Well, this series has been less fun than others. What do you think of Gasser and his future in the Brewers' rotation?

Before anyone freaks out at Vaughn being out of the lineup, which imagine is going to happen, consider that Atlanta’s OF is relatively cavernous. You don’t really Bauers out there, which means Vaughn is unfortunately the odd man out against the righty starter.

I'm sorry but that's just stupid.

Not wanting to let routine outs and singles to turn into hits and XBHs is stupid?

Against RHP, Frelick and Vaughn are statistically the same hitter. Thus, defense and range becomes a tiebreaker at a park like this.

I think part of the difficulty with Vaughn in this case is that his splits this season against lefties are just so ridiculous that it throws off our intuitions about the down side of the platoon. .467/.569/.810 makes MVP Bonds look second best.

After already beating plenty of good teams this year, there is no reason to over interpret two 1-run losses on the road. Each teams batted ball luck could have easily fallen differently and split those 2 games.

So far my take for the first two games is the braves played exceptionally solid baseball.

If Can you play defense like they did the first two games and don't walk anybody You're going to be hard to beat.

The first two games of the series felt like playoff level baseball.  I can't say for sure because living in South Carolina -- (200 MILES -- 4 HOURS) from the stadium -- I'm in the Atlanta market and am blacked out.

So -- you see -- things could be worse...

(First post -- sure I'm getting dinged for this)

No one is freaking out, it's par for the course, and now fully expected.  Right handed pitcher, Vaughn sits.

No need to make excuses about the large outfield either, right handed pitcher, Vaughn sits.  Big OF or little OF, he sits against righties.

Not the same hitter.

Vaughn has the capability to hit one out of the park, or for doubles power.  Frelick has the ability to pop out weakly while going down on a knee, or ground out.  When he comes to the plate, we hope and pray he sprays something into the OF for a base hit.  When Vaughn comes to the plate, there is opportunity for game changing power.

Not the same hitter, not at all.

Did you take your Prozac today?

I understand the Vaughn thing is officially a thing. It's unfortunate. The lineup doesn't remotely look as scary with Frelick Pratt Hamilton bottom three. I'm genuinely shocked Pratt hasn't missed a start yet. Murphy must be under strict orders.

Murph is waiting for him to hit his first homer, then bench him the following day...

Family around for Father’s Day activities today so I will not be watching the game

Maybe checking the score once in a while and hoping for a surprise in the form of Gasser keeping them in the game and/or the offense breaking the three run barrier.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Looking at both lineups the major difference is HRs.  Braves have 100 we have 67. BAs and OPSs are reasonably close.

Braves have hit 4 HRs in the series and the Crew have 0.

The spacious OF down there is definitely a thing. Going into the series it looked for all the world you were going to have games like the first two--relatively low-scoring, with a need for being as air tight as possible. We lost Friday due to a poor performance w/RISP despite 11 hits---and largely due to two outstanding defensive plays by Eli White, who is definitely a glove-first OF. Yesterday it was a 9th inning BP failure.

Me, I'd probably roll with Bauers in RF & Vaughn at 1B. But it shouldn't take much to understand the risk there.

If you throw out his start in the Las Vegas Bouncy House, Gasser has allowed 1 run in his last 10.1 innings. The offense has broken the three-run barrier plenty this season.

Neither may perform today, but if they did it wouldn't be a surprise.

Damn, would have won that challenge Jackson...  I know, using one in the first inning is probably not wise...
