"A baserunning mistake by Bauers"

Was Erickson giving him the stop sign?

If they know that the RF doesn't have a good/accurate arm, it's not a mistake.

Would've bet a lot of money I would never say "where would we be without Jake Bauers?" But here I am.

He should be hitting 3

The usual suspects starting a little rally.

Chourio walking and Vaughn coming through against the righty isn't as usual as Id like it to be.  But Ill take it.

I wonder if a "best record in baseball" team has been hated by its fanbase as much as this one is.

No one hates the team,

I think the hate is directed at the front office, and Murphy more-so lately.

Murphy and his bad game time decision making, ridiculous line-ups (Yelich and Hamilton MUST play no matter what), and the FO blundering the trade deadline.

Once we lost out on Skubal, we should have threw in the cards and gone at it with what we have.  Compounding the loss of Skubal by throwing Ragsdale and Frias out in the garbage can was pretty deflating, even more than losing out on Skubal as far as I'm concerned.  May and Romero don't really offer us anything we didn't already have on our roster.  We could have kept throwing out guys like Crow on occasion to lighten the load on our starters, we didn't need to add a starting pitcher that just isn't going to be that making it to the world series type of player. Romero on the IL for at least two weeks isn't a good look either.

If it was up to this collective board, most of this team wouldn't be on this roster.

Hey no problem, I'm here to try to educate some of you. I realize not many here thought it was a big deal they didn't get Skubal, in fact many didn't even want him, but I can assure you all the players did, and it's obvious some of you also don't understand the psychological side of baseball either. It has an effect and it's a real thing. lest we forget what happened when they traded Hader.

I hate that he got another start. We need to beat this average Pirates team at some point. Sproat is supposed to be talented, but he’s been a nothing burger all season. I’m sick of him getting starts.

Bubba Chandler hasn't been very good this year either, but we sure made him look like an ace tonight!

It appears there were no good bats available and if thats the case so be it but how can you expect to win a championship with this punchless lineup.

What impact hitter was traded today that we might have been interested in?  Garcia?

I just don't think anyone was trading hitting.

Not going to quite the whole post but disagree with Turbo. This games shows how much better this team can be with May vs a guy like Sproat. He obviously isn't Skubal but solidifies this rotation for rest of the year and into the playoffs.

We probably will lose Bauers next year because of the Yelich contract. I’d much rather “eat” the bad contract, release the aging underperforming player, & sign Bauers to a three year extension.

A lot to like about the pirates lineup.

They've been bad for a decade, it's about time those high draft picks amounted to something.

May is better than Sproat, no doubt about it.

But this team has the best record in baseball, at least that is what we are told on the daily in this forum, so adding a guy like May, when we already have a good playoff starting rotation just wasn't that important.

Will he help us, sure, he will, that is pretty obvious, but did we need to trade the likes of Ragsdale and Frias for a guy when we already had Miz, Harrison, Henderson, Drohan, Gasser, as our starting 5.  Sproat has no business in our rotation any longer, that is obvious.

Crow can be our #6 for Sproat if needed.

I'm not against getting May at all, and sometimes it comes off that way, I'm against what we gave up to get him.

Well, I think it would be pretty damn dangerous to expect Bauers to be the 2026 Bauers the next three years.  I hate to lose him, but I don't want to pay for 2026 Bauers for the next three seasons.  What is he looking at, 3 years at 36-40 million?  More? Based on this season, he deserves it, but I don't want to pay it.
