You’re giving Sproat too much credit. He’s 26.

Peralta was a 22 and 23 year old kid 22 the last time he turned in an ERA over 5 or walked more than 4 batters per 9. Peralta struck out more batters per 9 and kept the ball in the park better too.

Sproat has a live arm, but he has sucked for the Brewers. He’d probably be working on his game at AAA had the other starters stayed healthy.

I mentioned no stats and brought up how both of them pitch.  Both Peralta and Sproat will be pitching ahead and then all of a sudden the count will be at 3-2 and the at bat then ends with both pitchers throwing 7+ pitches.

I'm not even sure why I am responding to you as you are just contrarian to be contrarian.

Good on you. You could say Peralta is effectively wild, and Sproat is just wild. But to suggest they’re substantially similar is false, plain and simple.

Getting Lara plenty of ABs has not been a problem early on, as some were worried about.

I know of a certain leadoff hitter/DH who could stand to give up some ABs to help…👀

He pitched 3 whole innings. Great outing. Stop pretending I'm wrong.

What are you on about?

You said it was a no-win situation.

I'll ask again:  you sure about that?

Sproat has some good outings, has good stuff at times, and then takes a step back with his command and has bad outings.

Look, he’s now going into the AS break with a 5.16 ERA. He’s a 5. He’s pitched like a 5 all season. Is it possible he becomes more? Sure, and it’s still possible that Joey Ortiz becomes an All-Star. The reality is that it’s far more likely that Sproat is just a 5 than he ever becomes Corbin Burnes.

We need to stop with that comparison because it’s just the highest of high end outcomes and few guys ever reach that point. The Brewer pitching lab, as good as they are, cannot just miracle any pitcher that they like with good stuff into an ace.

I call it the frank kaminsky rule.   Every time I want to give up on a player I always tell myself “be patient, member what frank the tank became”.     And then I think to myself how ridiculously unlikely that is

thats the same as using the Corbin burnes analogy

What are the odds that Lara/Pratt/Frelick hit 3 XBH in a row again? Ever?

I would say it's an absolute given, provided they are back to back to back in the lineup.

Lara creating competition is paying dividends already. Who wants to play today?

In addition to creating competition it seems like these young rookies come up into the bigs with less pressure when they have the full confidence of the organization and have their future secured.

He has hit 3 batters, thrown a wild pitch, and walked two, all in less than 3 innings.

You don’t need to give up any hard contact at all to get hurt when your command is that bad.

I completely understand what you are saying. He has control issues and he’s probably getting sent down. He does have good stuff. Maybe he will never be able to find control. Hopefully the lab can help him figure it out.

I’d be more amendable if he said Sproat was a “poor man’s Freddy.”

If Sproat ends up appearing in two AS games and finishing top 5 in Cy Young voting I’d be happy to admit I was wrong about him.

Watching Brewers baseball at 11 o'clock in the morning. What is this world coming too?

It's like when I was living in California and watching the Packers play at 10:00 in the morning.

Hey, I hope so too. What a boost it would be for the pitching staff.
