  1. You should be right without question, but I get the feeling Loe heads into ST at the 7th Inning Guy™. Whether lefties or righties coming up, Cam is Ron's man! I sure hope that lesson has been learned, but fear it hasn't.
  2. The struggle I have at this point is how to rally around these potential negatives and yet have real hope for another outstanding season coming up. The infield this season, all-around, should give equal or even better production compared to what the Brewers got last season. The pitching staff has both quality & depth of quality. Braun suspension or not, this is a damn good team. The best hitter in this generation, who'd played his entire 11-season career thus far with a (/an insufferably obnoxious) divisional rival, signed a 10-year deal with a team in the AL West. The same sanctimonious divisional rival lost their manager, the main & probably only reason said team was so said-ly sanctimonious. The Cubs are securely back into 'It's Next Year Every Year!' mode. EDIT: I still haven't gone to any spring training games...that's about six weeks away give or take? I'd love to go some year. It's amazing. Just a great atmosphere since there are so many facilities so close together. I actually had more fun at other teams' facilities, just since I didn't care about the games themselves if the Brewers weren't playing... just soaked up the atmosphere (& sun). ST-time is also the perfect time to escape late winter in WI & enjoy the low & mid-80s temps of Phoenix.
  3. Honestly the reason people "vented" about both players was that they sucked. People complained about them (rightfully so) before they even played a game with the Brewers; it wasn't like they weren't known sucky commodities coming in & they just became lightning rods. This season, the roster lacks a true crap player. The only painful thing is that it should've lacked a true crap player last season too, before Fielder left. I don't have anyone to complain about, but I'll guess 'that guy' winds up being Loe after RRR over- and mis-uses him again in '12.
  4. Right now I think there are two things holding up a Fielder signing -- the Rangers trying to sign Darvish, & Fielder asking for a contract too close to what Pujols got. I still think Prince will eclipse $150M in the deal he signs.
  5. There are lots of guys who "throw pretty hard" that don't make $1.2 million. Who would you like to see them bring in instead?
  6. I'm not a Boras backer, I'm just not someone who goes out of his way to hate him. Boras doesn't have anything to do with Oswalt still not having an offer. Reyes, Pujols & Wilson are really the only top guys to sign so far (not counting Darvish yet). Once Darvish signs, I think Oswalt & Jackson will be next.
  7. The total construction cost is estimated at $400M (details inset), with a specific number of $392M referenced within the entry itself. What other tax payer money are you referring to beyond the 0.1% sales tax?Roughly 75% isn't enough? I believe I remember another $50 million being tacked on there simply because the Brewers didn't have the funds or assets to insure....... or something to that effect - but that figure could be included in the $290 million you posted.Ok, then I'd hardly call that a screwjob.
  8. Or you can be right... "We never rejected any offer from Philadelphia at four years and $44 million. We advised Philadelphia that we would agree to such a proposal. And Philadelphia decided upon hearing that to go in a different direction." MLBTR fills in the gaps in this story, much to RockCo's delight. My crow is tasty.
  9. Here are some quips from Gammons last Sunday; earlier in the piece he noted the market overall had been very slow & "strange": I found it interesting that he'd point out tv revenue & then specifically Texas's. If Texas wanted to add Fielder, I think they could. Short term, it's a perfect fit for both parties. Probably safe enough to sign him into his 30s if he can DH. The note on the Nationals made it seem like Gammons doesn't see Prince to DC, though. He also seemed to infer that the Rangers could be in on him.
  10. From Wikipedia's Miller Park page: The total construction cost is estimated at $400M (details inset), with a specific number of $392M referenced within the entry itself. What other tax payer money are you referring to beyond the 0.1% sales tax?
  11. Here's what the rumor was at the time: "Montgomery" being team CEO David Montgomery You can speculate that Boras did something there, but you can just as easily speculate that a GM had a team executive go over his head on a signing... much like when Brian Cashman had a deal in place with Vlad Guerrero, only to be superseded by The Boss's signing of Gary Sheffield over dinner one night.
  12. The title of the article you linked says it all -- "Nationals unlikely to sign Prince at current price". Not that they're out, but that they're not going to come close to matching the deal Pujols got. So that could mean that they're very willing to go to like $175M or even $200M, just not up around $240-250M. This 'news' screams 'public negotiation tactic' to me. Obviously no one on the outside looking in ever knows for sure which teams are in or out, but who else could still be in on him? The field of potential suitors seems like some mix of: Washington, Toronto, Baltimore, Texas, & Miami. Not exactly an impressive list, but I don't think it's accurate to view Prince as out in the cold just yet.
  13. C Paul Phillips signed Text from MLBTR: The Brewers announced that they signed catcher Paul Phillips to a minor league deal that includes an invitation to MLB Spring Training. The 34-year-old has MLB experience with the White Sox, Royals and Rockies. He spent the 2011 season with the Indians' top affiliate, posting a .237./281/.305 line.
  14. Solid pickup, not much risk here & sounds like there could actually be some upside.
  15. Even 3/$25 would have been nothing to sneeze at. Now he is forced to risk everything on how he pitches this year. I really don't see how you can absolve Boras for blame in this situation This is similar to some of the heat TheCrew07 takes in Melvin discussions -- you can't possibly claim to know what deals were or weren't out there. The only team that signed a reliever to a long-term deal this offseason was the Phillies (Papelbon), after reports had leaked out that they'd agreed in principle on a deal with Madson. So for me it's the flip side of the coin, I don't see where you find fault with Boras (or Madson). I get that you take joy in Boras's 'pain', but going beyond that I don't see where he's to blame. f you take out the $15M or so he made in 2011, that leaves around 4 years / $85M, or around $21M per year. It will be interesting to see how the contract he gets compares to that. That's an interesting point, monty. Plus the Brewers were rumored to have made another offer to Prince this season, probably something similar to that 5/$100M offer. I still think he comfortably gets more than that.
  16. Oh, I'm so sorry, Menotti. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif May Cleo know as much comfort as possible for the rest of her life. Your perspective on this whole situation is admirable.
  17. F-Mart? Even for ESPN, I'm surprised at how bad that is.
  18. Very true on Thornburg. And I guess once again, human memory (or at least mine) shouldn't be trusted! Thank you for finding those notes.
  19. A button on the controller I bought with the Resistance/Res. 2 bundle was sticking, so I took the whole bundle & receipt back to Game Stop. I was expecting to have to trade the whole bundle back in, & just hope there was another controller/game(s) bundle, or have to settle for just getting a controller and like a $5 store credit. I dunno, call me a cynic. Well, they took one look at the faulty button & just swapped out the controller, no questions asked. Thank you, Game Stop, for being very cool. I was definitely prepared for the opposite, so it was very refreshing.
  20. I guess Roger Maris was juicing in 1961 also. His hair was falling out! Juicer! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. by all appearances Boras has failed tremendously this off-season. Who's 'getting wise' to this new-agent-on-the-scene Scott Boras? I guess my larger question is why do you care? And yes, Beane would be another. I'll include Cameron still as an editor's pick http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. Kid just walks right into AFL against top pitchers in baseball and tore them up. The AFL is a notorious hitters' league. And when Gennett starts 'tearing it up' above high-A ball, then I think people will show the love. But as someone who has seen him play in person several times, imo he's simply going to have to put on a lot of muscle to be a legit hitter at the big-league level (or maybe even just the higher levels of the minors). Beyond his physique/frame, his BB/K ratio has been terrible so far in the minors -- that's another indicator that a player's hit tool won't translate well at the higher levels. I count myself as a Gennett fan, but his defense & lack of size right now outweigh the free-swinging singles & doubles hitter when I think about his prospect status. I think he is a legit Top 5 Brewer and Top 80-100 in milb prospect. I don't know how you can say that, his defensive limitations take a huge cut out of his value. If he could handle SS at even an Eckstein-ian level, I'd be all about him. But he can't, and from what I've read about him, he's been about Eckstein-ian at second base, which isn't a good sign. He doesn't hit enough to overcome the defense, & you'd have to hit a ton to be in a top 100 prospect in the entire league with basically a negative on your defensive scouting report -- top 100 is a huge honor imo. But as we all know, rating guys who have proven nothing such Jungmann, Bradley, Lopez deserve all of the praise. Well each of those guys doesn't need to grow in a fashion that looks unlikely for their repsective frames, and have many other reasons for being highly regarded.
  23. Your hatred for Boras is a bit much. The contracts for relievers weren't out there (for the most part) this offseason, & Madson appears to have been screwed over by his own former team, basically the only team that felt comfortable inking a large contract for a RP. How Boras factors into that... I fail to see. You seem to have a list: Boras, Theo Epstein, Mike Cameron... maybe more... and when those names are mentioned, you post about how you hate them. I don't get it.
  24. you can at least make the argument that offering K-Rod arby and signing Ramirez so quickly were mistakes. No. You can't. Prince turned down the Brewers' contract offers & was dead set on free agency. This was set in stone the day he signed Scott Boras to be his agent.
  25. Or the Phillies decided to go with Papelbon, who signed a bigger deal than the one that was rumored to be agreed upon by Madson & the Phils.
