  1. I'd say the RBI total has more to do with the Rockies' .354 team OBP, best in the NL. The Crew managed only .329, good for 11th of 16. The average, though, as you mentioned, is impressive. Iirc, BA w/RISP is something that tends to fluctuate from year to year - and this would lead me to guess that BA w/RISP & 2 out would too.
  2. [looking away from the computer] I'd just like to state that I'm totally psyched to see this episode tonight when it's replayed in 45 min. Pacific Time. I missed it (stupidly) last night, and have avoided this thread once I saw the new ep was being discussed. I have a tendency to really enjoy episodes of SP that many think are lame. Not just to be "that guy", but this honestly seems to happen.
  3. Plus now the mountains on the bottle turn blue when it's cold! Which would really come in handy if you have extensive nerve damage to your hands, limiting your ability to feel temperatures. To borrow an awesome phrase from thebruce, that - ^ - is awesomeness. Although I do have to say that the exchange of - "See, it's blue - like your eyes!" [door slams] "My eyes are green!" gets me every time.
  4. I don't think anyone thinks that Melvin won't make a serious offer. He certainly will give it a good - likely his best - effort. The problem is that a serious offer from the Milwaukee market is humbled in comparison from a serious offer from a big market. The Brewers can only offer so much, and once you hit that point, the money could be better spent on several players, instead of one. True, the FA reliever corps is not impressive, but the money can be spent on the aquisition of a position player (through trade + contract extension, or FA, etc.), while relief help (odd combo of words) can come from a trade.
  5. well, you just said the same thing end did, after telling him his comment was 'what everyone says.' Endaround didn't say "Oh man, Cordero is gone - just like every other good player!" He mentioned what is likely to happen, and to his credit, did so early on in 2007. It is what it is - the best offer this team can afford is likely quite a bit less than what CoCo can make on the open market. DM isn't just saying this to appease the fans, but unfortunately the best the Crew can do isn't the best Cordero can do. Good lord I just hope he doesn't end up with ChC. That would suck.
  6. Thanks for the update(s), Bomber. Don't want to be the poop in the punchbowl, but I think it's important to remember these are all rumors. Remember how Manny was guaranteed gone last offseason? No! But they really meant it that time! The things I noticed that stood out - Jenks will not get a multi-year deal from the Crew. Unless you call two years "multi" (which technically it is) - but I'm sure there will be at least one other team to go at least to 3 years, and likely more AAV. Almost certain Adam Dunn winds up in SF? I smell a familiar agent tactic. There are so many other teams, especially in the AL, that would be interested. I'd imagine at least LAD would be able to afford Rodriguez, too - but just a guess. If they are supposed to be able to afford Andruw Jones, they can handle A-Rod. (EDIT: good call end, and the only one with which I disagree is NYM. Not because they couldn't afford it, but because of Wright/Reyes) My guess is that the 'no truth to the rumor of Santana's availability' is the Twins making sure they keep their asking price high. They can always wait for him to turn down whatever (less than he'll get as a FA) they offer, and then claim their hands were tied. Interesting stuff all in all, but - call me a conspiracy theorist - I see a lot of team & agent attempts at manipulation in there. Which is why the offseason is so much fun!
  7. Crazy, we can agree on at least one thing - But to whats bugging me: Am I the only one who can't stand listening to people eat like slobs? Chomping on chips, slurping soda, taking several enormous bites of a sandwich at once and then trying to talk! Maybe I'm neurotic, but it drives me nuts and I'm seriously considering not sitting by my friend at lunch anymore because of this. Amen. You're not neurotic at all. To mine - Sarah Silverman. The female equivalent of Dane Cook. Apparently being attractive now = / > being funny.
  8. The chances of him signing with the Brewers are less then 0%. So you're sayin' we've got a chance! Btw, mr. nitpick sez, "It's 'Torii'!"
  9. Mark Belling on baseball... couldn't be more disinterested - no offense, gypcasino. Spend $10 mil. on a manager? Not even in a huge market.
  10. I miss that Rich Dauer called his extreme l/r shifts the "Alien defense." That always made it seem cooler. Note proper alignment v. Adam Dunn - http://www.spiritualgenome.com/cropchakras2.jpg
  11. No, but he's a good-looking dude. Not too many stand-ups are handsome-looking guys. I honestly think that's it (as in, that's all). The man is not funny. OMG! DC totally contorts himself on stage - he iz 2 funE!
  12. I'm going to put the over-under on this baby's first sabermetric analysis of defensive positioning and zone ratings at 7 months. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif Congratulations, rluz. I'm really happy for you!
  13. Obviously, I agree with you on that one, kgb. It does sound more like there's no real reason... Yea, this is what I was getting at.
  14. This hot theory just in from where my brain is supposed to be located - ManagerSwap08... LaRussa to the Bronx, Torre back to his old stomping grounds in St. Louie...
  15. This one stinks. Not as in, 'Dude! I love Leyva, what a bummer!', but as in, this one stinks of something. Not quite sure what, but I'm wondering if it indeed has something to do with Nick questioning decisions made along the way this year. Unless there are other areas of his job responsibilities in which he stunk (which is entirely plausible), I don't see how he hurt the team. If it's just a reason to promote Kremblas, it'd seem the old "moving in a new direction" line would be far more applicable from Yost than, "not on the same wavelength." I do recall that he was in charge of guiding the bunting, although I can't recall if he was just working with the pitchers (I recall him specifically mentioning he was in charge of the pitchers' bunting work), or if it was everyone. If the reason for his dismissal is as trivial as that, I think someone needs to remind Yost that bunting with guys who hit 25+ HR is a really poor idea. I still lean toward my conspiracy theory of having the replacement in-house, but who really knows. EDIT: (from the article) "Nick did a nice job for us in a couple of areas, but we're not going to comment on it too much," Melvin said. Yea, why disclose rationale on a questionable decision? http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/eyes.gif "I felt like I did my job." We did too, Nick. Best of luck to Leyva, who will "seek a position in another organization."
  16. I'm guessing you've already 'done it,' but there's usually nothing wrong with the Pabst Mansion in Milwaukee. I remember it scared the crap outta me as a kid, but perhaps it wouldn't pass muster now.
  17. Wow, what are the criteria used in such a decision? Was Leyva also the OF coach? Or was that Sedar. Honestly, isn't the fact that we didn't really notice Nick this season a sign that he did a solid job? I don't understand, aside from the 'we're rewarding Kremblas' notion. Conspiracy theory alert - Kremblas to become a part of the ML staff as a part of the 'short leash' policy?
  18. as I said earlier the difference between Cordero and Aquino is only going to matter 5 to 10 percent of the time. I'm sorry, I can't get on-board with this one in particular. And in general, look at it this way - if you were playing russian roulette with hypothetical 100-chambered guns, and you were offered the choice between a gun that had 25 bullets in it, or 30? Heck, how about the choice between one and two? This is what grates the 'Nay' crowd. Just because a choice is only slightly better does not negate the advantage it provides.
  19. Scrubs. Seriously, it's just not that good. Or funny.
  20. The point that's being made, WCB, is that the defense is the reason for our pitching woes. Our pitching was quite good in major areas this year - in terms of ranks in the NL. And the offense was, obviously, too. The major area in which the team needs to improve is on defense. Even just average defensive work this season, and the Crew would in all likelihood still be playing.
  21. I'm confused about your referencing of that link, Gopher. It's an article about HRs & FIP, not FIP related to ground-ball pitchers. A quick stat search at THT shows what I would have guessed - that guys with high GB% have both high-ish and low-ish FIPs. In fact, descending the FIPs of qualified (as in, IP) pitchers shows that those who have the higher FIPs tend to have the lower GB%. I'm honestly confused as to what your point was in that post, not trying to 'call you out.'
  22. We draft ahead of the Cubs next year. And of course we get to revel in the Cubs' folding like a stick of chewing gum in the NLDS (lookin' at you, Stephen Colbert!) with quotes like this one from Mark DeRosa: "It's so demoralizing right now. Offensively, we couldn't put anything together and put pressure on them." Yea, if only the Cubs'd had a situation like bases loaded, 3-1 count on the batter...I do realize he was likely referring to the entire series, but it's still fun to laugh. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/laugh.gif
  23. While Mench doesn't provide much OBP, he delivers 'professional' results against LHP. As long as he isn't due too much in arbitration, I'd go with bkbc's platoon idea with Gross, and be able to use Dillon as a sort of super-sub (Inf, OF, wherever he can play) and an additional part of the RH-side of the LF platoon.
  24. ryne100, your avatar just about made me spit out my water. awesome. And while he may not have his best fastball anymore, it doesn't look as though he's ready to be spoon fed his oatmeal. This made me giggle, too.
  25. Thank you for that, SF. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/happy.gif
