Fair or not, I think Yelich bears the brunt of more frustrations than others because as the leader and veteran of the team, he’s kind of one that everyone is looking at and counting on to come through and lift the team up and help spark something.

I would agree that in a vacuum, it’s everyone. Everyone but Chourio, perhaps.

It's far from just Yelich. But yeah, in a big series like this he's one of the people you hope/expect to step up & in this series he's not done so, and in a very uninspiring way. It's a bad time for him to settle into one of his chasing & rollover ground ball stretches.

I wonder if the passel of HRs hit in the previous series has affected the team negatively AFA discipline is concerned. Yeah, we jumped on Boyd early in game one & had success, but people forget that in the very same opening inning we reverted, had some lengthy ABs & that helped turn a 2-3 run inning into 6. It's not even in having to take a ton of pitches, although that's what you want to see if strikes aren't being thrown. Snell & Yamamoto were consistently getting ahead, but I didn't see too much of the so-called 'humble approach' where you commit to going oppo.

In game five vs Chicago, three solo shots but nothing else, and very few baserunners. As challenging as it is, we need to try to start 'moving the line' again, maybe create some havoc on the bases. If a Chourio or a Vaughn or a Contreras leans into one it has to occur w/a runner or two on.

Gotta figure out some way to get into their pen.

If it's one inning, I guess it doesn't matter if it's Ashby or Koenig. They want a lefty, maybe they trust Koenig more in a leverage spot.

The thing that's been tough to understand, all year, is just how often they use Ashby. He's up to like 71 MLB IP this year. Maybe that's not that much, but he's gotten it in a pretty condensed period. Are they anticipating him as a starter next year? Do their analytics just really trust his recovery? I have to think there's some underlying philosophy here, but it's pretty hard to see given that he's pitched (and struggled) as both an opener and a leverage lefty in these playoffs AND pitched in nearly every game.

I'm not upset about this. I am confused/curious. Hopefully, he pitches another clean first, after already being staked to a 5-0 lead.

I think part of it is Ashby has been nothing if not durable. They believe he can handle the workload. So far he has.

The other part is if you get into a tight spot, maybe protecting a late lead, they trust Koenig a little more to come in & throw strikes. Walking Ohtani to open the game might not cost you. Coming in leading by a run w/runners at 1st & 2nd and one out & say, Freeman at the plate is different. You know damn well in that situation, any pitch on the edges Freeman decides not to swing at is going to be called a ball unless the count is 3-0.

Reading about the off-season plans for the Yankees, Phillies, and Cubs was a great way for me to recover from the first two games, and get fired up for this early tilt. After the Brewers win, I may even watch the AL game.

.388 OPS w/.263 OBP

One run scored

The problem is Yelich, Frelick, Durbin, and Turang have been similarly bad.

Wow. Worse than I thought.

I'd argue Ortiz hasn't been a big problem. He's been on base in all but one or two games. He's obviously bad, but it's the other guys that are actually good hitters that we need more hitting from.

Ump saying strike off the plate makes it really tough on Vaughn

Really hosed him with that first strike call.

Some contact at least, somewhat of a threat at least. Another useless AB by Brice Turang. If you’re going to do a matrix like move to get out of the way of a ball to cost us game 1, at least come back to contribute later.
