Bailey Ober starts for Minnesota riding momentum from a complete game two-hitter against Miami. The right-handed soft-tosser commands six pitches including a "fastball" that averages just 88.6 mph. Ober faced Milwaukee twice in 2023, allowing two earned runs in each start. source

Milwaukee goes with lefthander Robert Gasser, making his Brewers season debut and eighth career big league start. Gasser turns 27 this month and averaged 13.3 K/9 over six starts at Nashville this year.

Today is going to be overcast and windy - not sure of it’ll be blowing in, out, or across, but maybe good practice for Chicago. Supposed to rain later in the afternoon - shouldn’t be a problem unless we get a game going over 3.5 hours.

I’m expecting multiple innings from the low leverage bullpen arms today. We’ve set up the rotation with two spot starts this weekend to get ready for Cubs and Dodgers next week, so probably looking to set up the bullpen, too. Feels like they might sacrifice this one for the greater good - unless the offense unexpectedly rises to the occasion.

Yeah I imagine the plan for today is going to be like yesterday; Gasser and Woodford for most, or all, of the game. Anderson and Drohan pitching an inning each perhaps, if needed. Would set them up nicely for the Cubs series. I wonder what they'll do with Gasser after this start though. Won't strictly need a 5th starter until the 27th if my math is correct. They might still want a 5th starter in order to keep them on an extra day of rest in which case he might stick around. But I suspect it'll be Patrick making that extra start at some point if needed, and Gasser being optioned for an extra bullpen arm.

Ober seems like a pitcher who will either no hit the Brewers or allow eight runs. He seems like an outlier, especially by RHP standards. Kyle Hendricks usually gave us fits, I think.

Vaughn is 5-23 against Ober with 2HR in his career. Yelich is 3-6. No one else has more than 3 career at bats against him

Assuming we get the Mitchell, Hamilton, Bauers trio today. Sanchez caught yesterday so probably a Vaughn DH day with Bill behind the plate.

Betting odds that Chourio swings at the first pitch of the game is -220 in my book.
