, hitters can lay off it enough.

Hader, Diaz... Clause? Worth it. Williams? I'll take Megill or Uribe(though Uribe looks like he may actually be able to put up similar numbers).

Miranda cleared waivers. Pretty surprising the Brewers did not claim him with open roster spots.  2025 was a rough year for him, but he was solid in 2024.  Depth at 3b/1b is a need for the Brewers and all it would cost is a waiver claim to grab him.

At 23, Wood is already one of the worst defensive left-fielders in baseball. Any team that rosters him will need to consider this. The Brewers have shown a willingness to absorb lousy corner defense, so that by itself, isn't a disqualifier, but it certainly would limit their roster construction and roster flexibility.
