What's in your CD player?

Wow, that just defined the majority of the music threads around here!

I gotta go talk to my parents and see what my lineage is, because Gyp just settled it, I'm not white (at least as far as #41 is concerned).

Does that article include obscure punk and obscure heavy metal? Or are the white fans of that type of music immune to such things?

Touche. I realize I haven't exactly been posting Britney Spears and Kanye West myself.

Gyp, I've never really listened to "punk" music. None of my friends are into it and I guess I'm not sure where to even start. Any suggestions on some classic albums to start with from the 70's or 80's?

As far as great punk albums go I'll start with just American and I'll say

"The Ramones" by The Ramones

"Back From Samoa" by the Angry Samoans,

"Milo Goes to College" by the Descendents

"Attitude- the ROIR Sessions" by Bad Brains

"Damaged/Jealous Again" by Black Flag

"GI" by the Germs

"Dirty Rotten LP" by D.R.I.

"Complete Discography" by Minor Threat

"Young Loud & Snotty" by the Dead Boys

"Walk Together Rock Together" by 7 Seconds

"Break Down the Walls" by Youth of Today

"Sorry Ma Forgot to Take Out the Trash" by the Replacements

"1980-1986" by the Dicks

"Murphy's Law" by Murphy's Law

"Out of Vogue EP" by Middle Class

"Millions of Dead Cops" by MDC

"New Day Rising" by Husker Du

"Los Angeles" by X

"Is This My World" by Jerry's Kids

I'm probably forgetting some crucial piece of the puzzle here but that's a good start.

If it includes metal, I'm back to being white! A non-hipster white, that is.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

i think you made it to 1986 with your list...

i'd include a few things from the late 80's too...

"Suffer" Bad Religion

"Complete Discography" Operation Ivy

as well as

"Walk among Us" Misfits

"Midnight Shift at the Thrill factory" Mr. T. Expereince

"Vs" Mission of Burma

"Adolescents" Adolescents

"Mommy's Little Monster" Social Distortion

"Double Nickels on the Dime" Minutemen

"Big Lizard in My Backyard" Dead Milkmen

"Blank Generation" Richard Hell and the Voidoids

and tons of stuff from the 90's, with a special emphasis put on the bouncing souls...

Social Distortion

I've got to admit, that's the one band that sticks out in my collection. They may stick out, but I think they're great.

Mos Def - Black on Both Sides

DJ Sneak - Live on Radio One (2005)

Random Kemal / Konflict tunes

some other stuff I can't remember right now.

See, maybe you're more of a hipster than you thought.

Don't make me denounce them!

Naw, I'm no hipster until hair metal takes over the "what you listening to" stuff. I'm OK with some punkish stuff, but not the real hipster stuff that is beyond obscure to me....

Social Distortion is the one non-metal band that I enjoy. I saw them a few years back and they were great. I've been collecting their albums since then.

I feel like the kid at the party that everyone makes fun of in this thread. = ( Haha.

It's all in good fun. I hope my sarcasm doesn't come off as mean spirited.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Oh no, not at all, Gyp. = )

I just wanted to make a little quip in there. I really do love that this thread has been a pretty prevalent part of the off-topic forum over the past month or so, and that many different tastes are represented. It's certainly kept my eyes open to new music (from genres that I wouldn't even usually take a taste of, which is a nice change of pace).
