This goes under the "I have no idea about all the contextual factors Matt Arnold has intimate knowledge of" category.

Surprised/not surprised to see Yoho go. It was clear the org didn't think his stuff could play, even last year when he was tearing up the minors and the big-league pen needed arms. The changeup is good enough that I thought they'd give him some leash, but not so good I had a lot of hope for him to become a high-leverage reliever. 

Naylor isn't that far removed from being a 1.5 win player despite hitting poorly. He's only 26, will cost almost nothing in arb, and has 3 yrs of theoretical control after this one. Heuer seems like...a guy. Maybe he's a guy the Brewers can turn into something, though, I don't know. He's done more in his career so far than Yoho, so I guess there's that?

So long to Blake Perkins, a guy I enjoyed having around. Best of luck to him. I hope he can get a little offense back and stick around the bigs. He's just not valuable enough to remain on a roster that's going to have a lot of OFs the Brewers have more investment in. 

Doubt this is the final move the Brewers make, but they obviously see some marginal benefit to increasing their catching depth and adding an arm with MLB experience. Doubt it moves the needle, but it's cheap. I know we get attached to guys like Yoho (myself included), but there's probably guys like that in every system in baseball.

He's pretty far down the ladder obviously, but I think they like him quite a bit. Having a guy at his age catching at the full-season level at age 19 says something because you can always find an organizational-type to fill that role if they feel he can't handle it. So I believe he's someone they have hopes for.

I rate the trade a "whatever". We get ourselves a backup catcher for next year if needs be for two AAAA guys who were only going to see the Majors in a break-glass emergency, anyway. Sure Yoho could be great, but we can say that about pretty well every young player, just as we can say that about Naylor if we can manage to tweak whatever needs tweaking. Or he's AAA depth. Either way, whatever.

That's a spot-on assessment of Perkins IMO. I would've bet the house the Brewers would leave him at AAA after Lockridge returned & eventually release him; in no way did I see him involved in a trade. But OTOH yeah, he's definitely been useful & has been instrumental in wins over the past few years, mostly with the glove but with the bat a couple of times----the 3 run HR off Sanchez back in June opened up that game.

This was inevitable, but he had his moments. Best of luck to him & Yoho in Cleveland.

This led me to a trip down memory lane. In 1977, Jamie Quirk put up a 58 OPS+ while getting more of his starts at DH than at any position.  In 1982, Charlie Moore was the starting rightfielder on a pennant-winning team. 

We complain so much about the org’s real or imagined failures to squeeze every ounce of value out of each roster spot. Well, back in the day, teams were like “we have six or seven guys we like; let’s just throw whomever’s in the room out there until we get to nine.”
