Playoffs on TBS

So we all know the playoffs this year are going to be on TBS, for some time however I've been wondering about HD. Well on the Braves/Cards broadcast they just had an ad run about that, and they said catch the playoffs on TBS in HD. I didn't think TBS had an HD channel, anyone know how this is going to work out?

I have no clue how this might be handled, but if the powers in charge were smart, they'd use TNT's high definition channel. People already have that one available, and I'd have to think that TBS would certainly have the right to utilize it.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

TBS is launching an HD channel Sept. 1. Whether or not your carrier picks up the channel before the playoffs remains to be seen.

No, ESPN lost the postseason TV rights to TBS. All four divisional series will be on TBS, with a few games switching to TNT when they overlap. TBS will air the NLCS and FOX will air the ALCS. These series will switch every year, so next year TBS will get the ALCS and FOX will get the NLCS. FOX, as always, will get the World Series. Starting next year, TBS will no longer air Braves games. Instead, they'll air weekly Sunday afternoon games.

Here is the postseason TV schedule.

odd. i'm surprised that ESPN lost their rights to postseason baseball. They air little league, bowling, pool, and fishing, but they don't have postseason baseball anymore?

"Hate on little league, pool, and fishing (and throw in poker and WNBA too, please), but lay off the bowling! "

to hate on bowling is un-American

It's going to feel weird watching MLB Playoffs on TBS and TNT, I just hope TNT remembers that it's baseball not basketball, the last thing I need to hear/see is Stephen A. Smith saying anything about baseball.

don't get me wrong, i love to bowl. I'd just rather see the NLCS than bowling.

ESPN held the rights to all of the non-FOX LDS games because ABC, the parent network of ESPN, purchased FOX Family, which broadcasted a portion of the LDS games a number of years ago. So, the contract expired, and TBS gained rights to all LDS games, and one LCS series. FOX loses quite a few games, but IIRC, they agreed to this because, under their new deal, they broadcast Sat. games from the beginning of the season and only have to use one broadcasting team (Buck and McCarver) during the postseason.

Anyways, I look forward to the postseason on TBS because if they can do a better job than ESPN with the NBA Playoffs, then it's certain that their MLB postseason telecasts will be top notch.

TBS has had an HD channel for quite some time. Then again, I live in Atlanta, so I guess that would explain why I've gotten it for so long and my Milwaukee brethren have not.

But you guys get to watch the Brewers, and I have to follow MLB Gameday.

I actually really enjoy the statistical overlays & quite a bit about TBS's presentation. Plus, we won't have to put up with all the dumbed-down crap from ... That network is to baseball coverage what a housefly is to soup. TBS's announcers have a tendency to lull me to sleep, but I'll bet they'll bring in some others just for the playoffs. But to be honest, anything is better than Joe "I'm more important than the game" Buck. GAWD that guy sucks. I wish there was some way he could not be the one calling any playoff games...

Sheesh, thought TBS'd get somebody good - or at least with name recognition! It seems they'll just lean on their set of Carays for the play-by-play, but I'd have to imagine there'll be another one or two pbp guy(s), given the numerous playoff locales.

I know it would be unorthadox and make for some pretty painful TV sometimes but it would be fun to see announcers of different teams together. Sometimes you would get teams with very poor chemistry, but I think sometimes it would make for some very entertaining television.

I'd rather see the NLCS than a Packer game, but I wouldn't lump Packer games into the same category as fishing and pool. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
