Brewers vs Pirates Doubleheader, 7/11/26: Game 1 (Sproat vs Ashcraft, 11:05am) | Game 2 (Drohan vs Chandler, 3:05pm)

Sproat is basically Freddy Peralta.  The first three innings can be a wild guessing game of which version you are going to get.  Sometimes he will be pitching ahead and then all of a sudden it's 3-2 on three straight noncompetitive pitches.  When he is rolling he feels unhittable and just rolls through the lineup to later then hiccup and gets ahead of a batter and then some how walks or gives up a base hit on a very hittable pitch.

The Brewers basically traded for a younger version of the pitcher they had in Peralta.

It is hard for me to recall how bad Corbin Burnes was the year he had an ERA over 9 before he became a Cy Young winner.

I remember many people suggesting Burnes had “great stuff” (one of my least favorite baseball phrases) when the results weren’t there.

My hope is Brandon Sproat takes the Corbin Burnes journey to success. He’s a “difficult watch” this year. Hope next year is the breakout season.

We need Sproat to give us six innings. It doesn’t look promising for him to cover more than four today. He’s all over the place & throwing far too many uncompetitive pitches.

Think we need to pump the breaks on Sproat’s big breakout.

For the other old guys here, Sproat reminds me a lot of 1987ish Chris Bosio.

Hopefully it works out similarly.

Sproat probably should be game two. Matching him with Ashcraft is no win situation

Are we sure about this?

My god.

I still like his stuff. Nothing was hard hit.

He has hit 3 batters, thrown a wild pitch, and walked two, all in less than 3 innings.

You don’t need to give up any hard contact at all to get hurt when your command is that bad.

This is a build the plane while you fly it sort of thing with Sproat ... and hopefully it pays off next year. It's like pulling teeth this year, though! Bryse may have a say in today's outcome!

Ok.

First Brewers game?

Bro. You don't like it? Keep scrolling. Now don't you have to do laundry or something? If you got a Sproat parlay good luck. He looks great.

Watching Brewers baseball at 11 o'clock in the morning. What is this world coming too?

You get to do it again tomorrow if you have Peacock

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Sproat suffering from postponed game reset. Amped up for yesterday but a rain-out.
HBPs, Pitch timer violations, can’t find edges, foul balls every other pitch…

a predictable bad day

Tell this to Stearns who thinks he's Roger Clemens.

Or he kind sucks a lot of outings.      Which can also be predictable.  Just hold them here for another inning while we have to come back.   AGAIN

You’re giving Sproat too much credit. He’s 26.

Peralta was a 22 and 23 year old kid 22 the last time he turned in an ERA over 5 or walked more than 4 batters per 9. Peralta struck out more batters per 9 and kept the ball in the park better too.

Sproat has a live arm, but he has sucked for the Brewers. He’d probably be working on his game at AAA had the other starters stayed healthy.

Sproat has some good outings, has good stuff at times, and then takes a step back with his command and has bad outings.

Look, he’s now going into the AS break with a 5.16 ERA. He’s a 5. He’s pitched like a 5 all season. Is it possible he becomes more? Sure, and it’s still possible that Joey Ortiz becomes an All-Star. The reality is that it’s far more likely that Sproat is just a 5 than he ever becomes Corbin Burnes.

We need to stop with that comparison because it’s just the highest of high end outcomes and few guys ever reach that point. The Brewer pitching lab, as good as they are, cannot just miracle any pitcher that they like with good stuff into an ace.
