Looks like Leonard peaked around May 12th at 140 PA of 350/432/608 (171 wRC+) with a 9.3 BB% and 16.4 K% under the hood (along with a .391 BABIP)

Since then he had 148 PA of 229/313/405 (87 wRC+) with a 10.1 BB% and 21.6 K% under the hood (along with a .258 BABIP).

Greg Jones only got 2 PA during his last brief call up so not sure what difference it really would have made when Leonard had already been pretty unimpressive for the last two months now.

My point wasn’t that Leonard over Jones would have made some sort of difference in the W/L column.

My point was if you have two guys who you consider expendable AAAA types and you need one up for a warm body for a few days before DFAing, pick the more versatile guy who has never had an MLB debut before, has earned it with his play in the minors, isn’t vested into MLB healthcare, and would probably have a great appreciation for it. Don’t pick the guy you already picked earlier this season who already fell flat on his face with his opportunity. 

And if they had gone this route, they’d still have Jones in the minors for minor league depth.

There are assumptions being made over what was/wasn't said and talked about in the FO and between FO and player. 

Unless facts are known, isn't it easier to create a favorable scenario rather than create a negative one?

I'll make one up quick.

They promoted Jones for a few days knowing they would DFA him as soon as a replacement elsewhere became available or when Hamilton was back, keeping Leonard as depth and giving Jones an option to be claimed to get an opportunity elsewhere. Then when they acquired Shewmake -> Leonard asked for his release to see if there was another opportunity available to him. If so, best of luck and thank you. If not, resign a MiLB deal and come back in a week.

We did this same thing already this year with both Strzelecki and Waguespack. 

Of course you could be right and the Brewers fumbled him away. But I can only assume if he has trade value he would have been dealt already... So isn't the above scenario both ethical in trying to preserve depth for the team but also doing right by the players to give them him a chance elsewhere if it wasn't to be here?

The only thing that makes sense is the Brewers did not believe in Leonard's defense. He is not a SS, so maybe that's why they traded for Shewmake.  The Greg Jones callup was just odd though.
