Look at all those guys! (fangraphs sorted by wRC+) What a fun start to the minor league season for these prospects. The T-Rats and Shuckers are a most watch/follow everyday!

Obviously only 61 early season unsustainable PA so but still pretty wild to see Braylon Payne with matching .429 ISO and BABIP marks.

Braylon Payne just kind of seems a little bit of a fluke right now. I am sorry to be a pessimist. He is very Garrett Mitchell like. However I do acknowledge, he is 19 and Mitchell was already 3 yrs older at this level with the Timber Rattlers. The swing looks like it has the same holes to it.

I am growing concerned about his Z-Contact% (68.8% season) he is not making near enough contact on pitches inside the zone. This is a major red flag to me.

On the plus side he has shown elite plate discipline this year O-Swing% (17.9%) his ratio of BB% to K% is pretty healthy too. Batted ball profile is solid as well. He is quite a polarizing prospect.

I'm glad you said this, because it's exactly how I feel about Payne. Very cautiously optimistic about his start, but need to see if he can make more contact as he continues to move up.

This is also why I'm actually not all that happy with Fischer's start in High A. The counting stats look nice, but underneath the hood is rough. Running a 58% contact rate, which is pretty awful. If you thought he would be a fast riser to the Majors this season, this start has squashed that dream.

I love the close to 50-50 K to BB ratios for many of these kids.

Theoretical to anyone who'd like to take a stab: Let's say Made, Pena & Pratt all stay in the organization. One obviously plays SS; who is it & where do the other two get moved to?

I've wondered the same thing. I decided 3b goes to the guy with the most raw power and they just have him put on another 20 lbs of muscle. With trainers and dieticians these days that wouldn't be too much of an ask.

But really I think one or two will end up either traded for two months of a playoff run, or traded to add the high-end pitching prospect we lack. I really don't like trading prospects for the playoffs, but trading prospect excess for thinner prospect needs makes sense.

Yeah, I asked it under the assumption they'd all stay because it's an interesting conundrum. But you're right, there's always a chance one of them gets moved. If so, I'd also much rather it be for pitching depth in an off-season move.

I would guess we wouldn't have one arm in the updated top 10 besides Henderson lol.

Maybe Bryce Meccage can crack it at some point if his command improves, or Childers if he continues to shock the world (I know; he's already 25). But right now you're right.

I think trading one of these guys for a rental is the absolutely least likely outcome. It's been 10 years with the Stearns/Arnold regime, and trading true top prospects for rentals is something they've never really done, and something that doesn't really line up with everything else they do. They have traded some pretty decent prospects (Who turned into solid major leaguers) for rentals in the past, like Dubon and Olson, and that might continue. But I think that's different from the Mades and Peñas of this world. Brewers can't sign star players, and trading for proven quality players long-term is rare (Yelich and Contreras are not the norm!), so for a proper WS run, they need to develop them. So players like Made and Peña who both have that star potential as well as a skillset that should make them useful players even if they don't hit their max potential, are guys you keep.

So I'd expect those guys to either be with the major league team, or if they trade their top prospects it'll be like the Yelich trade, i.e long term. I think, though, that with such a strong farm and so many top prospects, they could be more aggressive with the prospects the tier below them, and particularly players who don't have the tools to be stars.
