  1. I agree with TWR on Hart's profile as a CF. I think he could be below-average there, and his offense would probably be above-avg. for CF... but his bat is fine at RF, and his defense there actually seems to be a plus (if only a slight one). I think Cam will probably be back for another tour of duty in 2010, but if Cain is ready he gives the Brewers a lot of payroll flexibility. I'm really glad to see that his injury (though sucky) is basically a best-case scenario here.
  2. First, the steroid era IS over, they do enough random testing now its totally over and has been since 2004 MLB still doesn't have an effective test for HGH (at least, last I'd heard). And if the 'steroid era' were over, guys wouldn't still be testing positive.
  3. Isn't Liz Waters still an all-girl dorm? And congrats on the college plans coming together, T BONE. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. Fwiw, Uecker just announced (he's been a guest on the FSN Houston broadcast for the 4th inning) that he was just contacted about doing another Major League movie. "Harry Doyle lives" was his quote http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the service time only counts in that manner if he is added to the 25 man roster. If he is just on the 40 man roster, he only accumulates one day service time for a September call up when the roster expands. I'm pretty sure Gamel was NOT added to the 25 man roster last year. As best I can figure, the myth of September call-ups not accruing service time only comes from one thing -- time spent on the expanded, 40-man rosters does not count against a player's Rookie of the Year eligibility. Otherwise, a day in the bigs counts as a day in the bigs in terms of service time... September or any other month.
  6. Logan has to write no less than 1,000 words on Bill Hall being the living breathing demonstration of proper fundamentals on defense.
  7. Who is the longest tenured Marlin ever?... How long was he around? If you're referring to Jeff Conine, he played 8 seasons for the Fish.
  8. Hey Trenni, congrats on the promotion... seems like you're doing a great job. We miss you though! (but glad to see you doing Wisconsin proud) http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif If anything it speaks to the fact that the Brewers radio and TV producers have been very good at finding top tier talent. Totally agreed, Invader. I may be alone in this, but I actually like Telly Hughes so far (admittedly... small sample! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif). I think he's still adjusting to the gig, & once he does I think he's going to be a solid replacement.
  9. That's some encouraging stuff on Gamel, straw. However I wouldn't agree with Ramirez or Jones being some of the better fielding 3B... nitpicking. Although in re-reading that, you may have just meant 'overall', not 'defensively' Braun had a fielding percentage of .895 while fielding 2.215 balls per game. Wow. I'm going to go cry in the fetal position for a while & try to remind myself that this can't hurt me anymore.
  10. If you think a player has never refocused after being reamed out, then there isn't a conversation here Some players believe that changing/not changing their socks results in better performance. Baseball stats fluctuate all season long every season, walks are historically high in April & are up basically around the whole league. Macha yelling isn't going to do any more than Parra changing socks.
  11. Another issue with the New Yankee Stadium is that the place is apparently not as loud and intimdating as the previous Yankee Stadium. Maybe the fans are still busy walking around and looking at all the new stuff instead of focusing on the game, but the seating bowl is not as conducive to noise as compared to before The reason is actually pretty straightforward -- the old Yankee Stadium had the seating incline sloped much higher, & trapped noise better. The new park's seating doesn't incline at such a sharp angle, and allows more noise to escape
  12. This thread is hilarious. The Brewers have been absolutely dreadful so far this year, and people are making a point to give kudos to Macha, seemingly for one reason It's funny... it's almost like people are focused on strategy & not outcomes
  13. Bottom line, I think she's great at what she does. Agreed. And while she's certainly attractive, I think Trenni should be commended first & foremost for her excellent work. She's by far the most talented 'sideline reporter' I can ever remember the Brewers employing.
  14. Aura! Mystique! Cathederalyness! Derek Jeter being unable to make plays to his left! The ghost of George Costanza!
  15. One thing I know that's been bandied about lately is the possibility that the Yankee Stadium dimensions are actually shorter than what's posted. I have nothing in terms of backup here, so I'll have to ask Principessa where she heard this. Iirc she was talking about quotes from players.
  16. Again, as I mentioned to take with requiste grains of salt... I just recall a couple/few posters that seemed to demonstrate being reliable in terms of knowing a bit behind the scenes mentioning this about Hall. I don't personally have any agenda or any real problem with Hall. Sorry for dragging this down into a back & forth on his character. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif I agree he's been a trooper in terms of moving around on the diamond.
  17. I agree with you on the timing of the starts, Diskono. It was great to see Suppan get back on track. I liked that he delivered roughly what should be expected from him.
  18. I started this thread because I do believe we will be 6-12 after this tough road trip. This opening schedule has been & continues to be tough. Our door prize for taking the NYM series? 3 at the Phillies... great.
  19. I'm always suspicious of a manager just taking one for his struggling player & saying, 'He's been a battler through his injury'. Kendall's defense at C is clearly valuable, but is it more valuable than the upgrade Rivera could provide with the bat?
  20. Certainly, but it's all a trade-off (as I'm pretty sure you already know). Not one of those three prospects are really complete talents (though I should note that so few prospects are 'complete' in the way I mean... offense & defense). Since Esco has the defensive side completely locked down, the fact that he projects to possibly be an above-avg. offensive SS makes him a much more valuable prospect than either Gamel or Salome imho. If Gamel has to play at LF and/or 1B instead of 3B, obviously that cuts into his value quite a bit. With Salome, the concern as best I can tell isn't just that he may not stick at C -- which could certainly come to pass. The big concern then is where the heck else would he play if not at C? His offense wouldn't be all that great in LF (or even RF), and beyond that where could he really handle fielding? Too short for 1B, & he obviously can't handle MIF or CF. I guess I should also say that I'm not skeptical that his bat will eventually play fine at C, but I do recognize that those that are skeptical certainly have valid concerns.
  21. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I'm certainly a heckuva lot closer to that description than any of the posters I had in mind with my initial comment on inside access.
  22. If people like Danny McBride, aside from his roles in Tropic Thunder & Pineapple Express, be sure to check out The Foot Fist Way (also produced by Ferrell & Adam McKay). It's not what you'd expect per se... it's almost filmed at times like a mockumentary, though it's just a comedy/drama. Not drop-dead hilarious, but very well-acted & written. McBride is really, really good. Eastbound & Down sounds like something I'll really enjoy. Thanks for the tip. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. It means we got off to a crappy start and need to have a really good hot streak at some point to offset it. I think it's only responsible to take into account that this bad start has involved a ton of really close games & bad luck for the Brewers. It'd be one thing to me if the team had played poorly enough to warrant a 3-8 record, but imho this 3-8 has been pretty fluky. I don't know when, but I do know this team will go on a hot streak this season that will likely offset just how bad this stretch of 11 games has been... and chances are the hot streak would be at least every bit as fluky & luck-based as this one.
  24. I know you and TLB think it's hilarious to go around and accuse everybody of saying "OMG" but I can assure you, it's really not that funny I can admit to doing that... and hadn't realized I did it enough to carry it as a label. But what's really not funny to me is the same negative overreactions posted time & time again... often by the same people... sample size be damned. If the tradeoff for pointing out the absurdity of negative overreactions is to get called the OMG guy, I guess that's that. I took moofnelson's thread as simply a frustrated cry for some kind of positive juju, so I posted what I did... note that 'OMG' is nowhere to be found, and furthermore I think I took him very seriously. I didn't & don't think of his post in any negative light. Did it really deserve its own thread? Maybe not, but with no vent thread where is something like this supposed to go? I completely understand fans being frustrated at this point, and I think it's cool that moofnelson didn't just go off on some ignorant rant. He posted what was driving him crazy & asked for others to give him some positive thoughts. Honestly with all the crazy bad luck breaks the Crew has had so far, a thread like this should really bring out some constructive discussion at this point in the season.
  25. Angel Salome - This guy keeps producing even though most people count him out. To be fair, his offense isn't what people 'count him out' for. There's no doubt that he will be a strong offensive catcher... as long as he can stick there defensively.
