embarrassed to be a fellow brewer fan the last few weeks

what a soft, stick up the as$, fan base here. how many of you are "sports journalists" for your local high school?

Milwaukee just doesn't have the talent at too many positions to be any kind of threat for the W.S...  Yelich is washed up and they are stuck with him for the next two years. Contreras, Chourio, Turang, Vaughn. Someone earlier asked about who you'd be confident having up w/a runner on 3rd & one out in the playoffs. Last year during the lions' share of the season many would've mentioned any of the above four. You need at least a couple of those four on a given day, you need Pratt to get back ASAP, and you need Lara to find whatever it is Pratt found that raised his confidence level. That at least surrounds Bauers with some help. It would also help if Mitchell's hot-cold act goes hot again. And some of the less-is-more approach I mentioned from hitters when there are runners on base, esp with less than two out.

I'm not sure re the hitting coaches either. An awful lot of this IMO is mental. I DO think it's funny that Vogelbach gets so much poison on here, probably because folks don't know the names of the other two (Eric Theisen, Guillermo Martinez).

Other than Lara who has no track record to speak of, none of the above things are pie-in-the-sky wishful thinking. But fans love to jump on bandwagons, and during times like these many like to jump down empty elevator shafts.

Couldn't agree more. I know your Uribe threw some serious pitches over the weekend, but 3 days off is a bit much.

Imagine coming up with this line the day May throws a gem and they couldn't score enough to make it matter while responding to a post about needing more offens.........

It wasn't a binary choice.  They could have chosen to also aquire a bat.  They didn't.

The post was more directed at the fact that the OP brought up Romero (currently on the IL) and Senzatela (who struggled), but ignored May (who has been excellent in two starts since being acquired). 

Could the Brewers have used another bat? Yes. Was there any bats dealt at the deadline who would have made a difference in this lineup? Perhaps, but I'm kinda leaning no. But to ridicule the team for the moves they made as a whole, without even mentioning one which has worked out very well so far, comes off as somewhat curious.

I think a response like the one you made without addressing the OPs actual point is curious.  It is possible to be happy about the May acquisiton and still be unhappy that the two relievers were the only other pieces acquired.  I happen to line up with that line of thinking.  If the FO is as smart as all beleive them to be, they knew they needed a bat.  It's MAs job to figure that out.

Where did I say that wasn't possible? I think we are closer to agreeing that you probably think. My ONLY point was to point out the irony (perhaps in a way that had a twinge too much snark) of the OP's post mentioning Skubal, while ignoring the starter who the team actually acquired and who has been better than Skubal through two starts.

The “problem” with the way the Brewers are constructed is that they aren’t a top heavy, bottom light lineup where you have massive black holes that are screaming to be replaced. In the past that would have been Ortiz, but with his breakout I think many have more trust in him than many of the others. 

But for what we have, it’s basically deep but unspectacular. You can sub out Contreras for Sanchez any day and it doesn’t really change anything. You can do Frelick for Lara when he returns but again it’s another lateral move for the most part. You can go Ortiz or Hamilton and it’s just not really a big difference. 

For the most part, these are the types of guys that get moved at the deadline and they just aren’t needle movers compared to the guys above that they would replace. To make acquiring a bat worthwhile you have to get one that is a clear upgrade and takes away ABs from a clearly inferior option. For us the only real clear everyday candidate for that is Yelich. We can argue all day about the political reasons or whatever that that isn’t going to happen, but we all know they aren’t going that route. At least not in 2026. 

Sure, if CJ Abrams or Otto Lopez was brought in, they’re clear upgrades. However the fact that these high end controllable players were not moved is a pretty clear indication that they were not realistically available.
