  1. mostly the fact that I've seen these guys 'admire' scores of home runs Hitters across the league admire HRs/2Bs every single day of play. The Brewers aren't worse offenders than any other team, they just tend to hit more HRs than most teams.
  2. I can't really take away from his accomplishments given that at least 75% of his competition (pitchers & hitters alike) were also PEDing it up.
  3. So your stance is that Hart plays solid to good defense in RF, and neither visual evidence nor statistical evidence should be allowed to factor into the process. Pardon me if I find this discussion tiring.
  4. What contender wants to give up a member of the rotation in July? Melvin didn't need anyone from a team's 25-man roster, no matter if he believed he did or not.
  5. Or, "... is missing from tonight's lineup, as was expected"
  6. I think you should read through the MiLB forum thread on Gamel
  7. #2 Young ace pitcher we get for Fielder [multi-year] (Melvin has said, he'll accept nothing less) I don't think this is going to happen at this point. It didn't happen mid-season this year, when the acquiring team would've been getting Prince for 1.5 seasons instead of just one.
  8. fwiw, I just don't see that he's this godawful defender. I think he's pretty bad in terms of getting reads off the bat & in general tracking flyballs. His speed is a nice asset, which helps him overcome a lack of strong instincts. Strong but relatively inaccurate arm. He's well below average imo, and enough so that I think it cuts into his overall value.
  9. Just wanted to say I was really happy with Macha lifting Gallardo last night after only 95 pitches. Hawkins, Hoffman, & Axford closed out the game with really efficient innings, so I doubt any of them are that gassed.
  10. Do you mean high-risk guys in FA (like Harden, etc.)? Otherwise Narveson is the most recent waiver wire SP addition.
  11. Lastly is there a physical explanation, in this case Corey's vision has arguably helped him keep the walks from being more selective and drive the ball more. I'd guess maybe an .840-.850 OPS next year. Has Hart taken to actually wearing the contacts? I thought he scrapped them in ST.
  12. From a business point of view, it would make a lot of sense for Rickie to choose Boras. He's nearing his first shot at free agency and any contract the Brewers would offer would probably be able to be met by several teams on the open market. I hope he doesn't choose Boras, but I could definitely see him doing so.
  13. I don't think it's a safe assumption that Braun is some HoF lock. FanGraphs ran an interesting look at him recently, pointing out a steady, almost linear, decline in his ISO since he debuted.
  14. Lon Babby's profile at his former firm, Williams & Connelly has already been taken down, but a PDF version (older version, too, I'd imagine) of the same page I just linked lists both Rickie & Jemile as clients of W&C. I'd have to guess they were both represented by Babby, but that's just an assumption.
  15. Lately, Pittsburgh has actually made some nice trades, including this trade deadline. Nothing major, but got rid of dead weight & brought in youth. I think Huntington has them headed in the right direction.
  16. It's supported by the fact that he gets poor reads on balls & generally doesn't play well in RF. Add in several seasons of poor UZR data, and it's pretty fair to say it's an accurate gauge. I think Gamel could probably also be a poor RF defender, so it will depend on who is a better option at 1B.
  17. both seemed to work fine... no one else was there so I can only say that when I posted a message it appeared normally.
  18. I agree that he could well have gotten more in arbitration this coming offseason, one reason I like the contract (as well as its short duration). On his power, though -- that's what his value has been all about this season. His AVG & OBP would definitely be lower if not for the 17.8% HR/FB rate, one way above his career norms. I think you're right that his power is a bit fluky, and the value of this contract will probably depend on how much he's able to keep his power from dropping.
  19. Actually, that's exactly what it means. 1B & C are the only positions where it's not pretty reliable.
  20. That would be a drastic improvment defensivley at 3B I'm not sure this can be said yet. There's no reason to necessarily expect Lawrie to handle 3B. I hope he can, though.
  21. Heck, Adam Dunn has played a better first base this season. I really think most of us have just gotten used to Prince's awful defense at 1B. It's actually going to be nice to upgrade defensively there once he moves on. 2009 looks like a complete outlier at this point.
  22. I really don't think they are going to move Corey to 1st. He's an All star in RF and he hasn't played 1st base since what AA? 6 or 7 years ago. Brewers would be dumb to do that. Hart has been an All-Star because of his bat. He's been a bad RF, and if UZR is any indication, he's gotten/getting worse. I would love to see him at 1B provided he keeps hitting. I think this is a decent extension though. Like Stevo noted, it's basically a two-year deal.
  23. I could see Hart moving to 1B. Depends on whether he's actually figured anything out at the plate, or if this season is a fluke, though. Going by UZR, Hart has been bad & getting worse in RF... bad enough the past three seasons that I hope the Brewers try Gamel in right to see if he can be an improvement.
  24. Yep, he has a below average bat this year, one of his best years, and is average at best with the glove. He's likely going to get $5-6m in arbitration next year. This is way too simplistic, though. His career road OPS is .869, which this season would be good for roughly a 130 OPS+ away from Dodger Stadium. Fielder's OPS+ this season as of today is 140. Loney might not be a 130 OPS+ true talent, but Dodger Stadium has killed his production thus far in his career (.725 home OPS).
