Monday's Birthdays:

RHP Wenderlyn King, who recently made his Wilson debut, turns 21.

Utilityman Roderick Flores, four years into his Brewers tenure, two years in the DSL, two in Maryvale, turns 20. Flores primarily played first base in 2026 despite his listed 5'9" stature (likely in need of updating). Flores posted an .864 OPS with Maryvale this past season.

Tuesday's Birthday:

RHP Cesar Espinal turns 21 one day after his Wilson teammate King.

Did they mess with the ball again in AA? Biloxi has really struggled recently.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Here's some benign Brewers Minor League news:

vintage publishing GIF by US National Archives

The Milwaukee Brewers will be a part of the Scottsdale Scorpions roster in this year's AFL season. They will add to a roster also filled with players from the Tigers, Astros, Giants, and Rays. Can we repeat? I think we can!

It’s AFL time already?

I understand the proximity to the Big League ballpark. BUT, why not send Uribe and Romero to Biloxi for a week? 🤭

In this economy? With that center field camera?

Nope. BUT, they did announce the team compositions (ie org assignments) today as well as the schedule. They won't announce which players orgs are sending to the desert until after the Minor League seasons complete.

Was more joking that the year is nearly over when it feels like it just started.

Oh. Gotcha! Yeah, it's kind of nuts eh? Baseball coverage and interest literally is a year round affair. It's pretty bananas. I wonder if the Brewers revisit the Aussie League this winter or if last year indicated their done with the overseas project.

Yes and hopefully cooler weather here in AZ.  But the AFL might be a bit of a wet one this year.  Well wet in terms of AZ wet weather.

More fun news:

HINT: The Brewers come in ranked Numero Uno.

How deep is the Brewers minor league infield pool? They mentioned ten prospects in the article who are all in the org Top Twenty and you could still make a whole other infield out of intriguing guys they have outside the Top 25...

1B Bitonti (#26 | 434 PA of 126 wRC+ at A+ | 22 HR / 22 SB)
2B O'Rae (UR | 394 PA of 113 wRC+ at AA | 50 SB)
SS Dickinson (UR | 447 PA of 127 RC+ at A+ | 51 SB)
3B Matos (UR | 228 PA of 149 wRC+ in DSL | 10 HR / 19 SB)
UT Ortuno (UR | 455 PA of 108 wRC+ at A | 37 SB)

Low-A Wilson hosts Rangers’ affiliate Hickory this week, with the teams playing a quasi-doubleheader today.

The opening game will see the Warbirds as the road team, leading 6-0 with a 2-0 count and 2 outs in the 1st inning.

SS Brady Ebel (now a Timber Rattler) earned that 2-0 count back on July 19 and may simply hand it over to his brother Trey, which would have to be one of the most unique professional baseball substitutions ever.

SS Trey Ebel will in fact finish his big brother Brady’s July 19 plate appearance, inheriting a 2-0 count with runners on the corners, 2 outs and a 6-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, as Wilson kick off today’s doubleheader and this week’s series against Hickory.

Antunez, Jones and Di Turi also enter the lineup as substitutes. RHP Jarrette Bonet (5.14 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 8.0 K/9 in 103.1 IP) gets the start.

Always love starting a game up 6-0 before the first pitch. Yay!

Checking in on the DSL semis...the Giants Black fell again today and lose their best of three to the Padres Gold with a 2-0 sweep (8-3 loss today). On the other side of the bracket, we see the DSL Reds sweep the Royals Fortuna as well taking both games (4-2 victory for the sweep today). These two teams will now get rest days until their three game Finals set begins Friday.

From "Ro" in Sunday's Link Report:

"(Jihwan) Bae (2-for-3, HR, 3 RBIs) exited alongside an “injury delay” note after singling in the top of the 4th inning, so we’ll have to monitor his status going forward."

Archive for subscribers (01:12:45 hour/minute mark):

Hard collision at first base on the infield hit as the toss to first brought the first baseman onto the bag as if he were a refrigerator waiting for Bae to run into, and boy, did he ever. Bae's body was immediately tossed back and dropped with his head falling back onto the dirt (Bae's helmet was knocked off prior to impact with the ground).

That was nasty, Bae made it off the field under his own power.

AAA Nashville aim for a 4th straight win, this time as they commence their series at Marlins’ affiliate Jacksonville. LHP Colton Gordon makes his 7th start (4 IP, 4 R, 3 Ks last week) since being acquired. C Bo Naylor has 3 homers and 8 RBIs during his 5-game hitting streak.

22-year old RHP Peyton Niksch makes his 2nd start (4 IP, 1 R, 3 Ks last week) for AA Biloxi, who need to turn over a new leaf after losing 16 of their last 17 games. They host Cubs’ affiliate Knoxville this week. RF Damon Keith has a .788 OPS in 14 games since returning from injury.

After winning the first game of today’s doubleheader against Hickory, LHP Joey Broughton (4.92 ERA, 1.70 WHIP. 9.0 K/9 in 53 IP) gets the start in Game 2, a 7-inning affair. CF Brailyn Antunez has a 9 or 10-game hitting streak (depending on if we count Game 1 today).

Scary situation tonight in Appleton, it appeared that Brady Ebel got physically knocked out in a collision with Daniel Dickinson.  Took a while, and he was on the ground motionless for a bit, but did walk off the field on his own eventually.

I'm sure concussion protocol is going to follow.  Looked pretty bad.
